schoolboy crush - pablo gavi
a/n: short, sweet gavi fic! this was a request by @shiffpring i’ve been really sick the past days so updates are slow pairing: pablo gavi x reader warning: language - bit angsty at first, fluff in the end wordcount: 1000 summary: gavi and y/n have been dating for a short while. due to the happening after the match, y/n thinks something is wrong.

You were cheering your loudest, your boyfriend had just won his first match after the World Cup! Feeling so proud, he even made a goal. You loved seeing the look of pure happiness, mixed with a bit of confusion on Gavi’s face. You were smiling so much it hurt your cheeks. This match felt extra special, you were wearing his jersey.
A couple of minutes later, you went downstairs, making your way to him. After a while of searching and surpassing security, you found him. He was celebrating with his teammates, just done showering.
His face immediately lit up when he saw you. “Y/N, hi! You’re here! You stayed! Did I play well? Did you see my goal? And the pass I made just before the break? And-“
He all of sudden stopped his many questions and blushed hard. Gavi distanced himself from you and his body language changed completely. His expression was now different, more awkward, and uncomfortable. When you shot him a questioning look, he looked away.
“You did great! It was such a fun match!”
When you tried to hug him, he didn’t really hug you back. Sure, he has his arms around you, but only lightly. Not giving you the tight, comforting hugs he gives, in any other situation.
“Thank you,” he said, not making any eye contact with you. “I’ll see you later, I’ll stop by your house, okay?”
You nodded and he walks away with his team. Why was he being so distant? You did nothing wrong, right? You, a natural overthinker, were utterly distressed. You already thought the worst-case scenario was going to happen; him wanting to break up with you.
Later in your room, you couldn’t stop thinking about today. Going over everything that went down, you can’t think of anything you did wrong.
You were just getting ready for bed when you heard the doorbell ring. Your mother opened the door and welcomed Gavi. They had a short conversation, your mom congratulated him on his win and he asked her how she has been.
While he was coming upstairs, your heart rate increased. You were almost sweating, that’s how nervous you were. The knock on your door announced that he had arrived.
“Y/N, can you open the door?” he said with a slight crack in his voice. “Por favor?”
You knew you had no other choice than to face the consequences. You opened the door and he stood there, with flowers in his hand. The bouquet consisted of yellow and orange tulips. They are absolutely stunning.
“Uh, these are for you,” he said blushing, handing them to you. You mutter a thank you and move out of the door frame so he could enter your room.
You cleared your throat. “So, uh, I had a question about earlier today. Sorry if I sound insecure or maybe too pushy-“
“Y/N, it’s okay.”
“What exactly happened after the match?” You asked, afraid to know the answer or his reaction.
“Oh,” was all he managed to bring out. Gavi tries to talk, but all that comes out is gibberish to you. He clears his throat. “I’m sorry, I just got excited. I shouldn’t have done that. Mierda, debería haberlo guardado para mí (shit, I should’ve kept that for myself).”
“Is that what you think I’m upset about?” He finally looked into your eyes, his facial expressions scream confusion and you had probably the same look on your face.
“You aren’t?” he asked, half suspicious and half relieved.
“No dummy, I love hearing you so excited. It was just weird seeing you so distant from me after that.”
“I’m sorry I just thought I messed up by rambling. It’s just that I still don’t know how to act around you. You make me feel so nervous and bring me so much happiness. You make me feel like I’m a little schoolboy with a crush again. I’m sorry I really do love you-“
He stopped with his apology when he realized what he said. You let out a slight gasp.
“Mierda! Sorry again-“
You shake your head. “Baby, you don’t have to apologize for everything. I love you too.” And the look on his face after was priceless. The way his slightly pouting mouth changed into the biggest smile you’ve ever seen. He then grabbed you around your waist and spun you around, muttering I love you multiple times.
“I love you too, Pablo Martín Páez Gavira. And don’t you dare to hold back with whatever you’re saying with me!” You stated, with a fake stern tone in your voice.
He laughed. “You don’t know how happy you make me, Y/N.” Your heart felt so full of love for this boy. You only recently started dating, but he’s already one of the most important people in your life. You live for his cute flirting attempts and the way he gets so worked up on the field. No matter how much of a hothead he was on the field, to you he was just the sweetest thing ever.
“I hope just as happy as you make me,’ you said, pressing a kiss on his cheek. “Let me put those flowers in a vase, join me in bed after?”
He gave you a nod and told you he would get changed in your bathroom. When he was going to the drawer in your closet that was his, you replaced the flowers on your nightstand. The flowers he picked were amazing.
A while later, you’re both in bed cozying up. He has his arms wrapped around your frame and you rest on his chest. His steady heartbeat brought a feeling of comfort.
You let out a content breath, finally relaxed after a day of worrying. You should’ve known better for thinking the worst, you told yourself. You knew you could always count on Gavi.
“Goodnight, mi amor,” he whispered and kissed your head.
You yawned. “Sleep well, handsome.”
“Te amo,” you heard.
But before you could respond, you were already asleep. He smiled hearing your light snoring. Gavi pulled you closer and he drifted off to sleep not much later.
