Been getting more into Silkali lately
Maybe I'm alone on this one (though Idgaf lol), but the way I see them is that they're highschool sweethearts. They're this couple that dated in highschool but then went their separate ways, not bc they fought nor bc they weren't "right" for each other, but bc they had different goals and paths in life
Like I'm genuinely team Kalim-abandons-his-title and I would love for fanfic writers to explore this idea more, but it's not just the fact that we don't know how Kalim actually feels about it. He seems complacent imo, like the possibility of just leaving hasn't crossed his mind, not to mention abandoning his status as heir of the Asim would most likely mean never seeing his family again. Which would be hard on Kalim since his family is everything he has, he loves his siblings a lot considering that he makes an effort to remember all their names even if he lost count of how many they are. It would be a very risky decision, one he could make since he's impulsive to a default, but is a decision with big consequences he won't be able to go back on
On the other hand, I think Silver would talk him out of it. Silver would probably feel guilty at the prospect of Kalim having to leave his family just so Silver can be with his own family. The guilt will drown him and make him miserable even if Kalim constantly reassures him that "it's okay" and "I'm happy here with you", Silver can see the longing in Kalim's eyes. In Briar Valley, Kalim would be away from his family. He can't contact his siblings, he can't wish them happy birthday, and he can't go to the funeral (either of one of his parents or a sibling that got attempted against) he had to learn about through the news... Kalim would probably repress all this negative feelings to focus on the positive ones, but Silver won't be able to take it and would blame himself for it all
And it's not like Silver would go with Kalim to Scalding Sands. I don't think he'll ever leave Lilia and Malleus' side willingly and Kalim wouldn't force him
So yeah, they remain like those friends that used to date on highschool that separated amicably. They invite each other to each other's important events, they catch up weekly, they're one of the first people to be called when something good happens to the other. They wish each other love, health and a good life...
