Hello, theory for uh... Rain World and its dlc Downpour? Yeah Spoilers ahead.
Theory and spoilers below
So, we know the Saint and how it seems to not have an Iterator, yeah? BUT WHAT IF IT DID.
That's right I think I found the Saint's Iterator. And it's the one and only already dead Sliver of Straw.
Why? The triple affirmative. For those who need a refresher, the triple affirmative are the rules to finding a solution to ascension in Rain World and they are as follows.
Affirmative that a solution had been found
Affirmative that a solution is portable
Affirmative that a technical implementation is possible and generally applicable
With this we should hone in on 3 and 2 because without them 1 is incomplete.
Now what is more portable, applicable, and technically implementable than a pearl with the answer key?
The Messenger that can move on its own free will. And that ANYTHING can interact with. This may also be the reason as to why it can understand the Iterators, it was built to.
Now the counter argument would be Sliver of Straws death, long before the Saint. But we have seen with Big Sister Moon / Looks To The Moon that Iterator's structures and importantly the entities in them still function a bit, even past the Iterator's semi-death.
With this I think that Sliver of Straws did a test run of the Saint and sent out its triple affirmative message right before passing onto Rubicon to wait, but along with that sent out an order to its structure to trap the Saint and to wait until a region got cold enough, then send it over.
Straws would do this to allow the others time to find their own solutions, but still help them to ascend if they couldn't.

The first of her kind to appear in this new world, Sliver is, apparently, thousands of years old.... She's lost count of the years. They understand quite a lot about this world now, how it works, how Iterators stuck here work, and the opportunities granted every once in a while. They have a lot they still need to learn, though.
So I love this gal, yes. Too bad she's not gonna be an early part of the fic I'm totally not writing.

Full lineup of the Caterators! This is the reference sheet I use when I go to do my silly doodles and what-not (with minor edits such as Pebbles pre-infection and cloak moon) In order: 5P, LTTM, NSH, SRS, Sos, UI, and GW I'm not happy with Unparalleled Innocence, but given both Grey Wind and Them do not have a major influence point at any given moment (for the time being) I do not mind.
as a note here: designs are still subject to change as I go down the line.
Up next, turning the Slugcats into Iterators. Time to figure out how to draw antenna consistently.

PTA au belongs to @exo-dus404 TFR au belongs to me And like I said on twitter, I'm gonna write down what I wanted to add: OKAY FIRST, EXODUS, THANKS SO MUCH FOR FOLLOWING ME HERE ON TUMBLR I STILL HAVE NO IDEA HOW I DESERVED SUCH HONOR HOLY SHIT I'M DYING- Second, I still cannot believe how easily an au can be made, like, literally. Originally The Frostrot au was about Agonizing Creativity discovering that The Rot, aka Pebbles' turbo cancer, can be defeated by freezing it, and also this idea had a sad end where Pebbles' fucking dies because his superstructure got frozen to the core. But, when scrolling through tumblr, I saw PTA Moon ref, looked at the pupils and was like: "Hmmm...dystopian rain world with Moon as bloodthirsty dictator...yeah I can work with that theme!" And like, I thought it'd just be funny to make something similar, but holy shit, me and @reredram managed to actually make TFR an original au, with very, VERY different lore than PTA. But still, I want to thank and credit you, @exo-dus404 for basically igniting this giant bomb...just pupils...HOW DID I MANAGE TO GET MOTIVATION FROM JUST PUPILS-
