Tan X Fang - Tumblr Posts
Couple little things about this post I want to add, although I agree with most of it (except the tan thing that’s all u babe)
- When QToey had the fight I’m pretty sure it was clarified that the only thing that Q finds out is about Milkfrappe boy/Pencil senior. He doesn’t find out the part where Toey currently has a crush on him or that his friends were scheming to set him up.
(Still don’t like that they went with the making him jealous tactic and that he didn’t get mad at them or anything bc if it was me it would have been a fucking shitshow)
- Yeah sure Tan is kinda cringe but just because Fang used to get into fights doesn’t mean he can’t get pampered? He obviously seems to be the one who took care of his friends problems when in high school. And he’s still very supportive of them but a lot of people have been speculating that Phum and Fang have been pretty neglected and didn’t get a lot of care/attention growing up. So while Fang may not outwardly appreciate it I don’t think that it’s something he hates? Let the man get his boyfriend to take care of him, he deserves it.
We Are - Episode 10
I’m not usually a fan of slow burn romances (too impatient) but I’m enjoying the way Phum and Peem’s relationship has gone so far. Prior to the series airing, I was expecting Phum to have been in love with Peem before the whole football/painting fiasco but it seems, so far at least, that this isn’t the case, which is probably why I can deal with the slow burn. The last couple of episodes in particularly have been very well done for this pairing, particularly Phum’s jealous and inability to communicate his feelings to Peem. Very in character with what we’ve seen/discovered about him so far.
I also like that for Peem he’s taken his time to realise that he’s grown to like Phum as more than a friend. It was very clear at the beginning of the series that he didn’t want to be around Phum and if the slave deal hadn’t been in play, he’d have left Phum in the distance long ago. However, with the slave deal, it forced him to be around Phum and slowly get to see who he really is, to fall for him in a way that he never expected. It wouldn’t have made sense, given the start to their relationship, for Peem to just accept it straightaway, so to see him gradually go through the stages from enemy to friend to crush and now to boyfriend (when it comes) has made their arc enjoyable and well worth what turned out to be a slower build-up than the earlier episodes suggested.
Q and Toey are still so adorable together. I’m glad to see that their feelings are now out in the open - although this should have been done episodes ago when Q found out the truth about Toey’s feelings for him. I also like that despite the change from friends/mentor & mentee to boyfriends (again, label officially coming soon), they still have the teasing banter/playfulness that has been a big selling point in how much I’ve loved this pairing.
This might be an unpopular opinion but Tan is starting to annoy me. His whole overprotectiveness towards Fang is just getting absurd. Not wanting his boyfriend to take his shirt off at the waterfall I could accept as him not wanting anyone to see his body, that’s fine but the whole not letting him do anything when they’re sorting out the classroom, getting jealous of Fang being worried about his brother is ridiculous. We’ve discovered that Fang used to fight, that he’s not afraid to defend his friends if he thinks it’s necessary so why are the writers making him out to be a damsel in distress that needs his boyfriend to save him? On the other side, kudos to whoever shot the footage of them in the waterfall as that was a stunning piece of imagery of two very wet and handsome men!
I still need more Chain and Pun. All the little crumbs we get of these two has me hungry for more. Please tell me next week’s episode is going to be the one where they really crank up their relationship! I’ve seen a lot of people suggesting that perhaps Chain and Pun are already in a relationship but have kept it hidden from everyone and I can see where this opinion comes from with some of their interactions. I wouldn’t be mad if this was the case especially as very early on, I said I’d love it if someone asked them how long they’ve been together and Chain replied they weren’t but Pun gave a very specific time. Even if they’re not already together, I get the feeling that they might have crossed the line between friends and lovers a little, particularly when they’ve been drinking and although both like the other, they haven’t said anything because they’re worried about their effect on their friendship because something only happens when they’re drunk so they believe the other can’t possibly reciprocate their feelings. I’m probably way off with these two and due to my obvious Chain/Pun bias, trying to give them a bigger storyline than we’re probably going to get!
There's something about Fang being constantly overprotective of Phum and the way he worries about him and his tiny injury and the way Tan distracts him but also the way Tan reflects that protectiveness back onto Fang and shows him love the same way he shows love to the most important person in his life and the way Fang smiles the most with Tan but also the way he's admitted that love to Phum but told him not to tell Tan but Tan knows, Tan knows and so he protects Fang. (He doesn't try to protect Phum because Phum has Fang and doesn't need more but Fang needs Tan and his protection and his tenderness.)
you know what gets me about tanfang? it’s the way we can see fang express his insecurities only for tan to immediately dispel them without even realizing he’s doing it
fang worries that it’s boring for tan to always spend time watching him work when he could be with his friends. and tan responds with the fact that sitting and watching fang work is relaxing for him. that he loves looking at his cute boyfriend all the time
fang feels that maybe tan finds it weird or cringy when he acts soft and affectionate towards him. tan responds with how much he likes every version of fang and that the soft side of fang feels like it’s for special occasions, makes him feel bubbly inside
fang misguidedly takes his school frustrations out on tan and feels frustrated with himself for it. tan assures him he’s not unreasonable and does something to lighten fang’s mood
and none of these things feel like tan has to go out of his way convince fang that he means them because tan wears his heart on his sleeve when it comes to fang and he can see that tan is saying these things so easily because every word is 1000% true for tan
tan is just being his affectionate and bright self and probably doesn’t even realize that his sometimes over-the-top and cheesy lines actually mean so much for fang and i CRY

Tan has a little puppy face next to this name in Fang's phone! And then Fang just keeps calling him because he didn't answer!? I love them so much. Fang's love is so fierce when he isn't being soft, a lot that worries and has high expectations because he's always had to hold himself to the highest, because he's the oldest son of parents who put their business above their children and so he's used to having to push to make himself heard or noticed but never, ever with Tan.

And I love this so much. Fang is obviously upset that Tan didn't answer and Tan doesn't get upset in return, he just instantly goes to check his phone to figure out wtf is going on.

Also just LOOK at that name in his phone! And the picture! They're so cute. And so sweet. And so damn smitten.

Tan takes the time to explain what happened and why and is so worried about Fang during it. Ugh, the way they care for each other is just so BIG. It's so evident that they're the center of each other's hearts and how much they're used to having easy contact and to never waiting and it's WILD to see, honestly.

Tan is always ready to fight for his boyfriend! You don't fall in love with someone for punching you by hesitating to fight. But even more important is just how he reads Fang, sees he's upset and instantly starts offering to help him with whoever is bothering him. And if you don't think Tan would punch himself in the face for Fang... you think wrong.

And absolute baby of a man who has never imagined his beloved's weaknesses or insecurities because all he sees is how much he loves him.

All reassurance from here, nothing but, the sweetness and the love and the humor that binds them together because Tan uses humor for everything and Fang needs that. He needs to be shown it's okay to be silly and to unwind and to laugh and to love regardless of how hard the day has been or how much you just want to be mad. Sometimes, you need silliness.

Another entry for the 'Fang only smiles this way for Tan' collection. Because sometimes love is a smile that shows your teeth when you'd never do that for anyone else.

“I want to be both your safe zone and family”
let’s see, how do I even begin to put this into coherent sentences…
it’s the way tan loves, loudly, proudly, shamelessly, and fang lets it heal the broken pieces inside him; it’s the way he lets himself be enveloped by tan’s protection even if it (outwardly) exasperates him. it’s the way fang reciprocates with his own acts of service, his quiet expressions of gratitude, and tan, who never expects anything in return, understands.
it’s the way fang smiles so freely, eyes twinkling and helplessly besotted to tan’s silly whims, when they’re alone, but also that he’s learning to be vulnerable out in the open, in front of their friends and in front of the world, for tan.
it’s the way tan is so quick to reassure fang of his unwavering feelings — that he’s content to just be in his presence, the confirmation that he will never leave him, his “I like every version of you” because it’s I see you and I know you and I love all that you are and all that you’re not.
it’s the way tan unabashedly worships the ground fang walks on, but fang has his own intimate altar of devotion that reveals itself more and more with each passing episode.
I will forever be in love with how tanfang love each other. they are so, so dear to me.

Fang really is so, so sweet and so, so in love and Tan might be louder about that love but that doesn't change how much Fang loves him back. Because Fang has never known unconditional love before this. Love has always come from being the Perfect Son, from always living up to his parent's expectation, from never complaining, from being the one who listened... but now he's loved for being himself. Tan shows Fang, every day, that you can loved for being yourself, faults and all.

And this is why he needs Tan. Why Tan's over exuberance and honesty are exactly what Fang needs in a relationship. Because he is sure he will be left behind. That any mistake he makes means that he will be left in the end, that he will be abandoned, that he is not worthy of being loved without being perfect. And Tan fights that with every laugh and every joke and every smile and everyone over the top moment as he jokes with him.

Tan knows more about Fang and Phum's past than most and he recognizes that in the man he loves and he recognizes that the man he loves? Needs big love, silly love, laughing love, joyous love, indulgent love, all that love he can give him.

Tan is just so full of reassurance and tenderness and love and it is exactly what Fang needs and deserves.

They love each other so much.

okay but can we talk about fang. khaofang – this darling sweet elder brother fang – who doesn't know how to let himself be loved.
khaofang who doesn't think he can be loved because he's "too unreasonable" and "doesn't behave well." khaofang who was taught that love always comes with conditions. khaofang who is certain that everyone will leave the people they love – just like their parents did with phum.
khaofang, whose only wish is that tan offers him a warning before he leaves. if only so that he can prepare for what he sees as inevitable.
but he has tan. tan – this actual walking angel on earth tan – who knows that he is loved.
tan who is there every time fang needs him, ready to listen to his grievances and shower him in reassurance. tan who is unashamed of his love for fang, who will shout it from rooftops and whisper it in secret all the same. tan who promises fang a forever he never thought he deserved.
tan, whose only wish is that khaofang truly understands how cherished he is.

I need a kiss on the cheek to console me.
TANFANG + KISSES IN EP 15 WE ARE SERIES (2024)

I'm still just caught up in how the show is clear that Fang might have a better surface relationship with his parents but he still isn't bringing Tan around or talking to them about the love of his life. Phum brings Peem over for moral support but Fang has the world of love and the world of his family kept apart. Tan is his safe space and that means keeping him safe. Keeping him apart. Keeping him as his own secret, his own safe space, his own comfort, the one place he can truly relax and simply be loved.
Fang is always the good brother, the good son, the quiet one, the understanding one... but with Tan he gets to be too much, to be upset, to act on what he wants, to ask for affection, to ask for more, to need more. Tan is the space where Fang gets to be more than the good one, gets to simply be himself.
And nothing illustrated that more then his quiet statement about missing Tan over the phone but very carefully not including him in the family dinner. Because that easily could have been the answer. But that was never a choice. Tan is not part of Fang and Phum's family. He is Fang's chosen family. And Fang needs him to stay that way.
Fang plays the part of the good son because that is his role in the family but he is holding more secrets and hiding more of himself than Phum ever has and he hides it all with Tan, in his safe space, where he can be needy and over the top and silly and loving and too much.

Is this romantic already? We can get even more romantic.
