you’re painfully aware that all the tossing and turning you’re doing is getting you nowhere. but no matter what position you try, the fact remains — you can’t sleep.

jun, on the other hand, is resting peacefully on the other side of the bed.

so when the clock hits 3:23 in the morning, you give up; all the shifting under the sheets is getting you nowhere, and you really don’t want to wake jun up. so you slide carefully out of the bed and pad to the kitchen, squinting against the bright light.

it’s just as you’ve given up on the kitchen and are making yourself comfortable in the living room that your boyfriend appears in the doorway, rubbing his eyes sleepily. it takes him all of a few seconds to spot you on the couch and wrap himself around you, mumbling tiredly into your ear. “you left me.”

you lean your head against him. “i’m sorry. did i wake you when i got up?”

jun shakes his head from where he’s nuzzled into your neck. “no. the bed was cold without you.” he tightens his arms around your waist for emphasis, before questioning you sleepily. “what’s wrong? can’t sleep?”

“yeah,” you confess, turning so you can burrow into his chest and feel his heartbeat steady against your cheek. “i just feel… off. don’t know why.”

jun kisses your temple now, smoothing your hair. “that’s okay,” he murmurs. “i’ll hold you.”

“here? on the couch?”

“here. there. wherever you want.” he tucks you closer to him. “just close your eyes, okay?”

and maybe his warmth is all it takes to lull you into sleep. and maybe he really does intend on carrying you back to bed — but maybe he ends up falling asleep too, and maybe the two of you wake up entangled on the sofa the next morning. maybe.
