Xiangliu and the Allegory of the Cave

Can we talk about how the Nine Headed Demon’s story is a direct use of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave!? Like aaaaughhh. I believe the show references this but not in the English version.

The Allegory of the Cave goes as follows (obviously simplified for time): Several prisoners are chained in a cave, facing the shadows and away from the sun. They think the shadows are all that exist. One of them gets away and sees the sun. He returns to the cave to free the others, but they kill him.

Like, I think it’s SO COOL to use the allegory of the cave as a backstory for a villain.

Xiang Liu is such a fascinating character, and my favorite villain so far.

(oh also, yes, his story is also very Pandora’s box. I love mythology aaaahhgh)

Shadow's Realm AU (Shadowpeach)

I have an Idea for a Lego monkie kid AU.

I warn you that it's going to be religiously inaccurate. Both because I don't know much about China's religions and because the idea wouldn't work if I didn't change some things.

AU concept

In this lmk AU exists a place called the Shadow's Realm , a connected parallel dimension with the mortal realm.

The alternative names for the mortal realm is the Realm of Light or Light's Realm.

(I know Shadow and Light aren't very original but they are needed for the dynamics and mechanics of the Au)

The mortal/light realm symbolizes a pathway for beings to travel and find a way to the heavens while the shadow's realm is the pathway for the underworld. They're both secondary realms of Heaven and Underworld respectively.

Both Realms have beings living in it , in the first years of the creation of these two realms the shadow's realm was supposed to have demons and dark creatures while the mortal realm was supposed to have only humans , animals and celestial creatures but because of a mistake of Buddha some demons went to the mortal realm and reproduced to the point it was too late to return them to the shadow's realm without struggles , so Buddha made sure the remaining demons in the shadow's realm wouldn't be able to cross over to the other realm and cause trouble while the heavens would supervise the demons in the mortal realm.

The Shadow's realm looks like some kind of mirrored copy of the mortal realm but with the shadows covering the dimension and having their own shadow's born flora and fauna.

Macaque concept

Macaque is an infernal primate born from the Shadow's Realm , when he was born he decided to go to the mortal realm because of his curiousity with young Sun Wukong after observing him through the connection of the shadows between the two realms , because Macaque is a special kind of primate like Wukong , he doesn't follow the same rules of everyone else so he could come over the mortal realm by creating a vessel to send to the other world while his real body stayed in the shadow's realm sleeping.

The demons that lived in the Shadow's Realm evolved to be colourful , bright or to have natural body lights to scare away or fight the native dark creatures (their version of animals or beasts) so they could survive and/or hunt them for food. The dark creatures can't stand light or bright colours because of their poor eyesight and they can also be blinded that way.

The same goes to Macaque as well so he has bight white fur , six colourful bioluminescent ears and two golden eyes that become a bright amethyst when using magic to see where it's the darkest.

The vessel doesn't have those characteristics because Macaque thought of them to be useless and too eyecatching in the mortal realm so the vessel looks like the Macaque from the lmk serie.

After Wukong killed his vessel he woke up in the Shadow's Realm and grieved their fall out. But he wouldn't grieve for long because he will later find himself playing-pretend with a delusional Wukong about being a loving couple , and later an husband and parent , in fear of getting killed again. ( He will later find himself caring for the cub and Wukong again)

After Wukong killed Macaque's vessel (Of which he will not know it to be a vessel until much later in the future) during his journery , he fell into depression and on one night of tentative meditation to avoid nightmares of him killing Macaque he accidentally traveled over to the Shadow's realm with an "astral vessel" (like Astral protection but being able to interact with things) and found Macaque , believing it to be an hallucination Wukong indulged in the fantasy of being with Macaque again. Later on , after more visits to the Shadow's Realm each night and after finding a monkey cub in the Shadow's Realm , he will convince Macaque to adopt the cub and get married still believing it to be one of his fantasies until MK snaps him out of it and makes him realize that everything is real.

His Astral vessel is like a brighter version of himself , basically like a shadow clone but glowing in gold and therefore blending with the other realm's residents perfectly.

MK concept

Guayin discovered what was happening from a drunk and depressed Wukong and made a plan to reunite the two monkeys , she created MK and gave him two bodies , one in the shadow's realm and the other in the mortal realm , so he could switch between the two worlds. The events of the lmk serie goes mostly the same but when MK goes to sleep in the mortal realm he's awake in the Shadow's world and is the adopted son of Macaque and the astral vessel of Wukong , MK will understand the situation and what to do after growing up

(Wukong doesn't know MK is his son because in the Shadow's realm he looks like another primate , Macaque doesn't know either because he doesn't look at the mortal realm anymore so he doesn't suspect Wukong's sucessor and their kid to be the same person , MK also goes by another name in the shadow's world given by Wukong and Macaque)

The MK of the mortal realm is adopted by Pigsy and Tang , the rest of the cast acts the same

It's a running joke that MK thought that his parents were the monkey king and the six eared macaque when he was young , not knowing it was the truth and thinking he was simply a fan even when they find strange for one of the parents to be the dead Macaque , MK eventually gave up convincing them until he found his father Wukong in this realm

Later when Wukong still doesn't know that Macaque and him are real and not him hallucinating MK try to make him see the truth. ( All between the events of the serie)

When Wukong and Macaque finally talk the three of them will be a family of three , for real this time , and Macaque will create another vessel so the three can live some days in the mortal realm and others in the shadow's realm.

New Lmk Au/s but it's more of a funny scenario

In journery to the west it says that there were 4 celestial primates , but in the work only make an appearance Sun Wukong and the six eared macaque

I didn't read journery to the west but I think it didn't specify that the other two celestial primate lived in China too (if I'm wrong I'm sorry) , or that they were still alive (again if I'm wrong I apologize) but for Au plot's sake let's say they are alive but live somewhere else

I say they could live somewhere else because there are many other cultures in other places/countries were some monkeys are considered deities/demons/spirits/gods ecc

There also could be other god-like monkeys that are not exactly the celestial primates that China knows in the world , because if China's gods exist why not the ones in other places?

So what if the primates from China(Sun Wukong and Macaque) met the others from other countries? Like a meeting between the monkey kings from all over the world

Another idea with the same basic characteristic is if Macaque goes traveling all over the world and makes friends with other powerful primates and they make a fun kind of chaos

I think it would be funny if Macaque forms a quartet with all four of them being a kind of equivalent of the original celestial primates , substituting Wukong with someone else

(bonus if Macaque isn't literally the six eared macaque/ a celestial primate in the first place but him being one is just a running joke)

(bonus n*2 if he really is but his friends think he's joking , then find out it's true later)

I think it would be funny if Macaque takes his friends to China and forms a school

Macaque teachs spells/seals/curses

The wukong equivalent teachs fighting

Another teachs about beasts and artifacts

Another history and culture of demons/celestial/spirits ecc

And MK gets interested in wanting to join , Mei too , much to Wukong's dismay

Bonus if Macaque and the Wukong equivalent are in a fake relationship to mess with Wukong

Or they are in a real relationship and Wukong isn't romantically interested in Macaque but just hates the fact that others like someone he can't stand

Me:"Okay that's it!! I'm powering it off , maybe it doesn't work because of the low battery"*leaves computer to charge*

I need help to come up with names for my Aus ideas , can you all suggest some names please?

The ones that need names are:

1)The one with a power-average Macaque

2)The one where Macaque acts like a dad to Bai He and will later enter a coma

3)The one about other deity-like monkeys from other countries meeting Wukong and Macaque

And

3.2) The one about Macaque and other primates forming a school (4 and 4.2 are written in the same post because the Au develope in the same kind of world)

Shadow's Realm AU

Prologue

Macaque always thought his birth was a rather lonely one

He appeared alone in a strange dark world , he didn't have any family members or primates like him near ...if there were at all

After all when he got a bit older and started to search for someone that could be part of his family , or at least someone of the same species , there was nobody

He was the only one , he was born in a dangerous place without anybody to protect him , care for him and teach him things like how to eat or what to do in case of danger

He had to learn all of that on his own ...it was a bit depressing for a child to grow up like that

He traveled place to place , found some villages , learned a few things like speech or walking on two legs looking at the demons on the street...not that he was entirely successful seeing as he's to used to go on four to break the habit anytime soon and his speech was at a baby's level of skill

He stole food from the merchants when he was hungry and stole clothes to mimic some fancy demon he saw walking and buying around the shops

Sometimes someone would see him but he was quick to jump in the shadows to hide or run away , a power he learned about one time when he randomly tripped and fell into a shadow

It was okay but it was still lonely , he didn't have any friends , even if he settled down in a village he was still a thief and kids his age tended to avoid him , either because their parents told them to or because of some bad rumors about him

His travels seemed like an hobby at that point but deep down he still hoped he could find someone to call family or even a friend

His wish was granted but in a very strange way , the world he lived had some random bright places , they looked like strange gold mirrors , he usually never got close to them because the demons in the village thought of them as dangerous but he run out of places to explore long ago so he gave them a shot

What he found , when looking in the mirrors , was another place , completely different from where he lived , it was so bright and interesting , it wasn't like anything he saw before , with his curiousity picked he tried to find a way to go to that place

He failed , many times , because he didn't know how so he settled to observe from the mirrors in hopes something interesting would happen

He wasn't disappointed , different mirrors showed different areas of that place

He saw a kingdom on the clouds , forests and jungles , different animals and beasts , demons so dull and harsh looking compared from the ones of his world

He looked and looked and looked around

After a while of doing the same thing for days and days , time passed until the day arrived for Sun Wukong to be born in the world

Macaque found Wukong coming out of a rock funny , as well as his personality but most of all he was delighted to find he wasn't the only one anymore , how couldn't he think of this before!? If he was the only one of his world maybe there would be another in the other

In his excitement he run between the mirrors trying not to lose the other monkey , Macaque really wanted to meet him but he still couldn't find a way for it

So he watched the other as the years passed , and one day when Sun Wukong was learning about his world and the Shadow's realm , the world Macaque lived in , by his master , Macaque got an idea

He understood how and why their worlds were divided like this , the how was because of a seal from Buddha , but if Wukong's master was right when they explained various kind of seals in one of their lessons , then there could be a way to go around it

If Macaque couldn't go personally then he needed a way to go over without his phisical body , another idea came when Wukong was learning about clones and astal projection

If Macaque could do something similar then maybe it could work , so he trained and focused his powers to create something , anything that could help him reach his goal

He tried to manipulate the shadows to create a shadow clone , one without sentience and trained to be able to put his mind in it and go around , then he would only need to test if the clones could travel to Wukong's world by the shadows , and prepare a place in his world where his body could rest while he was there

It took a lot of time and a lot of failed attemps before Macaque would finally succeed

In his excitement he came out directly of Wukong's shadow , startling the other monkey

When Wukong saw him he was at first wary then realized that he was looking at Macaque aka another primate like him and the wariness dissappeared to tackle Macaque in his own excitement

They were both curious and giddy about each other and spent the many later years always at each other side ...until that day

Wukong was punished by heaven and forced to go on a journery and protect a monk

Macaque only wanted to save him but the other wasn't thinking straight

You could say Wukong wasn't able to think at all

The circlet was crushing him , the pain was unberable , and the whispers and words of heaven forcing him to eliminate the enemy made him deaf , his state made him blind to who his enemy was until it was to late

When Wukong broke free from the pain and realized who he was fighting against , he could only watch as Macaque's body , his long time partner , dissolved in a cloud of black smoke and ash

Not knowing that Macaque was still alive , and that he just broke the vessel he came to his world with , Wukong screamed so loud the heavens could hear his cries as if they were right next to him

Wukong would have stayed there grieving until the end of time but he had a journery he was forced to finish

His companions tried to cheer him up or help with his mourning with support but what they didn't know was that it would only get worse unless Macaque came back to Wukong

But Macaque didn't want to , he woke up in his own world , but instead of being glad at being alive he was overcomed by sorrow , fear and anger because of Wukong's actions

He didn't understand what happened to lead Wukong to almost kill him but he was too scared to find out so he never tried to use a vessel again to go to the other world

Macaque thought it would be the end of it all but he didn't know

It was only the beginning.

Macaque Monkey AU

In this Au Macaque "looks" like a normal non-demon/spirit monkey

Before Macaque and Wukong met , Macaque lived quietly by himself in the jungles but after Wukong started causing problems the demons and celestial alike came to challenge Wukong , Macaque life wasn't so quiet anymore and the worse part was that demons/celestial that knew him for his abilities asked for his help too many times and the ones that didn't know him mistook him for Wukong and attacked him

So to avoid this problem Macaque shapeshifted into a normal macaque monkey and hid his ears behind glamours , only Buddha would know he was in reality a celestial primate

Macaque thought that with this he could return to his quiet life but he didn't account for a Monkey king with a new acquired staff to spot him in their way back to their kingdom and catch interest in them and manhandle him to take him to said kingdom

Despite Macaque looking like a normal monkey and Wukong being none the wiser of his disguise , the monkey king was absolutely in love (at first not romantically but will be later on) with him

Wukong named him and took him everywhere , Macaque is the favorite of the king and soon everyone knew about it , Wukong even erased Macaque's name from the book of death , and fed some immortality peaches , immortal wine and pills of immortality to an oblivious Macaque so they could stay together forever

Macaque at first was annoyed at being kidnapped but later found he quite enjoyed being pampered by the king and pranking/leaving shocked others by doing things normal monkeys couldn't do with his powers (Wukong would get stunned and fall unknowingly deeper in love every time)

Wukong will think Macaque is a normal monkey for a long time (I still don't know when he should find out Macaque is like him but it will happen eventually)

Macaque Monkey AU Shitpost of ch 1

Macaque:*Tired of everyone's bullshit*

Macaque:*shapeshifts into a normal monkey*

Wukong:*passing by with his recently stol-borrowed staff*

Wukong:*hears a noise and goes to check it out*

Wukong:*notices Macaque**gasps in delight*

Wukong:"Hello you little cutie , where were you all my life , how couldn't I notice such an adorable monkey like you before?" *picks Mac up*

Macaque:*Struggles to break free* *chirps in protest because he's a normal monkey now*

Wukong:"You sound even cuter , I'm taking you with me , I'm sure you will like my kingdom and will get along well with my subjects" *Flies on his cloud with Mac to Flower Fruit Mountain*

Macaque:*slumps tiredly in Wukong's arms momentarily accepting defeat and chirping in dismay*
