Saddle Up!
A personal opinion post.

My positives:
The songs are all incredibly well mixed for their time, I didn’t ever feel like one instrument was competing with another for volume or that the vocals were too loud or too quiet.
I know that “a UnIqUe SoUnD” is a bit of a cop out but I genuinely mean it as a compliment. All the songs on Saddle Up! are individually unique and even if you don’t know the name of a song, you still know it’s different from the last song and the next one.
The vocal control displayed is absolutely insane. I don’t know who in particular sings majority of the time (sources credit everyone for vocals +) but he has one hell of a set of lungs in him. People will say “oh screaming and yelling is easy,” but there’s a very particular method and sound to the singing in Saddle Up! that I have to commend them for.
The instrumentals are pretty damn solid too, I always find myself able to take each instrument in at once without feeling too drawn to one sound or the other, which is a really difficult balance to achieve.
My negatives:
While the control behind vocals is impressive, the produced sound is not very good. I know noise/nonsense music is a real thing and that people enjoy it, but it’s really not for me. SKA (T) in particular is a good example of this issue for me, it is complete and utter nonsense and I feel less like I’m listening to a song and more like listening to someone have a horrific drug trip.
The out of place sounds and voices in certain songs are just that- out of place. It’s like they were trying incredibly hard to produce a recognizable sound and possibly even image and it resulted in doing whatever they thought possible to stand out. It most certainly works, but success does not equal quality.
Besides the actual sound of the vocals being nonsense, half the time I can’t even decipher what words are being said because of how they’re spoken. It’s important to note that at least most of the songs are in English, and while I give them a small leg up because that’s not their first language, I find it hard to justify just how incoherent the words are.
Hyper-specific complaint but why the fuck does the singer like, moan and shit during a few songs? Priest In Love is the best example, I feel like we didn’t need to hear whoever it is nut into the fucking mic.
CONCLUSION:
I did not like Saddle Up! In my honest opinion, it is such Dogshit that I feel confident in the imagination that listening to it is equal to that of getting a lobotomy. I don’t know for certain if First Arsch ever actually released anything else, but I want to say that is isn’t definitively bad.
Not to mention the simple fact that this is my individual opinion, and if you think different that’s fine. You are 100% allowed to enjoy what you enjoy and think and believe what you want to think and believe. I am only posting this because I thought some of you might find it a bit interesting.
