This isn't specifically romantic (not that I would be against that interpretation) I just think Eiko would passionately claim to hate his guts with everything she has and then turn around and do this kind of stuff. I guess they're not really friends at this point but she can't say "my new unlawful ally" either so ASSOCIATE it is.
