you gazed up at the clock next to the tv again like you had been for the past 3 hours. tick tock, tick tock. the quiet sounds of the house feeling eerie. it was already 11:00pm and your boyfriend still had yet to call or even text saying he was going to be home late. you sighed as you got off the couch, an intense feeling of sleepiness washed over your body as you headed to the kitchen to grab a glass of water before passing out in bed without him.
after gulping down half your cup, you leaned over the counter and pulled out your phone to check your messages. surprise surprise, still nothing. the last thing spencer had said to you was “see you soon, love you” 7:46pm. this wasn’t the first time he had said he would be home early and not held up his promise, but who were you to blame him? of course being super smart and having a eidetic memory was a very important asset to the team, but it had its drawbacks.
you walk down the hall into your shared bedroom, silently slipping on a old t-shirt and some shorts, crawling into bed and turning all the lights off. just as you closed your eyes, the sound of the front door opening sparked an angry fire in your gut. not wanting to rehash old argument you decided to just ignore spencer if he tried to say anything to you. the door to the bedroom opened and you tried to tune out the sound of spencer shuffling around getting ready to sleep until you felt him slip into bed.
he gently shook your shoulder to see if you were still up. “sweetheart, are you still awake?” he asked softly. after a minute of no response from you, he turned to his side and just lied awake still winding down from all the loud late night shenanigans and joking that came from the office. it was hard to just ignore him like this when you know he really meant no harm, but that didn’t stop it from stinging a little. “spence you promised..” you said in a quiet tone. turning over in the bed you met his gaze and saw the sorry look in his eyes. spencer exhaled slowly and sat up turning the lamp on. “im sorry, you know how busy we get with all the paperwork..” he stated in a voice that was laced with guilt. you sat up tears welling in your eyes, “i understand but i feel like i never see you anymore, always caught up with those stupid cases.. i get that your saving these people and i know its unfair of me to say this but sometimes i wish you didn’t have that stupid job.” you finally looked at him completely upset.
spencer pulled you in for a hug and started softly brushing through your hair with his fingers. “its not unfair, i should have let you know..im sorry for not being here, i know i need to make more time for you.” he sighed. “this weekend ill do whatever you want to make it up to you, okay?”. you immediately perked up a little “can we go to that coffee shop i like with the chocolate croissants..?” you slowly escaped his hold and looked him dead in the eyes. he chuckled softly “of course baby, ill buy you as many chocolate croissants as you want, im sorry”
you hugged spencer tight, “im sorry too, now the faster we sleep the faster we get to the coffee shop” you laughed a bit. turning off the light and both of you now laying down, he wrapped his arms around your waist and kissed your forehead. “anything for you my love” he whispered as you guys fell into a deep sleep comforted by the warmth of eachother.
