Exactly!
I’m always somewhat skeptical when I hear an animated movie having a celebrity cast since you’re never really going to know what you will get out of their performance, especially if they haven’t really been voice acting before. It could range from amazing to awful.
How characters are written and animated also have an effect on how the audience will like a character. There have been actors (not just voice actors) who turned out to be really good when they’re given a chance to work on a different show with different writers and such. There have also been actors who in their role you like their character but probably don’t care much for the performance of the actor and is mainly supported by what the writers and crew and do to help prop him up. I could go on some more with other different scenarios but I hope you understand what I mean.
Everything looks and sounds amazing so far! Also with what little we have heard from the actual dialogue from the main cast, I’m hoping that later on we will be shown how their performances are an amazing addition to the movie and not something we’d have to at the very least begrudgingly accept. I know there has been a lot of controversy around Chris Pratt’s casting as Mario, and given how long the movie has been in production and how long ago Pratt was announced as Mario, I think it’s too late to change the role of Mario to another actor, but you never know. I believe we have come to begrudgingly accept all this and hoped a little for at least a stellar first impression for the main lead.
Keeping in Chris Pratt’s performances in other animated roles which I enjoyed, I felt that the role of Mario, if he truly wishes to perform as him and the crew believes he is a suitable fit for him, demands more than what Pratt has done from he previous animated roles. The Mario voices I’ve heard in the dubbed trailers for different languages for the most have had a better impression on the audience on their takes for Mario in the movie (a lot of them do sound really good!)
While I’m judging based on the actors’ previous works I’m familiar with, we still haven’t really heard from Charlie Day on his take on Luigi, which whom I’m assuming will have the same accent as Mario in this movie.
And we still haven’t heard how Princess Peach with sound like. I’m afraid it’s going to be another “popular actress sounds very similar to herself while playing the girl character in the movie and doesn’t really get into character” role that I’ve seen in other movies. I know others are afraid for Mario in this movie turning out this way too with Chris Pratt.
For the other actors, I hope Toad and Bowser will continue sounding as amazing as they did in this trailer and I hope not to be disappointed, especially since we only heard a couple of lines from them.
From what I’ve heard from Mario in this movie, I’m really hoping that that is going to be the worst he will sound and that he will sound a whole lot better later on, because his first line wasn’t bad and I kind of liked it, and his second line in the trailer does sound like he’s going for a Brooklyn accent, so maybe he and Luigi will be the Italian American plumbers from Brooklyn (or as I’m guessing in this movie, New Donk City), following from what I’ve heard was their original origin story. While the little we hear of Mario unfortunately didn’t leave as grand of an impression as say the little of Bowser’s dialogue we heard in the trailer, initially hearing Mario speak in the trailer, I didn’t think it was bad! I actually kind of liked it but I am hoping for more, which hopefully will be delivered in the final version of the movie. While understanding Mario and Luigi’s characters, I need to hear more from all of the main cast before I form a more solid opinion on their voices.
I’m hoping the Mario Brothers’ voices and the other unheard character voices won’t be subpar or laughable or leaving us with yearning for more. I’m hoping the voices won’t turn out to be worst part of the movie, especially for Mario, he needs to sound amazing or at least impress even casual viewers like myself enough to actually think his take on the character is (really) good, not leave everyone feeling “yeah, whatever, fine, it’s passable, let’s get on with this.”
I really want this movie to turn out well, it looks amazing! So I’m trying to stay optimistic (despite hearing how some of the other dubs have handled their casting choices, I wish I could also watch those movies and understand what they’re saying) and hoping for the best. Right now everything looks amazing aside from the maybe less than ideal cast. It was probably not their best first foot forward. Hopefully that will change soon. I’m really hoping I will get to really liking all the other cast members’ voices soon!
If you’re angry about Chris Pratt replacing Charles Martinet.
But not angry about Anya Taylor-Joy replacing Jen Taylor and Samantha Kelly.
And not angry about Jack Black replacing Kenneth W. James.
And not angry about Keegan-Michael Key replacing Samantha Kelly.
Don’t pretend it has anything to do with the original voice actors not getting hired for the movie. Just be honest and say it’s because you don’t like Chris Pratt. You’re allowed to not like certain actors.
And sure, there are things to not like about Pratt.

#Mira-Marathon | Nintendo
Why did I write Nintendo instead of Mario for example? I think someday I will look at something else on Nintendo, but Nintendo has not only Mario!
Cartoon Name: Super Mario Bros.: The Movie (2023); Production studios: Universal Pictures, Nintendo, Illumination Entertainment; Director by: Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, Pierre Leduc, Fabien Polack; Screenwriters: Matthew Fogel; Starring: Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Seth Rogen, Jack Black; Genres: Adventure, Comedy, Family; Running Time: 1 hours, 32 minutes;
"Super Mario Bros.: The Movie" is an interesting and exciting 2023 animated film based on the video game series. It is not the best movie, but it has an exciting plot, faithful characters and bright visual effects.
My rating: 7/10

THE LION KING (Dir: Jon Favreau, 2019).

Disney’s reboot binge continues with yet another high tech adaptation of an animated classic, this time renaissance era blockbuster The Lion King (Roger Allers & Rob Minkoff, 1994).
As I am certain you are aware, The Lion King tells the story of young lion and future king Simba (voiced by Donald Glover). Simba's father Mufasa (a returning James Earl Jones) is killed by his brother and Simba's uncle Scar (Chiwetel Ejiofor). Scar leads Simba to believe he is responsible for Mufasa's death and goes into hiding. Believing Simba has been killed by hyenas, Scar takes his place as king of the Pride Lands. However, Simba is rescued by comic relief duo meerkat Timon (Billy Eichner) and warthog Pumbaa (Seth Rogen). When Simba's hideout is discovered by cub-hood pal Nala (Beyoncé) she tells him of his uncle's despotic machinations. The two lions, with Timon and Pumbaa in tow, return to fight Scar and reclaim the crown.

My reaction to seeing the Mario Movie Trailer 2…I FRIGGIN LOVE ALL OF IT! THE CHARACTERS! THE WORLDS, THE MUSIC, THE HUMOR, THE ACTION, THE CAMEOS, THE ANIMATION, THE FLIPPING VOICE ACTORS! YES, EVEN YOU CHRIS PRATT! I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT! DONKEY KONG, IT’S ABOUT TIME YOU SHOWED UP TOO! This isn’t just a Mario Movie. It’s a flippin’ love letter to the entire Mario franchise. 37 Whole Years of Joy and Fun. I’m so happy this movie is a reality, and I can’t wait to see it with my pals! Nintendo…Illumination…thank you so so much…MUSHROOM KINGDOM! HERE WE COME!!! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
Long story short, this movie’s gonna be awesome

My Man! DK! DONKEY KONG!!!
How some people see the Mario Movie: *nitpicking and over-hating small things just for kicks and refuses to even see the film just because of that*
How I see the Mario Movie: I do not seek perfection. Only passion. And this movie? It’s filled to the brim with it. Good luck NINTENDO and Illumination. I know you can do it! 😁
Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, and Cranky Kong all being the Mario Movie be like:

This guy…I friggin love this big oaf. Seth Rogen rules the jungle as Donkey Kong, and Chris Pratt is still going strong with Mario. Said it once, I’ll say it again, this movie’s gonna be the best!!!

You look at me right frigging now and tell me this ain’t the most badass hero in the entire multiverse. Go on, I dare you.

Me getting ready to slam an ♾️ out of 10 score on the Mario Movie.
