Murder Is Bad - Tumblr Posts

The thing that annoys me so much about Twitter freaking out over the "murder is bad" tweet is that this kind of attitude actively hurts activist causes.

Literally all this kind of nitpicking over tone does is make people less likely to talk about serious issues because they're too afraid that they'll do it wrong, or they just straight up can't because it would ruin their brand or come off as inauthentic to suddenly get all solemn. AND on top of that, seriousness is NOT always the best approach. Humour, including dark humour, absolutely has its uses. People are more likely to act on something that made them laugh than something that made them feel depressed.

(Wow, depression enables apathy? Who would have though /s)

So yes, I'd be willing to bet that a slightly humorous tweet WILL actually get more signatures on a petition than a solemn one.

(I mean I'm not the biggest fan of petitions as activism but that's besides the point here.)

Also ffs, who can honestly say they've never dealt with heavy issues through humour? It's such a natural reaction and it helps ease the tension. We NEED that. You get burned out SO QUICKLY if you don't get any kind of emotional release. Your brain starts associating activism and politics with pain and stress, until you can't take it anymore. It's just not mentally sustainable.
