another thing i love about psych? the sheer amount of times they remixed their own theme song to fit the theme of an episode
can i just say that the friendship between shawn spencer & burton guster means absolutely everything to me. these characters are genuinely just the bestest of friends. theyre pals. buddies even. they are everything that i aspire to be and have. they have their ups and downs but like seriously they are awesome for each other and its so refreshing to see.
I like to believe that Gus is a full blown 300 IQ genius because then there'd be a rational explanation to his character conveniently spurting the relevant hyper-specific fact of the moment and he befriended Shawn because game recognises game, Shawn was the only one who could challenge him. Gus is tidy genius and Shawn is chaotic genius.

The reason Psych is the Important Show of All Time is because it said "friendship is the MOST important thing." Like, yes, the romances were good but the show spends even more time emphasizing and developing the friendships and that's why it rocks. Lassiter and Juliet love and support each other unconditionally without even the slightest whiff of romance and it is SO. REFRESHING. When Juliet almost dies, Lassie sacrifices his favorite gun to save her without any hesitation. He's the one there to hold her while she cries. She's his confidant. She leaves everything she knows behind so he can chase his dream of being chief without reprocussion. That's a deep, wholesome kind of platonic love. They also never had Shawn be jealous of how close Jules and Lassie are - instead, in the final episode, we see Shawn thanking Lassie for loving and supporting Juliet. We simply don't do that jealousy crap here. Lassie and Jules are best friends and that's an excellent thing. And then there's Shawn and Gus. Those characters are narratively and physically inseperable. The show makes it VERY clear that, without the other, neither one is complete. They balance each other and exacerbate each other's hijinks at the same time. They're closer than close and everyone around them just accepts it. It's just the way those two dumb boys are and no one is going to try to get between that. And then, of course, SO many friendships develop over the course of the show. Lassie and Shawn form a begrudging friendship eventually. Juliet and Karen end up bonding more than I think either expected. Friendship is the beating heart of this series and it's presented in a way that is unique and fun and I just don't see a lot of other shows that do it like Psych did.
Can we talk about how the #1 thing Gus wanted Shawn to know before Yin (almost) killed him is that he didn't blame him? can we talk about that? Gus literally came to terms with the fact that he wasn't making it out and INSTANTLY made sure that Shawn wouldn't blame himself.
psych is such a relief compared to other fandoms. we all know shawn is bisexual and has the potential to be in love with all 3 of his best friends but like i never see any active hate about it. like more than one ship? polycule. don’t like any of them? they’re all still besties. it’s just such a calm feeling to scroll through the psych tag and just see them all being silly. i love it here
I really love that the fics about Shawn and Gus tend to be sweet and tender. Shawn letting the mask down for Gus, being vulnerable together, the very definition of soulmates.
And it's like that in canon too, except they are like this 90% of the time
Gus's primary love language is frustration <3
My fave thing about Psych will always be Karen Vick very clearly knowing Shawn is full of shit but thinking it‘s funny especially cause it pisses so many people off
