A friend suggested the idea of a greentext horror story from the perspective of Fiddleford McGucket, and well i made it. Sorry that it’s a bit long.

>be me
>have a wife, kid, and work my own tech shop from my garage
>get call from by old college friend I had a crush on
>he wants me to join him in a backwater town to help build an inter-dimensional portal for science
>travel across the country to help him
>he’s already discovered various paranormal creatures that live in the area
>a “muse” that he can only meet in his dreams is helping with the portal
>my crush on him returns
>it’s already xmas
>give him a snow-globe and hand made gloves
>visit home
>forgot to get my wife a gift
>she’s not happy
>forced to return sooner than anticipated
>have to save my friend from literal crampus the day I get back
>he is acting weird every now and then
>tells me he’s letting the other-dimensional muse have free control of his body
>something is wrong with this
>his muse, “Bill”, and the portal becomes all he talks about
>the tapestries won’t stop staring at me
>start losing sleep
>tried telling my friend this might be a bad idea
>the research is more important
>after many months the portal is ready to be tested
>things go horribly wrong
>almost get pulled through
>I saw the other side
>it’s worse than anything ever possibly imagined
>“Bill” is not what it seems
>get pulled back to safety
>try to warn of what will happen if the portal is ever opened again
>quit on the spot
>the guilt consumes me
>it is always watching
>can’t sleep at night
>want to forget
>only thing I can do is make myself forget
>invent “memory gun” to erase specific memories
>use test it on myself
>I feel so free
>create a group to help others forget their bad memories
>nothing in this town is normal
>it’s terrifying
>it’s everywhere
>use the memory gun to forget
>start forgetting some words
>there’s something in the lake
>hair keeps falling out
>when did my beard get so long?
>I can’t see myself in the mirror
>that couldn’t be me
>I don’t look like that
>I don’t…
>I don’t remember anymore
