This story is a fanfiction to an RPG game I've played with my friends based on Danganronpa, as a continuation and a fanfic to a story in itself. Enjoy.

Stages of Closeness (1/5)

He realized he had already hugged Yuichi before, but it still somehow didn't ease his struggles.

They were already out of the killing game, and the future foundation still were testing them after it, but the whole thing still hung heavily on Shion.

Only after it all ended did he realized it was all on him, that if he failed, they'd all be gone now, and despite it being in the past, it still stressed him beyond belief.

They were all in their designated rooms provided by the future foundation, and the lighter he kept lighting on and off, was the only thing keeping him from full on break down. It would be so easy to simply go to the room next to his and try to find some comfort in his (and he still could not believe this to be true) boyfriend, but he was scared.

Would it be annoying for Yuichi? Maybe he actually doesn't like hugs, and a few previous ones were an exception made for him? What if he doesn't actually liked Shion at all and was with him only out of pity?

Thoughts like this send his brain swirling downwards.

He was always the one going to and after Yuichi, what if he was just an annoyance for him? What if...?

He jumped when he heard knock on his door?

"Shion?"

He heard a way too familiar voice.

" Um, yeah? Come in."

Shion answered closing his Zippo lighter and sitting straight on his bed.

Yuichi came in with a plate in his hands.

" You haven't really eaten recently, so I brought something from the cafeteria."

Shion now again felt like a burden for his beloved. He forgot about taking care of himself, again, and troubled Yuichi, how pathetic...

Yuichi observed carefully Shion's changing expressions but didn't comment on that, instead he simply put the plate with a few sandwiches on the bed-side table, sitting himself next to Shion on his bed, which made Shion tense up.

" I'm sorry, you need to keep worrying about me like that..."

" You're focusing on the wrong things Shion."

The taller man looked at shied red head

" You know, you can talk to me? That's usually how relationships work."

Shion started fidgeting with his lighter.

" You... You're not *with me* just out of pity... A-are you?"

Yuichi took a deep breath and laid a hand on Shion's shoulder. The red head flinched, and Yuichi retracted, which made Shion feel even worse.

" Shion, look at me."

Shion hesitantly did, expecting to see an angry face of his beloved. But Yuichi had looked at him with what Shion assumed was love and concern, which left him bewildered.

" You really think so low of me that I would be with you for such a reason?"

" I…"

Shion looked away, tears with his eyes.

" No, of course, it's just, I-"

" I'm with you because I like you Shion, but it won't work if you isolate yourself from me."

Shion simply hugged Yuichi, hiding his face in his chest, and let himself cry, while Yuichi kept on petting his head.

" You... - he started again when he finally called down a bit - ... you don't mind me doing it, right?"

" You mean hugging? No, it is very pleasant. I didn't want to initiate it since I wouldn't want to trigger anything, but if you want me to, I can start doing it as well."

Shion simply hugged Yuichi tighter, and snuggled even more.

" No one ever held me like that you know..."

Yuichi kissed top of his head.

" You should eat something."

Shion muttered something beneath him, and Yuichi let them snuggle a bit more

Yuichi was assigned some actual job by the future foundation, unlike his peers, who were just kept in their base to try and not cause trouble for now. 

He came in his apartment late that night, left some papers on the table and went directly to the bedroom side where someone was already fast asleep on his bed. 

Since their little talk a few weeks ago, Shion finally started accepting himself as someone with value, at least to his beloved. He also grew much more comfortable with him, always being somewhere close if Yuichi wasn't busy with work for the future foundation, snuggling into him or, just like today, sneaking into his room and sleeping here. He actually preferred Yuichi's room to his own, where he almost never stayed anymore. Yuichi suspected he felt too alone there, and being here reminded him that he has someone who loves him now. 

Yuichi smiled and bent over to place a small kiss on the boy's cheek. 

" Mmmhm... ? "

And it looks like Shion wasn't so sound asleep as Yuichi had thought. 

" Sorry, did I wake you?"

Shion lifted himself up, looking at him slightly disoriented, which Yuichi fought very adorable, until the red head touched his previously kissed cheek with his freshly wrapped in bandages hand. 

The blonde took his injured hand in his own. 

" Deva did that?"

Shion nodded slowly, and in response, Yuichi kissed the back of his hand, not minding the bandages wrapping it tightly. 

Shion leaned into Yuichi still keeping his eyes on his lover's face. 

" It's nothing, just deva slammed my hand with a door. He said he didn't realize it was there, but you know."

Yuichi couldn't resist and cupped the smaller boy's face into his hands and placed a kiss on his forehead. 

" You know this is also way different... - he started, leaning his head on Yuichi's shoulder. - The kissing. I like how gentle you are with them..."

Yuichi started playing with Shion's soft hair. 

" Would you like it if I kissed you properly?"

" Properly?"

" On the lips? Or will it trigger something? I've been actually thinking about it for some time..."

Shion hummed before answering in a soft, if not a bit tired, voice. 

" I think it'll be fine. Never been kissed there, and if it's you..."

" May I?"

Shion straightened up, looking at him expectantly. Yuichi placed his palm on his cheek and slowly leaned in. Shion closed his eyes, and Yuichi thought he could catch how his breath slightly shuddered, but he didn't back out, so Yuichi went on it. 

It was short and soft, and when Yuichi broke it, Shion leaned forward for a second, chasing the kiss. He then backed out and covered his lips with the palm of his hand, blush creeping on his cheeks. He then averted his gaze and went back to Yuichi kissing him himself, but only briefly. 

" I like it" he finally said - both ways. I haven't expected it to be so... Soft, but it's nice."

He smiled warmly, just like a cozy bonfire. 

" I see. I must start doing it more often than I guess."
