I was asked what I'd do a PhD if I ever did one, and I've been thinking about that for a while, and I've come to an answer of 'sheet metal fabrication techniques in use in FDM manufacturing'. Which sounds cunty, but I think itd be interesting to use folding printed parts and heat to overcome issues with layers lines and their weakness, you could in a manufacturing use a heated press form to form the printed parts into the desired shape, but you'd need a way to orientate them in a specific way from the print bed. I wanna build a multi axis arm that can just grab a print off the bed and orientate it properly into the form.
