I remember things were slowly getting better, two steps forward one step back but always moving forward.
I live in a conservative area so I'm speaking from own experience.
We had pride parade that went through our town. We had family friendly events during the day. Yes drag is considered misogynistic but there was something nice about taking my younger siblings to get their faces painted (rainbows and butterflies stuff like that) by drag queens, then we'd go do art at the art gallery and then get food from a local restaurants food truck. They had fundraisers for LGBTQ youth shelters, and talks about how we are all one community. Even some progressive non denomination Christian churches were there in support. We had musical performances. It was so fun.
Sure at night the bars got wild but those were adult only events.
But then I had to stop taking my siblings because the kink people started coming out during the day. Men in latex dog masks and doms walking around with people on leashes. Weird shit.
And when you brought it up you were met with bullshit about how important sex is to the community and we shouldn't "shame" people.
The following year less people went.
Then there was the infighting about identity and why were white cis voices the head of everything. This pride we will focus on pronouns and non binary identity. Trans people of color and then trans people should lead the march because that's "how pride started". No police at the events (which is like I understand police are not the ally but large events by law need to have a police presence).
No more rainbow washing, corporations just want our spaces to advertise. ( Who is going to pay for all this? And while it is valid ,we do live in a capitalist society so we need companies to be outloud that " yes your money is good here, yes you can get loans here." As opposed to before where there was legal discrimination against LGBTQ people at these institutions).
I had already removed myself from those communities by the time I heard that pride was being cancelled by it's own community.
It never came back how it used to. No parade. Maybe some events in the town square and bars would have pride events. Even after the pandemic, nothing really has come back.
I wonder what all the protesters did because their job was done for them.
And I guess that's why I'll always be bitter and angry about this because it's all regressive.
And before I start rambling I really do think the way things are going will back fire.
We went from "we are just like you we are apart of your wider community" to all this weird stuff and othering of people in their own community.
It also really hides the huge number of OF girls who are being pimped out. An OF pimp will rent a house with multiple rooms and then have girls "working" out of there. OF pimps will have girls "working" for them while outsourcing the communication portion of the models (like texting the subscribers and shit like that) to call centres that are ran like sweat shops in other countries like the Philippines.
I'm pretty sure Andrew Tate had courses on how to turn your girlfriends into OF models.
So even in the OF world of "sex work" the ones who do it because "they love it" are not a huge number.
Women who do OF will see you criticize prostitution and say, “I’m a sex worker and I enjoy it!” as if their voice matters in a conversation about PROSTITUTION.
No, your ‘work’ in OF is not the same ‘work’ as a prostitute. And it’s really disheartening to see OF women/cam girls/etc so willing to throw prostitutes under the bus if it means THEY get to keep doing their online porn business. That’s why I hate the phrase ‘sex work’ to cover OF women, cam girls, prostitutes, sugar babies, etc. because then it started giving ‘sex workers’ in (arguably) more privileged positions the ability to talk over ‘sex workers’ in underprivileged positions.
Because what right does a cam girl have to talk over a stripper, who has to be touched and groped daily by pornsick men?
What right does an OF girl have to talk over a prostitute who is raped and beaten daily?
And now we can’t have conversations about prostitutes because those who have never been in prostitution but still do “sex work” will think their voice has any impact when no, we SHOULDN’T listen to them. Because they’re trying to speak from the position of a prostitute (by defending it and using their label as a ‘sex worker’ to equate themselves to prostitutes) when they aren’t prostitutes.
And that’s not to say that other forms of “”sex work”” aren’t traumatizing and exploitative; they all are. But it is different. And using your label as a ‘sex worker’ who rarely if ever interacts with her clients in-person to defend the right of a man to ‘buy’ and rape and abuse women, which prostitutes experience daily, is abhorrent.
Because they are not the ones who will actually be in the position of a prostitute, having to be assaulted by men to survive. But when they leverage their ‘sex worker’ label, they’re getting others to ignore the prostitute’s voice and prioritize theirs in a conversation that isn’t about them.
I’m just so sick of it.
What is with this strange change in Tumblr users being anti-social on a social media platform? Like, hear me out! I've had multiple people respond to a comment of mine and then delete it before I could see it. I've seen posts of people telling people to fuck off or die on fun posts that have nothing to do with opposing beliefs. On simple and fun, whimsical post. And people are apologizing for others not "respecting their boundaries" on a public form of entertainment. I've been on Tumblr since I was a child, and I've never seen this before. Yall need to touch grass for real.
I knew for a fact that no terfs or radfems were going to say anything. There know there in the wrong. I'm so confident of it that I'm willing to make a bet with one if they can prove me wrong about being trans and being in sports or such.
I love how the fandom in the midst of all this is all "stupid terfs" , "David showed them". "It's okay not to believe the victims because a TERF wrote the article. "
Meanwhile their precious Neil who use to shit on JKR for not supporting "trans women" is being outed as a rapist and all they can do is comfort each other "you're not a bad person for still liking his works. It's okay not to support the victims. This is such a difficult time for the fandom. You don't have to say anything." Making it all about themselves.
So... the allegedly terrible terrible terfs are the one advocating for the victims and supporting them while the ones supporting your community is a rapist and the second is calling women little whinging fuckers for not wanting a man in a woman only space.
And the best part, all of you who don't really care about "cis" women's rights or safety and more concerned about reassuring men in dresses they are women and so they should have access to little girls and vunerable women....
Now you realise how you ended up supporting a rapist? Oh there isn't enough proof for that right? and still your biggest concern will be shouting at everyone "trans women are women" because it's always men's validation over women's safety for you isn't it?
