Been reading some Kelly Barnhill, and honestly? Not a fan. I just don’t like her writing thus far. It’s just not for me; it feels juvenile—transitional, and I can’t quite get past that. That said, I can blatantly ignore it given the aesthetic and themes found in her books are perfect for me. The characters, and settings, and ideas… Everything else is so wonderful, that I feel bad for not enjoying the writing style. The thing I most adore about her writing is the way she writes climaxes. With Kelly Barnhill, there is no tension, only dread, and that’s everything to me.
