Chapter 4 - The Pre-date
â...my younger siblings are all rather accustomed to being provided for. I think thatâs why they felt more free to pursue their creative passions.â Larissa explained.
She and Sonny were about 40 minutes in to what was seemingly the most comfortable and charming first date ever. They talked about their neighborhoods, their families, and most importantly, food. There were no awkward silences, the 2 only pausing to order a second round of coffees.
âAnd you donât feel passionately about practicing medicine?â Sonny inquired, desperate to know more about what made this beautiful woman tick.
Larissa smiled. âWe donât have to talk about my work, itâll put you to sleep.â setting up a joke, unbeknownst to Sonny.
He looked a little surprised. How could someone so impressive also be so modest. âI want to though. I mean, I want to know more about what you do.â
âSonny,â she said quietly, this time grinning from ear to ear. âIâm an anesthesiologist. It will literally put you to sleep.â
Sonnyâs eyes widened and he let out a chuckle. âOk, that was So. Bad. Did you get that joke from your dad?â
âNo, my dad is funnier than me!â she exclaimed.
Now it was Sonnyâs turn to poke fun. âWell,â he said, face changing to mock serious. âNot hard to be.â
Larissa shook her head and giggled. âYou lawyers. So quick. I donât know why I spend time with so many of you.â
Over the course of the coffee date, Sonny had learned that, in addition to her father, Larissaâs older sister, and childhood friend were also attorneys.
âWell, Iâm not practicing -
âYet.â She interjected for him.
âSo I guess you can keep me around for a bit.â
âI guess so.â She uttered, leading to the first silence of the meet. Not bad, just the obvious silence of 2 people contemplating who will move in for the kiss first.
As if on cue, Sonnyâs cell phone rang, interrupting the trance. He fumbled, apologizing as he answered, hand combing nervously through his graying, coiffed hair.
It was obvious this call meant their time together would be cut short. Larissa didnât take it personally when Sonny hung up and apologetically broke the news, but couldnât help but be disappointed. She remained seated with her unfinished coffee as Sonny slapped cash on the table, and before he had time to think too much about it, leaned down to plant a chaste kiss on the side of her face, and disappeared into the street.
Hours later, Larissa had long returned home when she received a text:
âWhen can I see you again?â
đ¨ SPOILER ALERT đ¨
Something that just occurred to me on the rewatch of last nightâs episode, which I really loved in the end:
Obviously Sonny and Nicoleâs relationship is pretty new, but do we think he had met her sister, Sara, before this incident? He knew she was a documentarian, which could have come from Nicole, but Iâm curious about the timing of Sara finally deciding to introduce her girlfriend of over a year that night.
Did she finally realize Nicole wouldnât disapprove because now both sisters were dating outside their race?
Mild smut ahead...
Chapter 5 - Getting to Know You, all about you
And see each other they did. Over the next few weeks, Sonny and Larissa ate and drank their way through the city.
Sonny charmed her with details about his humble upbringing in a mostly female household, impressions of his brash father, and adorable photos of his nieces. He shared his journey from public school to Catholic university to police academy to Catholic law school. He was even vulnerable sometimes, expressing the inevitable disappointment in humanity that came with investigating homicide, sex crimes, domestic violence, and child abuse.
For her part, Larissa was a captive audience, always asking the right questions, or making him laugh with a bad joke or story of her own familyâs dysfunction. She shared that where she was currently living, the beautiful brownstone where Sonny and Fin had originally questioned her, was actually the house she grew up in, but that her parents were no longer living there. In an effort to try to get her father to retire, Mrs. Vasquez decided they should make the permanent move to the familyâs Hamptons house, spending much of their time there and only keeping a pied-a-terre in the city. Her father was reluctant to âthrow in the towel and sit on the couch getting fatâ, but her mother had him wrapped around her finger, she explained.
âMust be where you get to from.â Sonny smiled at her, as they walked. âI mean, I think I could be persuaded to do just about anything by a woman like you.â
Larissa smiled and brushed her hair behind her ears, but rolled her eyes, never sure how to take a complement.
She continued to explain:
âSo now, itâs me, my little sister, who never knows where her money goes, and my older sister, who just separated from her husband, all in our old bedrooms. I do like the extra time with my niece and nephews though.â she ended the explanation on a high note, just in time, as they approached Sonnyâs truck parked on the street.
He took a few steps ahead to meet her at the passenger door, opening it for her. She stood on the sidestep to climb in, but turned to meet him eye to eye. Between the step up and her espadrille platform, she was maybe even a bit taller than the detective now. She smiled at the closeness of their faces in this moment, green eyes darting between his eyes and lips. Almost whispering, she said, âDid you want to come in later for one more drink?â
Logistically, both of them should have known that this was a terrible idea, given the aforementioned âFull Houseâ scenario Larissa had just described, but neither was thinking clearly. Sonny was a patient and gentle man, not venturing beyond a few passionate good night kisses in their time together. Every time the thought came up of having to disclose his relationship to a witness in the Nikki Staines case, he pushed it to the back of his mind, because their relationship wasnât *quite* sexual in nature, but the desire had reached its peak.
âYeah.â Sonny whispered back. âYeah, that sounds great.â practically deserting her as he ran around the car to get in the driverâs seat.
The short ride to her place was nearly silent, a feat for Sonny. Despite this, it was comfortable and intimate, their fingers playfully intertwined on the center console.
When they arrived inside, Larissa guided Sonny through the familiar foyer. It was late and no one else was in the common areas. Whether it was to keep up the ruse of a nightcap, or if she needed the wine to calm her nerves, Larissa planted Sonny on the sofa and ventured into the kitchen.
She returned a short time later with two glasses and a chilled bottle of white wine.
âI hope this is ok. Itâs the only thing at the right temperature.â
Sonny nodded, as she poured from the bottle. Geez, they probably have a wine cellar, he though to himself, insecurity creeping up, as it sometimes did. Larissa was never a snob, she was smart and hardworking, but little things sometimes made it obvious how different their lives and upbringings were, and he would worry if this was a dealbreaker.
âCheers!â Larissa exclaimed, clinking her glass to his and taking a swig, breaking Sonny out of his distraction.
âCheers.â He returned.
âIs everything ok?â she asked.
âOf course. I had a great time tonight.â
âIâm glad. Me too.â Larissa responded, turning towards him and inching closer on the sofa so their knees touched. She leaned in for a kiss, which Sonny reciprocated, his long fingers combed through her hair, holding it away from her face.
This dance continued for awhile, making out like teenagers, until Larissa climbed on top of Sonny, straddling his lap between her knees, sinking herself low, so there was as much contact between their clothed bodies as possible, forcing his hands through her hair, down her back, finally resting between her hips and the ass he had long admired, since first waiting in line at the coffee shop.
âAnd listen, Sonnyâ Larissa let out breathlessly, breaking their kiss. She looked him in the eye while mindlessly fiddling with his necktie between them. âI really appreciate you being such a gentleman these last few weeks, but I want this. I want...you.â
Before Sonny could respond in words, Larissa had moved on to planting her pillowy lips down his jawline and neck, sliding down his body until her knees were on the floor and she looked up at him wantonly, reaching for his belt buckle.
Sonny stopped her hand with his, using it to help her off the floor as he also stood up. âRiss, I want this too, but letâs go to the bedroom.â he said, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her close. The first use of this nickname felt so intimate it made her knees weak as they kissed again and she began to guide him to her room by his tie.

I needed more of them together. I needed literally any other episode where they worked together. I needed them together and it didn't happen!!!!

Look, I'm not a big fan of this ship...
BUT if these two do not get together in the newest season WTF. It's been how many years?????

If I still wrote fanfic I'd just rewrite this man's storyline so we'd learn more about his life, his sister, and how he managed to work with SVU and the FBI constantly.
Aka I miss Huang :(

Things had been a struggle to say the least. Maria upping and taking the job in DC threw Nick for a loop. Especially when she left Zara with him and it wasnât like he didnât love his daughter because he did. It was the fact that they had to find the rhythm of things without Maria which was 10x harder now that they had both just adjusted to her being there.
When his nosy neighbour decided to chat him up one afternoon as their kids played with Zara in the front yard, Nick wanted nothing more than to fling himself off a building.Â
âI had this wonderful girl named y/n babysit the kids when Jack and I wanted a date night,â the woman smiles at Nick. âSheâs in college now so sheâs a bit busy but Iâm sure she can make it work if you want her number. A call wonât hurt.âÂ
Nick took the number from his neighbour, calling Zara in for dinner in hopes to get away from his neighbour. He thanked her for the number and promised theyâd come over for dinner soon- even though he knew they would not be going over there anytime soon.Â
Nick sat beside Zara on the couch, the little girl cuddled into his side. He glances down at his daughter, her eyes heavy with sleep but she keeps forcing herself to stay awake as she wants to finish the movie.Â
âBabygirl, câmon. Time for bed.â Nick lifts her up off the couch, she groans.Â
âDad!â She scolded him, groaning all the way to her bedroom. Nick sets her down on the bed. âDo you want me to stay or are you okay?â He asks, making his way around her room to make sure the windows are locked.Â
She shakes her head, pulling the blanket up over her as she scoots down and makes herself comfortable. Nick smiles at the little girl, tucking in the edges of her blanket before pressing a kiss to her forehead.Â
âIâll be just down the hall if you need me, baby.â Zara sighs, looking up at her father. âI know dad, Iâm not a baby.â She tells him matter of factly tone, making Nick shake his head in amusement.Â
He raises his hands in surrender. âWhatever you say. Goodnight kiddo.â âNight dad,â she smiles at him, watching as he shuts the door.Â
â
Nick finds himself in bed, itâs half past one in the morning and he canât seem to settle down. Begrudgingly, he drags himself from bed and makes his way to the kitchen.Â
He tumbles through the cabinets - tea, come on, I know I bought tea at some point.Â
The tea seemed to be hidden behind a few different types of coffee stored in various shaped bottles. He made a mental note to clean the cabinets the next time he had some free time. Nick went through the motions- put the tea bag in the mug, fill the kettle with water, set it to boil and now he waits.Â
His phone sat disregarded on the counter, the conversation with his neighbour replaying in his head. âA call wonât hurt.âÂ
Nick needed the help desperately. Even if he couldnât admit that to others, he could admit that to himself.Â
Considering the time, Nick thought a text would be more considerate. You could always return his text in the morning. He hesitated, only for a second. What kind of impression does it make that Iâm awake at 1:56 in the morning and Iâm texting a college student ?Â
Pushing the thought aside, Nick drafts the text and reads it over 8 times before he actually sends it.Â
From Nick: Hi y/n, Iâm Nick. I got your number from my neighbour, Jessica. She mentioned that you babysat for her a few times and she couldnât stop gushing about how great you were. Iâm looking for a babysitter as well and I was wondering if you were available. Give me a text back or a call whenever itâs convenient for you. Thanks.Â
He barely set the phone down to pour the boiled water into the mug when his phone chimed.Â
To Nick: Hi Nick! Iâm available! Could I give you a call now or would in the morning be better ?Â
From Nick: Now is fine.Â
Nickâs phone buzzed in his hand, he clicked the little green button before lifting the phone to his ear. âHi!â you sounded half asleep yet somehow happy at the same time. Â
âHi y/n. Sorry, I hope I didnât wake you.â he hums.Â
âTotally fine, I was up doing class work anyways. Jessica told you about me huh? That woman doesnât stop talking- not in a bad way of course. Oh man, Iâm rambling arenât I?â you sigh, Nick chuckles.Â
Heâs already taken a liking to you.Â
âItâs true. She never stops talking.â you both laugh before Nick speaks up.Â
âIâve got a daughter. Her name is Zara, sheâs 9. I drop her off to school in the mornings and I need someone to look in on her while Iâm at work in the afternoons.â Nick tells you, you nod but then realize he canât see it.Â
âWould it be okay for you to come over and meet Zara ? I wouldnât want her to be uncomfortable and we can just gauge if itâs a good fit or not. We can discuss details if thatâs okay with you?â Nick finishes.
âA straight to the point kind of man, I like you already, Nick.âÂ
Nick would be lying if he said his cheeks were a bit redder then they were moments ago.Â
âWhen are you free?â he asks. âTomorrow, well technically today. Up to you know, I donât know if youâre busy or anything.âÂ
âTomorrow is fine, Iâll text you the address.âÂ
âOh wait! I gotta ask since Iâm coming to your place, youâre not a serial killer or anything right ?â Nick laughed at your question, his hand pressed over his mouth so he could muffle the sound, hoping not to wake Zara.Â
âNo, actually Iâm a cop.âÂ
âHaha, very funny- wait, are you actually a cop?âÂ
