My theory on the reason why Percy acts the way he does is because he’s just a dickhead. Throughout the entire movie, he never shows an ounce of kindness. Not to anyone or anything. He literally stops on a mouse that he knows is keeping one of the prisoners happy. And on top of that, Paul told him several times that their job is talking, not yelling. Their job is to keep the prisoners calm before they’re executed. Percy never did that. Percy literally out of spite keeps a dry sponge on Eduard Delacroix’s head, call him a f*g*t, tells him that Mouseville isn’t real, just overall treats him like shit for no reason.
So yes, I think the way that the guards treated him was justified. You play stupid games, you win, stupid prizes. You piss enough people off, they’re going to say or do something.
That’s just my take though. You don’t have to believe me, but that’s just what I think.

do y’all think Percy did actually feel that way? Maybe because he was the youngest guard and had to compete with guards who were more experienced he felt intimidated, so acted out like “look at me, I’m so tough” to try and fit in?
ok and edit…I remember hearing a theory was Percy was closeted lgbt, and maybe this could of been part of it, I’m jot gay nor am I a guy so I can’t really comment, but maybe overcomoensating to seem like “one of the guys was part of it? But I’m just citing a theory that he was lgbt, Idk myself, their isn’t really a lot of evidence apart from him majorly projecting with the del thing.
Yeah, he whimpers and cries, but he also beats the shit out of people for no fucking reason. He’s a pitiful man.

I recently re-watched The Green Mile and instantly started to ship Percy Wetmore and William Wharton (Wild Bill). But there are no fanfics of this pair...? The ship does exist, as I have seen quite a few people mention that they ship it as well. Not in a romantic sense. The 'love-hate' kind of way. Where only sexual tension is there in the "relationship". I have come across one fanfic of the pair so far. ONE. A very good one despite the explicit sexual content. If anyone here has free time on their hands, why not make some fanfiction? This is not a very popular ship, after all.
