Missing You

Chris’ absence had always taken a toll on your daughter but today, on the day of her fall dance recital, the effect was even worse. As you looked down at the little girl tightly holding onto your hand, your heart broke as you took in her expression. She kept her gaze forward, quiet, as the flowers you had bought her nearly dragged on the floor. Tears were brimming in her eyes, threatening to fall and you knew the moment you both made it to the car, they would. For now, your brave little six year old refused to let her friends and their families see how much she missed her daddy. Amazed that she could be so strong, even you wouldn’t have been able to keep it together like that, the feeling quickly passed when you heard her sniffle. Immediately, you swept her into your arms, letting her hide against your neck as you finished the short trek to the car.

Like you predicated, once the door was opened and she was being buckled into her seatbelt did she finally break. Her whimpers had turned into full-blown sobs as she clutched the flowers tightly to her chest, crying her heart out for her daddy.

“I want my daddy. When is daddy coming home?” She whimpered, looking up at you with her now red and puffy eyes, forcing your already broken heart to crumble beyond repair as you struggled to find a solution for her troubles. But with Chris still working on his next film and no chance for the two of you to fly out there right now, all you could do was pull her into your arms and softly rub her back.

“Oh sweetheart. I know you do. Your daddy misses you too. I promise that we’ll see him soon. Soon baby.”

But your words did nothing as she continued to sob, her wet tears staining your shirt as she pressed herself close against you. You didn’t really expect them to though. While she was always your strong little princess, she was still six after all. With a silent sigh, you pulled away to make her look at you. A small smile on your face, you tucked her hair behind her head before wiping away her tears.

“How about we…” You didn’t have time to finish your thought as your phone rang, Chris’ familiar ringtone filling the air.

Just like that, the despair your daughter felt was gone as you quickly scrambled for your phone, letting her take it as soon as you answered. She waved as his face popped up on the facetime call, giggling as Chris’ loud voice echoed in the car.

“Hey princess! How was your dance?!”

While you would have rather stuck around to see your husband, you reluctantly climbed into the front seat and started the long trek back to your home. For now, you’d have to live with only hearing his voice. Yet even that was muffled as your thoughts continued to center around your daughter and how you could fix this.

***

Just like almost any problem in the Evans house, Disney had become part of the solution. With Chris’ help, the two of you had made it to Disneyland the next weekend. While (y/d/f/n) had resisted at first, claiming it wouldn’t be as fun without her daddy, here you were by the castle.

The two of you sat on a bench nearby, watching families pass by muttering about fast pass times and the next parade. But for once, your daughter didn’t seem to care about the next thing to do as she happily munched on her treat. The dripping Mickey Mouse ice cream bar left marks on her Belle ball gown but it didn’t deter her from trying to finish the giant treat by herself. The Lumiere and Cogsworth doll left forgotten at her side, she continued to nibble her way through the chocolate covered treat while humming along to “Be Our Guest” that the show nearby was playing.

But as always, it was too much. The simple idea made her pause until finally, she reluctantly handed you the rest of the bar.

“Do you want the rest mommy? Daddy usually has it but…” Just like last week, your daughter looked about ready to break down as she thought about the fun times with what she said was ‘the best daddy in whole wide world.’

“Woah. Are you giving my treat to mommy? Not cool sweet pea!” The new voice in the conversation immediately forced (y/d/f/n)’s head to snap up as she looked around for the familiar voice, a grin stretching across her face when she saw him.

There, in front of the two of you, was your husband. Despite how tired he must be from the non-stop filming, he didn’t show it as he walked toward the bench with a bright smile. He didn’t even try to hide his amusement as he knelt down beside your daughter. But as soon as he did, she reacted, flinging herself into his arms. The ice cream now lying on the floor, she didn’t care as she squealed, pushing herself closer towards her father’s loving embrace.

“Daddy! You’re here!”

Chris chuckled as he happily held onto her, hugging her tight as he kissed the side of her head.

“Well of course I’m here. I couldn’t stand being away from my favorite princess.”

As your two favorite people exchanged hugs and kisses, you recorded the entire thing, only putting it away when they both turned in your direction. The same goofy grin on their faces, they took the few steps closer to reach you before Chris leaned down to finally give you the kiss that you’ve been longing for since the moment he left to film. Your daughter’s soft giggles interrupted the two of you quickly though as once more, she stole Chris’ attention. Not that you minded. You adored the bond between the two and would happily step aside to make your little one happy.

“Daddy! We didn’t go on your favorite ride yet!”

“What?! Were you waiting for me? Did you know I was coming?” Chris teased while tickling her, making her once soft giggles turn into shrieks of amusement as she squirmed in her father’s arms. But you knew that she’d happily take the tickle torture if it meant staying in his arms.

You chuckled as you gathered your things before taking Chris’ free hand. With (y/d/f/n) distracted as she scooped up her plush friends, you smiled up at the man you loved.

“I missed you.” You whispered, smiling when he leaned down to softly kiss you once more.

“God (y/n), I missed you too. So damn much. I couldn’t stop thinking about the two of you when I was filming. When I brought up the idea of a break to see you two, the directors nearly dragged me to the taxi hoping that I’d come back more focused.”

You chuckled, shaking your head as you squeezed his hand gently. “I guess I should be thanking them then. Any more time apart and I think (y/d/f/n) and I would have gone insane.”

Chris couldn’t help himself as he leaned down to kiss you yet again. Not that he really wanted to. Even after years of being married, the two of you still were in the ‘honeymoon’ stage of your relationship. Every day with each other was something you both treasured and you both doubt that feeling would ever change. With a smile, he let go of your hand and instead, pulled you as close as he could to his side.

“Now I can’t have that happen to my best girls, now can I?”

“I am Home”

Warnings: Angst and Mediocre writing

(GIF, like always, is not mine)

Author’s Note: Long time no see, huh? I’ve been dying to write again and while this first attempt isn’t great, it’s a start. This is #63 from a recent prompt list I reblogged onto my page. Please feel free to leave a number in my inbox with one of the characters I’ll write for. I’d love some inspiration!

You were a fool.

From the moment Steve volunteered to return the stones, you had assumed he’d come back. That he’d back in a few seconds and sweep you up in his arms before you both helped the world recover from Thanos.

You hoped that he’d choose the life he made with you.

Yet as you fiddled with your wedding ring, leaning against the wall by the open door, your heart broke as you overheard your husband and Bucky talk on the other side.

“You’re really going back to return all those stones?” Bucky asked, leaning against the counter as he watched Steve fasten his gloves. His feet fiddled with some of the damage from the recent fight, his eyes focused on the floor to hide his sullen expression. “Someone has to Buck. I know the locations of where to return the stones and honestly? I don’t think any of the others are fit to do this right now.” Steve sighed, running his hand through his hair as he leaned down to fix his boots next.

Bucky paused. “You’re not coming back, are you?”

“What are you talking about?” Steve finally looked up, watching as Bucky did too to reveal his bloodshot eyes.

“Don’t act like you haven’t thought about it. You have the chance to go back and have a life with her. She’s the love of your life, Steve.” It broke your heart that he didn’t object. Or at least, you didn’t think he did as the room went quiet. You almost jumped when Bucky finally spoke up again. “You deserve a happy ending Steve. You’ve done enough for this time. It’s about time you went back to yours.”

Once again, the silence killed you. You felt like your heart stopped as you painstakingly waited for Steve to speak. Whether to confirm or deny it, you just needed to know. You needed to prepare yourself for a world without your husband. You held your breath as you counted the seconds until someone would speak and break the tension that seemed to haunt the room and the hallway where you were.

“Stop being ridiculous Bucky.” Steve finally said. But his voice was flat, completely unlike the one you came to love. Steve’s voice that you knew was full of conviction, truth laced in each word. Whether it was to save the world or to promise you that he’d be home for Thursday pizza movie nights, you never once doubted him. But this time, you faltered and obviously Bucky did too as he sighed again.

“Whatever you say pal. I’ll see you over there.”

You needed to go. You didn’t want them to catch you eavesdropping. But you stood frozen in your spot. The tears raced down your face as a hand flew over your mouth to hide the sobs. Your ring scraped over your lips, as if reminding you of all the precious memories you had and the ones you would lose the opportunity to experience if he chose to leave you behind.

Bucky froze when you saw you on the other side. He didn’t alert Steve of your presence though. Instead, his arm wrapped over your shoulders as he steered you away while he whispered words of comfort in your ear. But nothing helped. The only thing that could would be to see the man you loved return back with an empty briefcase and a smile on his face.

***

The three of you were silent as Bruce and Steve discussed the details of the mission. Sam had been oblivious just like you had been, hands tucked into his pockets as he waited nearby. But you and Bucky knew better. Bucky hovered near the end of the clearing, hands tucked into his pockets while you...you didn’t know what to do. You stood next to the platform, struggling to find the strength to speak when Steve finally came your way. You were losing him. What could you say?

It all happened so fast though. The briefcase was locked, Mjolnir was picked up, and in just a few moments Steve was standing by your side. A small smile was on his face as he took your hand, lifting it to his lips to kiss it gently.

“Why the long face, doll? I’ll be back before you know it.” Lies. But you couldn’t say it as tears welled up in your ears. It felt hard to breath as he gently placed his hand against your cheek. You held it tighter against your skin and savored the feeling. With shaky hands, you finally took his hand and kissed his wedding ring.

“I hope I made you happy. Even if it was just for a small amount of time.” Steve looked at you in confusion.

“Doll, I don’t understand.” He said, letting out a weak chuckle as he pulled you close against him. “Is this another one of your song references? Because now really isn’t the time.”

You just shook his head, trying to force a smile on your face. “I love you.”

Steve smiled. “I love you too. Always.” He kissed your forehead before he finally let go. You missed his touch, your arms instinctively reaching out to grab for him before they fell limp against your side. No. There was nothing you could do to change his mind. Not when his best girl was waiting for him.

As he finally took a step onto the platform, he shot you one last smile before he disappeared. Then there was nothing. You were nothing. Your arms wrapped around yourself as you stepped away from the scene, venturing off towards the nearby lake to clear your head.

Steve had left you. He left the life he made with you. It made you feel insecure. Did you mean that little to him? You’ve been with him since the attack on New York but it meant nothing compared to the little time he spent with his precious Peggy. But you didn’t blame him. She was perfect. Unlike you. The bitter thoughts in your head kept repeating your insecurities, the panic attack that hit you making it hard to breath.

You didn’t even hide the tears as you fell to your knees, clutching the grass as you struggled to catch your breath. You missed him. You missed everything about him and it was too late. It was too late to tell him to stay. It was too late to tell him how much you needed him.

How quickly you crumbled apart without him. As you still struggled with your thoughts, you felt a hand on your shoulder. Quickly, you shook it off as you tried and failed to wipe the tears from your face.

“Leave me alone Bucky.” But it wasn’t his voice that said your name next. You gasped as you whipped your head around. It was like seeing Steve after years apart and not trusting your legs, you remained sitting there, looking at him in shock. Your mouth was wide open, your eyes wide as you struggled to speak.

“You thought I’d stay?” He asked, kneeling beside you as he gently helped wipe your eyes. Your silence was enough of an answer as he weakly chuckled, leaning forward to rest his forehead on yours. “How could I leave my best girl?”

It was then that you pulled away, constantly shaking your head as you struggled to put some distance between you two. “Best girl? No Peggy was. Is.” You paused, trying desperately to speak despite the pounding in your head. “You could have stayed in the past. You could have gone home.”

Steve couldn’t stand the distance. He pulled you close, not that you objected, holding you tight as he looked in your eyes. His voice was firm, the same truthful tone was back as he leaned closer to whisper against your lips.

“Love, I am home.”

Eating cake for breakfast, a delicacy Steve could never imagine he would be able to experience due to growing up in poverty. The experience felt extra special knowing the cake was given by you.

Steve's in a good mood, he hummed the tune of the song that was playing by the radio he bought as he attacked his second slice of cake. He didn't worry about the sugar since the serum improved his metabolism. He could actually eat the whole cake if he could and he could still have the energy to go to the gym afterwards.

He stopped on his third slice, saving the rest for all throughout the week as five more were left in the box.

It's now been a month and a half since Steve met you, more than a month since you became the first genuine friend he had in a long time.

He felt a little bit of guilt as the fact that he's Captain America was still hidden from you but he couldn't help but want to cherish the time that you still know him just as Steve Rogers, a guy from Brooklyn who's a little old fashioned.

Steve doesn't doubt your kindness, No, that's not it. Anxiety, fear and disappointment were just clouding his judgment, god knows you wouldn't put it against him to hide that he was a war hero in the forties, or that he's technically more than 9 decades old or that he was frozen in the ice for 70 years, he's just too afraid that your thoughts about him would change. He wasn't too sure that you wouldn't find someone like him a freak. He's too afraid to lose you too soon.

You were his first genuine friend and he sees that as a rare luxury, a genuine friend that didn't want him for the shield or that didn't want him for the serum. To you he wasn’t a super soldier or an asset for missions, to you his a friend.

He starts to reminisce about the friendship that grew between the two of you in the course of six weeks.

You're the only source of peace he has right now, his sanctuary, his solace and he hoped to keep it that way.

He knew you'd learn about the truth sooner or later but he wanted to keep you for himself first, to keep you from knowing who Captain America is, to know the life he had that was filled with dread and hopelessness amidst the war even if they did win. He didn't want you to see the loneliness that filled his being, the emptiness he felt, the way he felt like a shell of the real Steve Rogers. Steve didn't want you to know how truly lonely he is

… well he isn't too lonely, now that he has you.

The six weeks of spending time with you have been the happiest days Steve experienced in a very long, long time.

The Best Days Are Sunny [ 3/8 ]

companion in morning shifts

Steve became a regular after the night he caught you in his arms, maybe also because he now craved the cake you gave every now and then. He developed a sweet tooth for 21st century desserts.

Just like an early bird, Steve is now always the first customer at The Coffee Express. He enjoyed the coffee and he also enjoyed your company. He finds the excuse of not finding a more delicious coffee served at your shop, compared to anywhere else but of course it's always because of you. The morning felt much merrier if he started it with you, having breakfast and coffee with you as you start to fix the shop for the morning shift made him feel warm inside. Half of his day was mostly spent with you, the other half mostly being at the gym or visiting the Smithsonian museum, though it's not like he goes there everyday … only on Sundays because that's your day off.

" So what's your job? you're here Monday to Saturday, every morning and sometimes even at night, can't help but think you're giving me too much of your time Stevie " you chuckle as you refill his coffee, leaning against the marble table top beside the register.

Stevie, the nickname never missed to give him butterflies that he passed off as him just not being used to be called sweetly by a beautiful girl as yourself.

Steve sat awkwardly, sitting on a chair near your cashier as the morning went slow. The shop only had 8 customers by 7 am. He didn't know how to answer your question, technically he's a retired veteran, in short he's unemployed.

" I was a soldier " was all Steve could answer, a pang of sadness hitting him as he remembered his comrades, as he remembered Bucky.

" Oh? military guy, nice "

"—you seem young but I'm guessing you're done with your tour? or you're on a little break? " you asked knowing a little bit of knowledge about military as your father and grandfather used to be both in the army

" honorable discharge " replied Steve not wanting to dwell into the subject matter more

" good, I didn't want to have to worry about you if you were out there, I don't want you losing a limb "

" I'm a tough guy, don't ever have to worry about me doll " Steve smugly says, playfully flexing his muscles and the nickname just naturally rolling off his tongue

" God, you really are old fashioned, you even talk like my grandfather, doll? really? but i kinda like it "

you laughed, snorting at the end while covering half your face hoping to not look undesirable Infront of the blonde soldier.

Opposite to what you have thought, your laugh was now Steve's favorite sound, even his old favorite forties song couldn't compare. Everything you did seemed magical and exceptional to Steve's eyes, even simple as a laugh.

Steve felt relieved that you didn't find the nickname offensive, he knew the time was different and that the things he knew changed.

He also felt awkward knowing he was as old as your grandfather, granted that he was frozen and that he still felt twenty seven mentally, he couldn't help but seem old because he really is from the forties.

" … you know my grandfather was a soldier too "

" really? so he fought in world war 2? "

" yeah was part of … what was it? 109? 107th! yeah that's it he was in the 107th! " you answered as you remembered your father telling you stories of how his father fought in the war.

Steve's smile immediately dropped upon recognizing the unit of the men he saved, he was still grieving Bucky, it may have been seven decades to everyone since Sergeant James Barnes lost his life but for Steve it was still fresh. The large gaping wound left by the death of his best friend, best pal, his buddy is still bleeding. He's still grieving the loss of his fellow soldier.

" hey you okay? Did I say something?? " you asked, your voice laced with worry as you see Steve's frozen form, eyes on the table top with evident sadness.

" yeah … my grandfather was there too " Steve lied, not even remembering the face of his grandfather, god he could hardly even remember his own dad's face.

" Oh, I heard all of them got captured once by the Nazis and this guy with a shield saved them, Captain America was it? cool outfit but like has this ridiculous helmet on " you snort only remembering the image of a guy in stripes and stars wielding a shield half his size.

Steve didn't know whether or not this was you hinting that you knew him, because if you knew Captain America, surely you would've known the name Steve Rogers.

" it wasn't that ridiculous … " Steve muttered, feeling a bit offended as you insulted his helmet, he subtly pouted.

" oh come on, have you seen it? the shield is cool and all but the helmet just looks … disastrous " you said with a shudder as you remember the little white wings on the side of the blue helmet and the capital A on the front, you briefly remember Captain America, the hero who won the war and died.

You mostly remember him for saving your grandfather, technically being the reason you exist at all, you don't remember studying him in highschool having been a bit of a rebellious teen who didn't like history.

The Best Days Are Sunny [ 3/8 ]

you're his food trip buddy

Boiled potatoes are not a favorite of Steve, at all and he's very much glad that the modern times have better food to offer.

" you haven't had a taco? like your whole life " you asked in disbelief as the two of you walked the streets. As you spot a Mexican food stand, you immediately grab Steve's hands, feeling the large warm hand wrap with yours making you slightly blush. The redness of your face is masked by the darkness of the night.

" mormon … "

" right … "

You happily watch Steve take his first bite, smiling proudly seeing his wide eyes as he takes three more bites immediately finishing the taco. Steve's eyes lit up with sparks as he bit into the delicious delicacy. The flavors burst in his mouth, the craving for more food consumed his thoughts.

" Sunny, another! " said Steve enthusiastically, slightly jumping like a child at a fair.

" You're lucky I like you Stevie " that was the first time you called him Stevie, it's only been a week since you've befriended the cute guy and even if you had found some things about him odd, you never pointed them out.

You were the one who introduced one of the number one fast food chains to Steve, that which would be McDonalds. Finding it weird that Steve never had McDonalds, you didn't say a thing thinking it was just how mormons were raised.

You didn't have a clue about mormons other than they technically still exist and they don't drink coffee.

" Okay so I ordered a classic double cheeseburger, fries and a coke float " you informed as you chomp hungrily on the burger making your cheeks stuffed, your puffed cheeks looked so adorable in Steve's eyes.

He stares at you lovingly as he wipes the crumbs off the side of your mouth. You choke on the burger as you were caught off guard by Steve's gesture. Steve panicked and immediately gave you his drink as yours were empty, sitting beside you as he rubs your back. The two laughed as you regained composure after almost dying because of a burger.

The Best Days Are Sunny [ 3/8 ]

his personal tech whiz

Steve didn't know much about the modern technology the 21st century provided. He still preferred the vehicles from the forties specially his sweet bike unfortunately is now owned by the government and is kept in the Smithsonian. It was stupid that they couldn't give it to him, it's technically his.

" so you just click it? "

" as far as I know that's how cameras work Stevie "

You blink as Steve clicks his phone with a flash that captures you in surprise. The look on your face in the picture made Steve giggle.

" Steve you kinda have to warn people when you take a picture of them or else you get a lawsuit "

" Fine, you take a picture of us " He says handing you the small white rectangular phone.

Steve's heart leaped from his chest as you pulled him closer with your arm on his shoulder. The soft strands of your hair tickles the exposed skin of his neck as you put your head close to his. He swore he could smell the vanilla shampoo you were using as your head was so close to his.

" so I can basically watch anything here? "

" cute animal videos to how to fix your car is all uploaded on that app "

You grinned wide while wiping one of the coffee mugs as you see Steve hold the small phone with both his large hands, a big smile etched on his face as he watches a compilation of animal videos.

The Best Days Are Sunny [ 3/8 ]

you give him comfort

You being Steve's genuine friend meant a lot to him, even if he knew in the back if his head that he should tell you who he really is. The guilt became harder to bear as the days went by and as a month passed, Steve felt the ghost of his mother nagging him for lying to a sweet girl such as yourself.

Steve knew he had issues, even before going down with the Valkyrie and being frozen for seventy years. He still hasn't processed everything, it felt as if time kept moving and he was unable to ever catch up. From technology that he couldn't grasp how it works to pop culture references he couldn't understand, but at least you were there.

He knew you saw the oddness of his personality, he's thankful you never said a word about it even if it was obvious that you just wanted to ask why the hell he didn't know all these things. He appreciates the way you explain the jokes he couldn't phantom.

" Do you ever feel like you don't belong? " Steve said with a serious tone as you both sat at the park bench while sipping coffee

" lot's of times but you know what's good with us not belonging anywhere " You said as you put an arm around Steve's broad shoulders

" what? "

" we can be lost together, that's the point of having a friend Steve, you're not alone, you should remember that " you said with a smile as you flick his forehead

He didn't react for a second but as you saw his devilish smile you stood up quickly as you ran. He puts down his empty coffee cup as he starts to chase you around the park.

The two laughed as they ran around the park with the sun shining brightly against the clear blue sky. Bubbles floated around with different dogs running wild, Steve's scenery with you and the park felt so peaceful, he swore he could stay there forever.

It's already noon when Steve saw you got tired already, still laughing as you suggested that you and him should just lay down and stare at the sky as clouds formed against the pinkish yellow sky.

" that one look likes a baby "

" looks more like a jelly bean "

The Best Days Are Sunny [ 3/8 ]

every movie is funnier with you

Not that you were annoyed but you couldn't take it that Steve didn't know all the good films you've been referencing.

" Here " You said as you slid a small burgundy notebook towards Steve across the marble top of the coffee shop.

" It's a notebook??? "

" write all the stuff I recommend there and watch some of them without me "

" look, you gotta catch up with the greatest films and songs of all time! " You exclaimed, putting your hands in the hair dramatically.

Steve smiles as he takes the small notebook and opens it while writing his name on the first page.

You dictated a couple things that Steve immediately wrote so that he'd be more informed of the modern world. He asked about the most famous things you knew, well more like what every person should know if they were living in the year 2011. You didn't think much of it and just said random things that came into mind.

Inside Steve's notebook—

Moon Landing

Steve Jobs ( Apple )

Thai Food

Star Wars / Trek

My Chemical Romance ( band )

Grey's Anatomy ( TV Show )

Rocky ( Rocky II?? )

Mean Girls ( movie )

Legally Blonde ( Legally blonde 2 )

The two fell into a routine of every Friday night they'd watch one movie, one movie that either you loved or would love to watch. Even if sometimes Steve found the movie you picked odd, he wouldn't complain because you made every bad movie enjoyable by simply watching it with him.

The Beard Needs To Go

the beard needs to go

PAIRING—steve rogers x gf!reader

SUMMARY—You badly want to be the one who shaves Steve's beard off

WARNINGS—pure fluff, allusions to sexy times but no actual smut, the plot is mostly about Steve's beard lol

A/N—random but this was inspired by that scene of Me Before You where Will let's Lou shave his beard, also that movie will never not break me , pure heartbreak! 😭😭

image

In the bathroom, infront of the mirror as the morning sun rose, the couple found themselves in a very difficult situation, well you found it difficult.

" do we have to? "

" we have to ... "

" but I love your beard! and it's great in the bedroom! " You whined while cupping his face, his beard slightly tickling the palm of your hands. You sat on the counter, back against the mirror as Steve's hands rested on your hips.

" so you just love it because it makes the sex good? " Steve asked with a laugh, teasingly while tilting his head on the side.

" of course not, I love it because it makes you and the sex hotter " You reply with enthusiasm and a teasing grin in return as Steve chuckles back.

" glad to know, but unfortunately it has to go, so say goodbye because I'm shaving it tonight baby " He said with fake sadness in his tone as he sighs while cupping your face and giving your soft lips a long kiss.

" nooo! at least let me shave it "

" absolutely not "

" oh come on! please babe?? " you beg lightly while doing puppy dog eyes paired with your cute lips pouting hoping to persuade the super soldier.

" yeah that's not working " He exits the bathroom leaving you pouting as you sit on the counter top.

" bring me coffee! " You shout as you hear the bedroom door close. Steve's always the one who makes breakfast and your favorite coffee will always be the one made by him.

The rest of the day goes on with you trying your best to persuade Steve to let you shave his beard. Even as the two of you drank the morning coffee you still annoyed him with the question of let me shave off your beard?

image

The couple chose to go to a mall, having a mall date for the rest of the afternoon. You bought some clothes for both Steve and yourself even if he insisted he didn't need any more clothes. You even bought a couple pairs of lingerie that you knew he would enjoy, secretly that is for the surprise effect. Steve bought a couple of art supplies, hoping to start painting more for the rest of his technically retirement days.

You and Steve chose to eat at a pizza shop that wasn't too busy, a big plate of cheesy pizza paired with two glasses of cold cola.

" my beard so long I have to pick food out of it "

" I could pick the food out of it for you! "

" you're joking "

" I'm totally joking " You say with a laugh as you continue taking a bite out of your cheesy pizza slice.

Steve was washing the dishes after dinner, the plain white tee he wore getting splashed a bit by the water. He turned off the faucet as he had done half of the dirty dishes.

" Oh Steve~ " You say in a sing-song tune as you untie your robe in which you had nothing underneath catching the blonde Captain who was washing the dishes off-guard, the dirty dishes now abandoned.

He quickly captures your lips with a deep moan as you giggle, almost stumbling back with the impact of his large body. His large hands immediately held on tightly to your waist, lifting you up with no effort as he leads the two of you to the bedroom.

As you calm your breath after the great countless orgams, you rest your head on his bare chest with a smile while your hands wrap around his torso and his arms wrap automatically around your shoulders. The two of you smile with bliss as the two of you even out your breathings, still a bit red and sweaty from the tiring activity.

" You did that to convince me to let you shave my beard didn't you? " Steve says after a couple minutes with a little laugh at the end. He gripped your form tighter as his head rested on top of yours.

" would you let me shave it now? " Of course it wasn't about that but your eyes are still filled with hope as you ask him about shaving his beard. You were sad he wants it gone but you should be atleast the one to get rid of it.

" fine, I'll let you "

" I love you "

" I love you too " He replies kissing you back as you smile with his lips attached to yours.

The two were back to the position they were the previous morning after getting dressed, not the one they did on the bed much to Steve's dismay but he did find it cute how much you wanted to be the one to shave his beard and so he caved. It gave him a big domestic feeling as he looked down on your hands that were applying shaving cream.

" you're really going to do it? " Steve asked but saying it as more of a fact as you were done applying the shaving cream on half his face.

" I—I'm really gonna do this " you say nervously as you get rid of the brush you used to apply the cream for his beard. You giggle with nervousness as you slowly inch the razor closer to his face.

" just don't shave my eyebrows off, baby "

" trust the professional Rogers "

" I'm serious, don't " he said sternly but with an obvious hint of playfulness as he points a finger at you in which you point elsewhere going back to focusing on the task at hand.

He closed his eyes, his brows furrowed slightly but relaxing a second later. He trusts you with his life, completely but maybe not much on shaving his beard.

You smile in victory as you successfully shaved a part of his beard in one stroke, a bit of a stubble left behind as his beard was quite thick. Steve opened his eyes a couple times, seeing you so concentrated that the tip of your tongue stuck out made him smile in which you grumble that his smile made you distracted.

Many trips of the razor to the bowl of water, you completely shaved off the two years worth of beard that Steve grew out. You grin widely with your success, putting down the razor on the counter as you made Steve open his eyes.

" please tell me you didn't shave my eyebrows off " He asked teasingly, looking at you before looking at himself in the mirror. Traces of shaving cream left that he carefully wiped away using a clean cloth.

" nice job, doll " He said with a big smile that could reach his ocean blue eyes and continued with a quick peck to your lips. You smile after the quick kiss as you rest your head on his shoulder. Your hands are sneaking on both his sides, clasping your hands together to give him one big hug.

" I told you baby, a professional "

Matches burn after the other

Pages turn and stick to each other

Wages earned and lessons learned

But I, I'm right where you left me

The warm lights of the restaurant were supposed to make you feel cozy but contrary to what you were feeling, you felt anxious, nervous and everything all at once. It's been more than thirty minutes and Steve was still nowhere to be found. The agreed time was 7 pm and it's already close to 7:40. The slow pouring rain made your situation much more gloomy.

The anxiousness became worse as more minutes passed, Steve wasn't answering any of your texts or any of your calls. Your breathing got heavy as you clasped your hands together trying to keep your cool, deep down you were feeling scared that something bad happened to Steve. You didn't think much about what people might think of you at the moment, a beautiful woman who's sitting miserably at a cozy restaurant; alone. All you could think about is—where's Steve?

Help, I'm still at the restaurant

Still sitting in a corner I haunt

Cross-legged in the dim light

They say, "What a sad sight"

It was supposed to be a fantastic night for you because finally your long time crush Steve Rogers, Captain America finally asked you out on a date though from everyone's perspective you were totally in love with the man. You wouldn't deny that, you fought with him, bled for him and almost sacrificed everything you had for him. It was obvious but maybe not to him. You are undeniably, truly, completely and unconditionally in love with him.

You're a beautiful woman, that's what you believed but it did catch you off-guard that Steve suddenly asked you out on a date. Who wouldn't? But you've been his friend for years and you believed for the longest time Steve was always gonna love one woman and that being the one and only Peggy Carter or maybe his actual ex-girlfriend who he broke up with almost a year ago, his first love's niece, the impressive and beautiful agent Sharon Carter.

You felt pure euphoric happiness and countless butterflies danced in your stomach, it felt like a million fireworks erupted in your heart when Steve decided to ask you out. You remembered every part of that day, that night—that second that he dropped the ball and asked you the million dollar question like it was yesterday, well it was actually yesterday.

[ flashback ]

" report's suck don't they? "

" and here I thought being Captain America would excuse me from the paperwork " Steve chuckled as you sat beside him with your own reports.

" oh please your hobby is reading reports "

" I never said I liked writing them "

" well I guess were the only responsible ones here seeing as you have Natasha's pile and I have Tony's "

" more time to spend with me " Steve smirked as you breath a nervous laugh as his words caught you off-guard

" my, my Captain America being cocky? "

" don't deny it, you love my company sweetheart " Steve responds as he confidently holds your chin between his pointer finger and thumb, tilting it slightly as he makes you look at his breathtaking blue eyes. Your breath hitched momentarily.

You scoffed, turning away from him not believing Steve was actually being flirty with you.

" oh yes because everybody's dying for your presence, Oh? Mr. Rogers, would you please sign my chest? " You asked while doing a slightly higher pitched voice, you didn't want to make Steve think he can just play with you. You played along with his flirty antics as you suddenly opened your jacket making Steve choke on air which was your plan. You weren't wearing a revealing top but the action definitely caught Steve off-guard.

You laughed like an old man, having difficulty breathing as you laughed at the expression Steve did after your little stunt, his red face made you laugh uncontrollably and made you a coughing mess.

" you're not gonna win whatever game you're playing Rogers " You said as you went back to your reports, calming yourself from the laughing while Steve coughed to catch your attention once more.

" What if I wasn't playing a game? "

" Then what's with the random flirting Captain? planning on trying those moves on someone? "

" yes actually, you " He replies with no hesitation, you would've laughed if it wasn't for the serious expression he wore.

" —would you give me the honor of taking you out on a dinner date? " Steve continued as you fell silent, internally you were screaming and your heart immediately beat faster than normal as his words found your ears.

" Yes ... YES! of course " You reply with a smile, and seeing the wide grin on his face made you blush madly.

I, I swear you could hear a hair pin drop

Right when I felt the moment stop

Glass shattered on the white cloth

Everybody moved on

I, I stayed there

Dust collected on my pinned-up hair

You catch yourself smiling as you remember the events of yesterday's evening. You reminisced the comfortable silence that happened after, wide grins as the two of you did reports you didn't want to but the worst news came as you opened your phone that had a notification from Natasha. You smiled momentarily as you saw her name flash on the lock screen but your face fell immediately as you read the words she sent.

she's back

Those words made your legs feel weak as more anxiety filled your mind and your heart felt like it was slowly being chipped away by the tools used in carving stones.

please tell me it's not who I think it is

yup, Sharon's back and she went to Steve like she did nothing!

is Steve with her?

You hesitantly typed, scared of what the answer to the questions that naturally floated in your head might be. Different thoughts came to mind but you didn't want to judge Steve, he would never ditch you for his ex, not without informing you first in case he did. Wouldn't he?

Yeah ... He's with her, I'm sorry

Natasha answered, making you shut your eyes hoping everything was a dream and that the special blue dress you wore wasn't for nothing. Your eyes felt teary just as a waiter went to you asking if you needed assistance in which you replied with one bottle of wine, please. You hoped that maybe Steve would come to you after he talked to Sharon, that is if that's the only thing he was doing with her. That tiny hope ran out as you've realized you've been sitting at the cozy, warm restaurant alone and pathetically for three hours straight, you've finished the red wine long ago. Now, you just sat quietly and glanced outside where the rain stopped and the streets shined as the countless puddles reflected the street lights and shop signs.

You stayed there until the staff had to ask you to leave unless you actually ordered a meal but you didn't have the stomach to eat anything as you were just ditched by Steve, Steve the golden boy just ditched you for his bitch of an ex-girlfriend without even telling anything.

Right where you left me

You left me no, oh, you left me no

You left me no choice but to stay here forever

You left me, you left me no, oh, you left me no

You left me no choice but to stay here forever

You hailed a cab quickly after exiting the restaurant, you couldn't just walk in your state. You weren't drunk but you were probably tipsy enough to trip over nothing. The elderly cab driver dropped you off in front of the tower. You held your heels in one hand and your coat hanging loosely on your shoulders. The guard immediately let you in as he recognized you. You were sadly met by nobody inside the compound as you entered, not Steve—nobody. You knew Natasha went out for her nightly jog while the others you thought were just busy doing their own stuff.

You contemplated whether or not you'll confront Steve tonight. A couple minutes passed as you sat on the couch of the living area of the tower, your thoughts consuming you as you sat silently.

With a huff of a breath you stood up, shrugging your coat as you walked barefoot on the cold floor of the tower. You pressed the fifth floor where Steve's room is located, the ding of the elevator distracted you from your thoughts.

At the restaurant, when I was still the one you want

Cross-legged in the dim light, everything was just right

I, I could feel the mascara run

You told me that you met someone

The sound of your heart shattering was all you could hear as you watched the view In front of you—Steve and Sharon fricking Carter making out. Steve was kissing Sharon Infront of his door as she was about to leave when he heard the elevator open and there you stand, looking gorgeous in a silk blue dress. You stood pathetically in a blue dress that you wore for what would've been your date with Steve but instead you see him kissing another woman.

You momentarily spaced out, you didn't know what happened after but suddenly Steve was Infront of you and Sharon was nowhere to be found.

" Y/N! " Your eyes snap to Steve as they were previously gazing on the floor.

" So yesterday was really just a game huh? " You asked with a laugh even as your heart broke more that it already was, even if you knew that it was Sharon who owned his heart. You confidently looked at him straight in the eyes with your teary ones.

" Y/N I—Sharon was just here and she wanted to get back together and to be honest I still kinda have feelings for ... her " Steve tried to explain, failing as he saw the disappointment on your face, he knew it was an asshole move to ditch you but Sharon just knew how to keep him from leaving, to pull him back into their own little world.

He did genuinely like you, he did but Sharon made him think that she's the one, the only woman who'll truly make him happy and he stupidly believed that. His mind desperately believed Sharon and him were meant to be, that the break up was just a test on their relationship even as his heart silently shouted your name. He just didn't see how perfect you were for him.

" of course, it's always going to be her, she's perfect—she's a Carter after all " You brokenly said, sadness and jealousy evident in your voice. A bitter tone encasing your words as you felt rage.

" I liked you , I really do, you're a beautiful woman but Sharon is just ... and you’ll find someone better than me " Steve said while trying to hold your hand but you turned away completely giving him a cold shoulder.

" I understand perfectly Steve, you owe me no loyalty and that's okay—I guess I just expected more from you " your voice low as all your disappointment and heartbreak was put into words.

" No, i-its, I know that was not respectful of me to just leave you hanging and ditching our date but Sharon was just suddenly here and then she just kissed me and I—I caved, look I know this looks bad but— "

" Again, it's my mistake to have high expectations and if you'll excuse me I had a whole bottle of wine so I feel a bit sleepy, goodnight Steven " You replied as you quickly turned away from him and wiped the tears that threatened to fall.

“ Y/N … shit “ you heard Steve mutter as you entered the elevator but you ignored his words as you felt so close to breaking down, maybe you fell for him more than you realized as you felt like your heart was shattered to a thousand pieces.

I'm right where you left me

You left me no, oh, you left me no

You left me no choice but to stay here forever

You quickly walked out on Steve, the elevator ride felt like forever and as you unlocked your room you immediately dropped down on the floor. A deep sigh came out of your lips as you rested your head on the large metal door of your room, tears immediately escaping your eyes.

" how could I be so stupid!? God! , you just had to fall in love with someone like him huh? yes, how could little ol' me be ever good enough for the great Captain America, Sharon’s just perfect so—perfect and she’s beautiful ... she's gorgeous "

" How could Steve not love her? "

You talked to yourself hoping Steve wouldn't hear it with his super hearing ability. You sat and stared at the ceiling questioning how stupid it was to actually think Steve was a perfect guy, well not perfect but you at least expected that he wasn't a jerk like the other guy's you've dated.

You didn't know how long you stayed on the floor crying as you felt intense heartbreak, ironic that he wasn't even yours to lose, but you stayed there crying your heart out—probably longer than the time you spent waiting at the restaurant.
