About Adar in 2x07
The hardest thing for me is knowing that he was damned either way.
It's easy to criticize him for risking the uruks to get to Sauron, but he's really at a point where he can't win. He tells Glûg he loves the uruks too much to let Sauron enslave them. And that's the thing. He was Sauron's slave for far longer than they could imagine. He knows what it's like. And I truly believe he thinks death is preferable. But:
If he had stayed in Mordor, eventually Sauron would return and kill some uruks and enslave the rest.
If he had surrendered to Elrond, maybe the elves would show some mercy, but it's doubtful the alliance would last. And Sauron would still be there. Could they have gotten him if they had let Gil-galad and his troops through to the city? Maybe. But probably not.
And we know what happens in this war and LOTR. Whether he succeeds in capturing Sauron or not, Adar won't kill him. Sauron will kill, torture, and enslave Uruks.
Had he taken the Uruks and fled to who knows where, Sauron woulf eventually find them.
Possibly Adar could have killed Sauron when he had him as Halbrand. We know Sauron's not invincible. But it's equally possible that the moment Sauron realized this would happen, he would start using the powers we see him use in Eregion.
