[I’m not sure if it’s a blessing or a curse that I’m reading this on a cloudy day]

So, we’ve reached part two of the climax for this series and my heart still hurts.

To be honest, I’m not sure exactly where to start off with this because this chapter was just so dark and angsty. I think between this one and the last, this part felt more heavy and emotional, and all of the angst was more prominent here, at least for me.

One thing that I really want to address is the string of confusion and heartache that ran all the way through this part. It was like little pieces of sticky tape filed with different events grappling on and on until the end, where you realize that deep down, the main character has always known what she’s wanted and how she’s felt about Finn and Jimin. About how to handle loving someone but not being in love possibly (hopefully I'm not reading this the wrong way) and acknowledging that she is holding different types of love in her heart. I wouldn’t necessarily call what her feelings are for Jimin “love” quite yet, but possibly infatuation and admiration? All the things you feel with a crush and everything is just sort of weighing heavy in your heart. I mean, she did admit that the complement that she received from Miss Vern didn’t feel as impactful as one that did whenever it came from Jimin.

Speaking of which, when it came to the dance scene and you lean its theme, it honestly made me go "oof" and cringe a little. That was a bit too on the nose and I was clenching my teeth because it didn’t know how it would go for them. But, I can honestly say that that scene was the most vividly pictured and emotionally felt scene I’ve ever come across. My heart was racing as the dance steps were first introduced and carried on, so full of tension and anger yet love that's bubbling at the bottom of everything. It was beautiful and moving and so, so passionate, and I actually teared up a little here because of how overwhelmed I was. And the applause that came afterward was well deserved, but it was bittersweet knowing that part of the emotion was due to all of the external events around them and that their life is too still carrying on. And it showed after the fact once the praise settled and you realize that the main character and Jimin and just everyone else involved in this situation is still hurting.

The phone call that the main character made to her mom was something that was needed, and it also made me realize just how much had happened over this entire series. I just think that it’s amazing how one event can change something forever. Like, if she hadn't gotten into dance school, would she still be with Finn? Would she eventually get a crush on Jimin? But most importantly, would she feel as confident in her capabilities as she is now, both in dance and being emotionally cognizant? Maybe all of this was a good thing. Maybe not. Hopefully good though, but of course, only you know the outcome for now.

This chapter also gave me time to think more and reflect on the last chapter especially. Even though my words are still true, I feel a bit more open, kinder, and understanding of the main character’s situation. Everyone makes mistakes, but each one allows you to grow and you see how far she has matured not only through this, but throughout the entirety of the series. I think that her arc is the most meaningful to me because of this. She’s flawed, but she notes them and learns through them and doesn’t let them hold her back. I’m proud of the young woman that she’s become, and I feel grateful to know that this isn’t the end of her growth period. I’m not sure how the final two chapters are going to go, but I’m excited nonetheless.

I just wanna hug her and tell her, as the great Hanna Montana once sang “Everybody makes mistakes, everybody has those days” (I’m laughing at this harder than I should be, but it’s only to help drown out the pain that I’m feeling), but honestly, this chapter was needed and I loved how you executed it. Thank you for making me feel these things, Shanna. It’s been a while since I’ve been so moved by a piece writing, and it’s a wonderful welcoming. I know that this part will be something that I remeber for a while. Thank you again! I can’t wait to see what’s next. Sending you all of my love💕

P.S.- Also, I saw that there’s this new Netflix show called ‘Tiny Pretty Things’ that’s coming out about ballet dancers and I feel like ever since RTB has come out, I’ve been seeing sooo many things about ballet😂

“Smile. We’re supposed to be happy.”

Writing reviews never get easier because I’m always stumbling on how to start these off, but hi Rain! It was only a few days ago when I was watching Alice In Borderland (a show that is so, so good and one that I highly recommend) with the thought that I could binge the entire eight episodes in a night. But then you messaged me, and all thoughts of that went away because I would let the sky fall out of my grasp if you needed me. And you send me the preview of the first scene of this story. Thank you for letting me have the chance to get a sneak peek of this, though the Kharli back then wouldn't have ever known how much this story would truly make her feel, and for that, I’m so grateful that you had me in mind.

First, I loved the atmosphere of this story. It’s Christmas but with a little more glitz and glamour, and it felt so luxurious to just be surrounded by the world that you created. Jimin and the main character were also really interesting. They had their moments where they bickered and bantered, but I feel like there was a mutual respect deep down for each other that you see as the story went further along. For example, during the conversation with Nikita and Natacha, it was almost like Jimin was protecting her when they were talking about money and working. And vice versa when the main character swapped dinner dishes with Jimin because she remembered that he didn’t like seafood. That felt intimate even though they’re trying to work around the barriers of their relationship, but if you bring Jungkook into the picture, you see that there is a fine line between the two men and how she views them: one with logic and the other with emotion. But, what’s nice is that you see her view of them begin to swap as it nears the end and that was really beautiful to notice.

Also, can I say that the text messages that Jungkook sent pain to my heart. You write angst so well. The moments right after Jungkook went into that room were so poignant and moving. You could tell how much Jungkook wanted her back, and how her walls were beginning to come down around him during their talk.

And afterward, when Jimin said this:

“I’m sorry,” he murmurs as he pulls you in close, the first strings of a tango hitting the air.

“What for?”

“For putting that look on your face.”

Ooof!!

Did my heart break a little more at the ‘Still With You’ piece? Yes. Yes it did.

And did my heart completely shatter at this:

“But what really made up my mind is what you wrote for your intro page on the firm website. That separations and divorces aren’t failures, they’re beginnings. Proof that believed in something and tried to find happiness at least once.”

A million and one times. Wait...now make that a million and two. This actually felt like a note to my younger self. A me who was caught in the middle of separating parents and had no one to turn to. I wish that she could have read this part because I think she would have been a bit more comforted and at ease.

I can say that the ending filled and soothed the crevices of my heart and pulled the pieces back together. Thank you for this Rain, and thank you for getting me to sniffle a little. It felt nice to have these emotions pulled out of me. Thank you so much again! I'll love you and your stories until forever, and if there's something else after that, until then too💕

“Smile. We’re supposed to be happy.”

Your husband’s voice is carefully light, a brief exhale as his lips brush the outer shell of your ear. Warmth spreads from where his palm holds the side of your waist, the fabric of your sheath dress an obviously inadequate barrier against him as you climb the elaborate stairs leading into the mansion, into the noise.

“I’m trying,” you snap back, though the attitude you want to give him is a challenge when your mouth is deliberately curved up to look genuine. Every step you take seems to further exasperate the nerves that have been buzzing in your chest and stomach since well before you arrived here for the party. The damn nerves that have been prickling at you ever since you learned a few days ago of a certain name being on the guest list for tonight.

[On the 23rd day of Christmas Shanna gave to me….tears. And heartache. But with a sprinkle of well-needed relief😊]

Hi Shanna,

First, I would like to tell you thank you for making this series. I think that before this, you were on a hiatus and were working on other things, but I’m so sincerely thankful that you wrote this story and shared it with us. It’s been a pleasure reading this every week and coming into your messages to scream and laugh and cry along the way, so thank you.

I honestly thought that the last part would be the last time my eyes got a little misty, but it’s okay. I never mind crying if you’re the one who’s making me do it (for good reasons...sort of...kinda. It’s a bit weird in this context, but anyway), I was able to relate a lot to the main character in this part. It felt like she was done with Finn before even talking to him, and even though it stings to admit, in my opinion, I just think that she knew that on the other side would be happiness, and that is what she was striving for. The feeling of being free from hurt and pain, and I don’t think it’s wrong to want that. Especially after everything they went through. And when I realized that Finn cheated, I was actually surprised! At least a little bit. A part of me had a feeling he was/would after he was the library scene last chapter and when he called her Maddie, but I didn’t want to make false accusations. And I’m lowkey hurt! But also, yay for Yoongi. I know that I said that he played a part in everything that went down last part, but I'm glad that it was for the better (a part of me should have expected it because you sometimes add a little twist in your stories where something is not what it seems, for example ‘Exes and Superher-o’s’ at least somewhere, but I caught it too late😂) I’m glad though that he was trying to tell her without telling her, you know?

While reading this part, I was actually really glad that you presented characters, especially a main character, who are flawed because it gives us a chance to not immediately sit and point fingers. Especially in this situation where they both cheated (though one was completely worse than the other. They're the same situation but different responses), but I feel like I would be called a hypocrite if I didn’t take in everything. But still, screw Finn.

Also, have I told you that I LOVE Noelle? Because I do. She's honestly the best friend anyone could have and I’m happy that the main character confided in her. She gives such honest and genuine answers that feel so simple and obvious when she speaks (And can Noelle also yell at me to block/delete convos with people😂?)

And Sabrina! I knew I felt for her for a reason at the beginning. My heart aches for her because I understand how it feels to think that you only have yourself to rely on, and I feel sorry that she was put in that position by her mother. I hope that her and the main character can be friends one day, or at least somewhat close to it, and that her and Eamon can get back together.

The ending is what really got me in the feels. She finally confessed to Jimin, but I’m glad that she’s taking time to heal and become herself again before getting into another relationship. She deserves the world and I hope that if/when the day comes where she comes back to Jimin (I cried when Jimin told her that btw), that she’s happy. Jimin cares for her and he showed so much sincerity and gentleness when she began to tear up (I was too when Jimin said that he hated seeing her sad), so I just wish them the best.

Thank you so much Shanna for this. I don’t think my heart is ready for the epilogue, but I can’t wait to read it. Now I’m going to play ‘thank u, next’ on my way out. Sending you lots of love!!!💕

[Happy tears😭]

It’s been such an amazing journey to read about all of these characters. From seeing their growth, the highs and the lows, everything wrapped up so beautifully! Thank you so much for writing this series, Shanna. I enjoyed this chapter and everything so much! And might I add that the pictures included here were such a nice touch?!? And when the main character’s mom said to not follow anyone else’s timeline?!? Yep, definitely bookmarking that. I’m glad that Jimin and the mc’s plan fell through because we probably wouldn’t have gotten such a humane and relaxed ending (well...except for the obvious of course. I kept pausing the entire time because I was screaming in my head lol)

Anyways, thank you again for this series, Shanna. I’m going to miss it, but I’m incredibly happy with the ending. Sending you love forever and ever.

“It is my right and duty to seek the Luna alongside all of you.” His round little jaw clenched stubbornly. “I’m not afraid.”

Aaaahhhh!! Viiiii!

I squealed when I saw that you updated this story. I remember binging it not too long ago and all of the feelings it brought me then, but binging it also made me realize that everything in my memories got jumbled up, so I reread it, and it is still SO GOOOOODDD!!! You’ve done such a fantastic job with this series, and everything flows so nicely. I can tell how much thought you’ve put into this story, not only here in the main plot, but I’ve seen all of the asks where you’ve given us more detail to the characters and the story and wow….The world you’ve built so complex but oh so beautiful. I love it so much!

Okay, okay. Now that that’s over…

The more I read about the dynamics between Jimin and the main character, the more I see that they were literally destined to be together. The flashback you wrote proved that even more, and it was so heartfelt to know how bonded they are. Even as little kids. But of course, out of the safety for the Luna’s companion, she had to sacrifice what she knew to be true to make sure that Jimin was okay. That moment broke my heart a little, but it was for the best, so it softened the wound just a tad.

And I would like to say that I love Seokjin. He’s such an enticing character. He’s witty, charming, and clever. And even though I know what Seokjin did to the foreign clan was terrifying, it was awfully amusing too. To win a fight without lifting a finger is a powerful move, but I was clapping for him in my mind.

The ending gave me chills while reading the Luna’s words. I love that she is so confident in not only herself but Jimin, and it’s a pivotal moment where you know that Jimin is more powerful that what we have currently seen so far, so I can’t wait for that moment to come. I’ll be bringing my snacks for that part.😌

Thank you so much Vi for this story. It lifts me up whenever I’m not in the best mood, or even if I am in a good mood, it makes the atmosphere surrounding me so much brighter. I can’t wait to read what happens next. Especially the female Alpha, Azira Kai. She seems interesting and I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing yet. Anyways, sending you my love💕

———◐———

Fifteen Years Ago…

———◐———

“It can’t be-”

“Run for the elders! Quickly!

“Red smoke rises from the Luna’s hearth!”

The red smoke was invented by the first wolf known to mate a witch. Legend has it that their bond lent him some of her magic and with it he created a mystical powder that unleashed bloody plumes like knife slashes in the clouds.

It was a distress call.

A wolf in danger or in need could throw the powder (usually into their fireplace) and the red smoke would rise - drawing others to their aid.

No fire was needed and the strange shimmering clouds it produced could even be seen on a moonless night.

“What happened? Where is the Luna?”

The chief elder was still out of breath, having charged over from his chambers to find Isa in hysterics.

“She’s gone! Something scared her! It triggered a half-shift!”

His eyes widened in fear and alarm.

“She’s too young to half-shift. The energy it would take-”

Isa broke into sobs again.

The girl was only five years old. She and her wolf were too volatile to merge safely. The wolf would be frightened - it would run.

Eventually the child might regain control, but she would have no way of knowing where she was or how she got there…

And she would be weak. The effects of the shift were too much for a pup that age.

The chief elder felt true terror grip his heart.

“Call for the alphas - immediately!”

image

Although they were technically one of the oldest bloodlines in the village, Park Clan had only five families to its name - all betas.

Except for one.

Park Jimin was the first alpha ever born to the Parks and as such he became the head of his family on the day of his birth - officially the youngest clan leader in history.

When the call for alphas spread through the village, nine year-old Jimin was roused from his bed to serve on behalf of his people.

Clan alphas were required to report, regardless of their age.

“I don’t have to tell any of you what is at stake. Our pack has been entrusted with the Luna’s bloodline. Her safety is our sacred commission.”

The woods were no place for a child. If fluctuating temperatures and possible starvation weren’t bad enough, there were wild bears, packless ferals, rogue witches, snakes, and worst of all-

Unblessed wolves—animals without a human heart. They were by far the most pressing danger to the little girl.

“Surely young Park can remain at home for this,” Jeon Jinseok pressed. The boy was barely older than his grandson, Jungkook, and he was reluctant to endanger another pup needlessly.

Some quiet murmurs of assent could be heard around the elder’s chambers, however the chief elder himself shook his head sadly.

“I understand your concern… but the law is the law. Every clan alpha is sworn to such a task. He took an oath after his first transformation-”

“He was seven-”

“An oath is still an oath.”

All eyes turned to the gentle voice in the corner. The Park alpha looked impossibly small and soft.

But his gaze burned with determination.

“It is my right and duty to seek the Luna alongside all of you.” His round little jaw clenched stubbornly. “I’m not afraid.”

Shanna!! Hi!!!

This morning, I actually woke up with the urge to read another story of yours, and I didn't want to ignore it because it’s been a while since I’ve read something of yours, and I wanted to send you some love. Now, it's not Halloween, but it is spooky season (i.e., finals), but I think it was a bit ironic that I chose this fic of yours to read when there are like five others that are sitting and waiting to be read. But, I think that it’s because this is the story that made each week last year a bit more bearable, especially during school. Now, I'm here reading it right as I'm slowly climbing up the ladder to the pinnacle of the semester where everything is starting to get a bit more stressful, so I’m really happy that I had the chance to sit down and read this earlier this morning.

Reading chapter 8 from Jimin's perspective was a bit nostalgic for me tbh, and very enjoyable. I don't exactly remember if Jimin's thoughts toward the main character were shown before this moment, but being able to get inside of his head and learn exactly where his feelings lied and the intensity of them was really nice to read. The moment where he was in the car with her, and he offered his shirt, and then he was like, “He didn’t have anything to give you, even if he wished he did.” made my heart sort of go...🥺. Why’d you have to put that in there, Shanna?!?! My feelings got hurt before I even had breakfast.

But it’s okay though, because afterward, you realize that he wanted her and wants to build a relationship with her….And then...you broke my heart again when you wrote how it would be worth it if Jimin made her happy even if she was with someone else by the end of the night. (Shanna, I want to hug you, but also cry because that HURT!!!) And then at the end, there was that scene which made my mind go sjdjskkskakak, so overall, it was just a lot of back and forth with my emotions and me going, “Shanna, you genius brain!”

Anyways, thank you so much Shanna! I always enjoy every story that you put out. I hope that you’ve been doing well. And I’ll be cheering you on during NaNoWriMo!🥳💕

He might never see your face or hear your name, but Jimin knew he would remember the taste of you for the rest of his life. It was hot and bright like liquid sunshine— a pure relentless light flowing through him where there was once only darkness.

Vi, oh wow is it good to write to you like this again.

I remember the day I saw that you uploaded this part. I was swarmed with work and was trying to weigh my options of whether I should read this immediately or not. Sadly, my moral compass swooped in, so I ended up waiting until it was the perfect time for me to actually sit down and read this (which was last night tbh), but I am very thankful that I did because WOW.

One thing that I love about your writing and storytelling is that it’s so easy to immerse yourself into the story. No matter the situation, how long it’s been since you’ve read the story, or even if you’ve never read the story before and you were gifted with the presence of this fantastic plot, the visuals that you create, and the story that you tell is so enticing. I find myself never wanting to leave the presence of these characters, and if I had the chance, I would allow my mind to just stay there and observe like some alternate version of Inception. It’s comforting, even though it’s dark, but the characters all have a story that is waiting to be unraveled and throughout the process, you learn so much about the wolves’ culture and traditions.

The story about the moon goddess and the Festival of the Lover’s Moon was so well thought out and interesting (as well as incredibly sexy. I can see why wolves look forward to this day). Reading the interaction between Yoongi and Yoonli (as well as knowing that a particular Alpha didn’t join the festivities that day...it makes me wonder if a part of him knew that they were mated then even if he didn’t know, you know?), as well as Taehyung and Yoonji (I love her omg) was too good. The scenes were so picturesque and clear in my mind, and I enjoyed reading their parts. Of course, the scene that touched me the most was between the Luna and Jimin. It was a little funny how even though the Luna was trying to make amends and share her peace with him, her wolf was like “please rail me, omg😭”. It was a cute moment though, an honest and sensual moment as well, so when the next scene came and Seokjin was talking about how kisses didn’t mean anything, I knew that deep down, it did for these characters (also sidenote, but I hope that Seokjin, and Yoongi too, have a chance to find their mates. It was also funny seeing how protective Seokjin is over the Luna and how he would push him into the swamp. I chucked at that hehe)

When it came to the climax of this part, when Jimin, Yoongi and Taehyung went to search for and found the Luna, I couldn’t break away from the screen. It was so intense and invigorating- it’s insane the way you wrote the action in that omg!!! AND THEN THE LAST LINEJKDJKKNAKNKN!!!

Ah, thank you so much, Vi. It’s always such a pleasure to read your stories and write to you like this. I’m sending you all of my love💕and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

——◐——

Two Years Ago

——◐——

Centuries ago the moon goddess stumbled across her human soulmate while he was sleeping. Struck by his beauty, but reluctant to reveal her identity, the goddess began to visit him in his dreams where she could hide her true form and appear before him as a mortal woman.

In the world of dreams their love flourished and from that blessed union the packs were born…

The wolf nations celebrated this sacred romance every ten years during the Festival of the Lover’s Moon…

The day of the festival was spent eating and drinking and dancing at large parties, but when the sun went down… well—

That’s when things got really interesting.

On the night of Lover’s Moon the young unmated wolves of the pack were permitted to commemorate this legendary love story in a decidedly scandalous manner.

The unmated men assumed the role of the goddess’s sleeping lover—they were blindfolded (to represent slumber) and led into a large sectioned off area of the dark forest to ‘wait and dream.’

Unmated she-wolves over the age of maturity (eighteen) took herbal scent suppressors and ventured out into that very same forest in order to anonymously ‘visit’ the young men ‘in their dreams’…

The rules for what exactly that meant were pretty fast and loose which was why Min Yoongi was thanking the goddess and every other deity he could think of that Yunli was still seventeen.

“But I will be eighteen in two days! Please can’t I just—“

“No. Absolutely not under any circumstances ever.”

“But Yoonji is going!”

“Ji-ah is nearly nineteen and has never been interested in any of the snotty little man-pups of our pack.” He snorted. “She’s probably going out just so she can shove a bunch of them in the lake.”

“I wouldn’t count on it,” Yunli mumbled irritably.

Kim Taehyung yawned idly and snuggled into the cozy little pallet he prepared at the base of his favorite tree. The blindfold he and all the other unmated ‘lovers’  wore was made from witchcloth and could not be removed while the sun was down—so he had snuck into the forest earlier to set everything up.

Now all he had to do was wait until—

Min Yoonji grinned as she sheathed her wicked looking dagger and slid languidly into his arms.

“You don’t like nice girls, Kim Taehyung.”

“I like you,” he whispered breathlessly against her lips. “Nice or not—it doesn’t matter to me…” His hands slid greedily over her soft curves—pulling her closer till he felt the beat of her heart against his own. “I’ll like anything as long as it’s you.”

Jimin huffed as he struggled to find a comfortable position against the giant boulder he’d chosen as his perch.

Why did I let Taehyung talk me into this?

He could be at home—in bed—comfortably sleeping off the all-day feast he’d indulged in.

Instead he was out in the middle of the forest sitting blindfolded on a rock in the off chance that one of the she-wolves was out looking for him.

Not bloody likely.

Not when prime targets like Namjoon, Hoseok, Jungkook—and countless others—were scattered throughout the woods.

“Park Jimin?”
