“With these eyes, I vow to see and appreciate your hardships and struggles. With this lips, I swear to offer vocal support especially in times where your lips can only produce a cry. With these hands, I promise to guide and support you… With this body, I can really promise to pleasure you regardless of the time,” you both laughed at his last sentence despite the tears that kept falling on to your cheeks.
“And with my heart, I vow to love you through the ups and downs and when you can’t love yourself anymore. I’ll be there to engulf you with mine until you’re ready to love yourself once more.”
You reminisced the vows he said to you that night. On your condo’s balcony where the night sky lit up because of the fireworks. You remembered being happy, being satisfied of the life you two built for yourselves.
You were ready to marry him. Build a family you dreamt of for years.
But he wasn’t.
He gave you his vows, his promise but you figured he didn’t have the courage and stance because if he did… you should have been the one that was standing there in front of him.
You didn’t want to interrogate him because it was over but your questions kept you up at night. Questions that up until now remained the same:
Why… couldn’t it be you?
Why was it that after 9 years of being together, you had to be desperate for a marriage you were never going to get yet here he stood… marrying someone he’s been with for two years.
Your eyes and his met, mirroring the same teary expression. But you both know it was for two different reasons.
You guessed you should leave now. You’ve successfully watched your ex live his dream happily while you were still a mess.
You left after greeting the newlyweds. Your head continued to look down so you didn’t notice someone who purposefully bumped himself into you. But you couldn’t be bothered… especially now that your heart still breaks upon the love of your life’s mere mention of your name.
