Lately, Riku has found himself seeing you in a different light, as if a veil had been lifted, revealing a radiance he hadn't noticed before. Those eyes he once met so casually, has he truly missed the sparks that dance within them every time you laugh, every time you feel most at ease? They seem to shimmer like starlight on a clear night, making his heart skip a beat with every glance.
He steals another glance at you from across the room, the soft glow of the television casting shadows that highlight your features in a way that makes his heart ache. Your skin, he wonders, has it always been this soft, like the finest silk that one could only dream of touching? The thought of holding your hands in his own sends a shiver down his spine—a desire so fierce that he longs to intertwine his fingers with yours and never let go.
And then, out of nowhere, the words tumble out of his mouth, playful yet laced with a longing he’s barely come to terms with himself. “Wanna sneak out and kiss?” he quietly cackles at your shocked expression, his laughter almost too loud as it draws a few curious glances from his friends lounging on the couch. Luckily, the two of you are tucked away in the armchair, far enough that no one can overhear his mischievous suggestion. Riku's satisfied grin spreads across his face, finally having captured your attention after his earlier attempts left him pouting in frustration.
A squeal escapes him when you retaliate by pinching his arm—a well-deserved punishment for daring to ask such a thing from his best friend of nine years.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry! Please stop," he pleads, squirming in the cramped space of the armchair. Despite his protests, he makes no move to distance himself from you, his laughter mingling with yours as you both draw more complaints from the others trying to watch the movie. Finally, you relent, pausing your assault when the protests from the room become too loud to ignore. Riku groans dramatically, letting his head fall onto your shoulder in mock defeat, but his hand finds yours, fingers intertwining before he suddenly pulls you to your feet.
"Ow, where are you taking me?" you ask, stumbling slightly as he drags you away, a mix of confusion and curiosity bubbling inside you.
Riku doesn’t answer, instead leading you through the dim hallway, away from the group’s lively chatter. The quiet is almost disorienting, amplifying the sound of your footsteps and the rapid beating of your heart. Every step Riku takes is purposeful, yet filled with a hint of nervous excitement that mirrors your own.
Your hair—yesterday, when he playfully ruffled it, did it always feel so impossibly soft, like strands of spun gold slipping through his fingers? He had meant to tease, but the sensation lingered, leaving him yearning to run his hands through it again, this time with a tenderness that he could hardly explain. And now, even as he leads you away from the others, that memory is fresh in his mind, and he wonders if this is truly just another joke or something more.
Finally, he stops in front of the bathroom, shoving you inside and closing the door behind him. He spins around to face you, holding a finger to his lips with a playful gleam in his eyes. You're left standing there, puzzled and a bit breathless, waiting for whatever comes next.
Without a word, Riku steps closer, his movements deliberate and slow, making your heart race with each step. Instinctively, you back away, but he keeps advancing, closing the distance until your back is pressed firmly against the wooden door. Your breath catches in your throat as his face inches closer, the air between you thick with anticipation.
"I need to show you something," he whispers, his voice low and teasing, before taking a step back, giving you a momentary reprieve. But before you can even exhale the breath you’ve been holding, he closes the space between you again, his proximity sending your thoughts into a whirl.
Your lips—has he truly never noticed how irresistibly kissable they are? They draw him in like a siren's song, making it impossible to look away. It’s only now, in this stolen moment away from prying eyes, that you realize just how much you want this to happen. All the playful banter, the lingering touches, the shared secrets—it’s all been leading to this. Your heart beats wildly in your chest as you meet his gaze, knowing that whatever happens next, there’s no turning back.
With each passing day, Riku began to let go of the reservations that held him back, and so did you. The line that once separated friendship from something deeper started to blur, melting away like frost under the morning sun. Slowly, almost imperceptibly, what you had became something more, something precious that blossomed between you like a flower finally reaching towards the light.
What once was hidden in the corners of your hearts began to unfold, and the relationship between you two started to grow, blooming into something beautiful and undeniable.
