Go watch Strange World by Disney. I watched it this morning and I originally came to the conclusion it was mediocre but right now, at the very end of the day I've thought over it and I think I loved it a lot more than I thought.
The film was amazing. The spectacular animation was perfect. Didn't expect anything less. Disney films have never really delved into father and son relationships and I found it really cool and interesting. To be honest I was a bit in the middle that it was a Disney film doing generational trauma again but if the audiences watch it they watch it. Characters were amazing (mostly). And omg I adored the LGBTQ plottline it was adorable!! Ethan's such a sweetheart. Also did I mention Searcher is kind of a dilf? No? Well now you know
I guess my annoyances with this film come with the fact I'm a massive Disney fan and didn't hear about the existence of Strange World. I heard it a year ago and had used some concept art in an essay for college, but then when it eventually came out recently it was a surprise. I would have loved to see it in the cinemas but ended up watching it on Disney+ because it was out by that time. I guess another annoying thing about the film is how the concept of Strange World actually works, and I would have loved it so much better if everything else worked, however the movie was being held up by plot clichés etc. Also the grandpa didn't deserve what he got at the end in my opinion. He didn't do anything to get that reward in the end. He came back 25 years too late without a sorry and then when he had the chance to apologise, just left again. He only went back because its a kid movie but eh.
All and all the film was awesomely mediocre. I rated a 3.5 stars on my letterboxd account but will most likely watch it again and up it because of my revelation

One thing I love Strange World is that there's no "villain" in a sense. Like Encanto, and Turning Red, it's just about families working through their problems with a little danger and spectacle thrown in as a little bonus.
The thing about not wanting to be like your parents only to unknowingly turn out just like them is actually crazy and I love how they did it in the film. Showing that it isn't too late for you to be better is a really cool concept to play with.
