Taking a break from my regularly scheduled programming to go tf off about one Howard "Chimney" Han because I love him and I can't stop thinking about his character growth and now imma make it all y'all's problem.
I mean, you wanna talk about REDEMPTION? You wanna talk about HEALING? This man's character arc is The Arc. We can all agree he had the best Begins episode, right?
This man....he is literally the foundation of the 118 we know and love. He is "the family you choose" personified. His kind and tenacious soul shaped the firehouse dynamics, created the space for acceptance and love to grow, and we see these roots when Hen is hired, and then Bobby, and then Buck, and so on.
I'm just thinking about how much he overcame about himself. A shitty father always out of reach physically and emotionally. A mother who died too soon, but obviously who was kind and warm like Chimney, who I imagine he tries to live up to her image every day. A brother not in blood but in arms who he lost. the voices in his head telling him you're not like the others, you look different, you can't do this, you shouldn't do that, what are you even doing here. The self-sabotage spiral with Tatiana. Surviving rebar. Surviving the stabbing. Putting himself together.
I mean, I think we forget how much of a broken mess he was in S1. How lost and untethered he felt. Chimney had serious demons, a darkness he suppresses behind a sunshiney smile. And yet. And yet. To make peace with that darkness, to keep fostering a space of love for the 118, to accept the love from Maddie and Jee and Albert, especially Albert, letting in his blood brother, letting him in even though he knows what the worst kind of hurt feels like. I'm emotional about it. Don't ever let anything but respect fall from your lips when you talk about this man.
