Does the Dragons they choose have some significance to them?
In Dragons Rising, we see Nya choosing a Lightning Dragon to ride, and Kai choosing an Earth Dragon to ride.
Nya choosing Jiro as her main dragon to ride has some symbolism to it. Jiro is a lightning dragon. Her significant other is Jay, who is the elemental master of lightning. So Nya choosing a dragon whose powers matches her significant other is a cute and subtle symbolism to her relationship with Jay, and shows that he’s still in her thoughts.
Kai however, chooses an earth Dragon. Which corresponds to Cole’s element. It’s reading off that Kai still thinks of Cole while they were separated. If we got Nya riding the lightning dragon which corresponds to her Significant other’s element. What does mean if Kai were to choose a dragon that corresponds to Cole’s element? The show could be hinting that there’s more going on between the two.
I mean, we see Cole ride a Fire Dragon in Virtues of Spinjitzu, and now we got Kai riding a Fire Dragon in Dragons Rising. The series literally gave us a Lava parallel with them riding a dragon that corresponds to each other’s element.

Lava Paralleling canon couples in Ninjago
Crystalized Rescue scene
In Crystalized we see a little rescue arc between Jaya, Pixane, and Lava. Where Jay rescues Nya, Pixal rescues Zane, and Kai rescuing Cole. Jaya and Pixane are canon couples and Lava gets a rescue sequences just like they do.
Lava parallel Jaya
I feel like these two scenes don’t get talked about enough. In these two scenes we see Jay protecting Nya and Kai protecting Cole. These two scenes look shot for shot. With Cole and Nya on the right injured and Kai and Jay on the left using their powers trying to protect them against the villains. Also small detail, the injured characters on the right have black hair, and the characters on the left who are trying to protect them have brown hair. The parallel in this one is strong.
Jaya parallel Lava
This is one instance where a canon ship parallel a non-canon ship. The first time we see this dance move was done by Kai and Cole in season 1, and we see Jaya doing this dance move again 12 seasons later.
There was also this scene where they run up and hug each other. For Kai and Cole it happened in season 1, while for Jay and Nya it was in season 12. Like it just looks so similar.
Lava parallel Ray and Maya
Both Ray and Kai have that iconic wink. It’s a very noticeable trait of them. Like father like son. It’s a very nice detail that the animators have between Ray and Kai. Making them parallel each other because they’re both father and son. However, it seems like they only wink at their beloved ones. Ray winks at Maya, his wife, the love of his life. Who does Kai wink at? He winks at Cole. Kind of implying that Cole is Kai’s beloved.
Why I believe this is because we actually see Skylor wink at Kai several times, but we don’t really see him do the same for her. Like this is the girl that he is head over heels for, and he doesn’t wink at her, but he winks at Cole. Which is a weird thing that the animators didn’t include for him and Skylor if they’re already detail oriented on the father-son parallels
Pixane parallels Lava
This wasn’t really in the show, but in Shadow of Ronin. In the game, Kai and Cole hug and die this pose. Later in the series we see Pixane do the same pose for a photograph. Shadow of Ronin happened first, meaning that Pixane was technically paralleling Lava in the photograph
The Dragon parallel
In Dragons Rising, Nya rides a lighting dragon, and Kai rides an Earth Dragon. Nya just happens to pick a dragon with same element that corresponds to Jay, her Significant other. So what does it imply if Kai picked an Earth Dragon to ride? Is the show subtly hinting that Cole is Kai’s significant other?
That’s all I can think of so far. Hope I can find more.

Man, can we talk about how Jay and Nya love each other so much that she was able to IMMEDIATELY tell that what she was seeing wasn't real
Like, Arin believed his parents hated him, Lloyd thought Wu was disappointed and chose wrong making him leader and Sora was dragged back to Imperium, and they all thought it was real, but Nya took one look at Jay not remembering her and was like "nah, my man loves me this shit ain't real"
