I’m pretty sure they established again in the last JP update that Malleus didn’t just make people fall asleep, he froze time for everyone else but him. And Ortho apparently. So this hypothetical scenario where someone would pass away because of his UM is not possible. However he could be liable for other offenses such as taking people hostages, some human rights violations, but also obstruction of business. Because time maybe sitting still in his growing zone of influence, it’s still going on the outside world and probably disrupting the economy. No more trade with the island they’re on and there was probably different royalty besides Leona caught in his. And of course people like Kalim. All of them being caught in this situation are probably having huge diplomatic and economic repercussions. Some may see what’s happening as a declaration of war.

But now, if we were to imagine that someone would die because of Malleus’s actions, I think it would be ruled as manslaughter rather than straight up murder. But I’m not a lawyer, so I’m not sure.

Also I think a lot of debates would be had about wether Malleus had already started to OB before using his UM and therefore he wasn’t of sound mind at the time, or if he did as a result of using his UM and that he was simply emotionally compromised at that moment.

What I wanna know is what is the research based evidence surrounding overblots and how is it applicable in the court of law bc if someone passes away under Malleus' sleep spell I'm tryna think how this would work legal-wise.
