I imagine training with Liu Kang to be so infuriating
Not because he is hard on you or even particularly strict, the opposite actually. Because he's tender and keeps being so patient but persistent.

"I just can't do it. There's no point to this, you as a go-, as timekeeper, shouldn't be wasting your time on training me"
"Yes, you can do it and my time here with you is well spent. Again, if you please."
Like? Okay you get it you're not good at this but the pet names?
If he sees you are trying your best he will be so patient, showing you how to correct your form again and again. He'll do overtime for you, if you ask him, if you could keep training past Trainingtime. He'd love to, seeing you be so determined makes his heart swell.
If he becomes aware that you are lazing around on purpose, he will still be patient but also extremely insistant, he knows you have potential and the ability to do good. So he will not relent, until you do.
When he notices that praise and physical touch get a positive reaction out of you, he is gonna use that as a rewarding system.
Of course he doesn't tell you such, he doesn't need to, you just know. And it gets you so flustered when you perform a move correctly or do a flawless block and he just-

With a hand on the small of your back or a hand on shoulder, like???? Okay your legs just go jelly mode and he sees your form falter. This man is smirking inwardly I just know it. (doing his silly mk11 friendship dance in his head)
He loves having an effect on you, because you have a smiliar effect on him.
Like when you smile at him, giggle at something one of the champions said or just mumble to yourself while writing in your journal, this man is an observer, he sees it all and he is smitten!!
Head over heels, though you can't tell : he always seeks out your warmth, you're the first he goes to whenever he is looking for someone to share tea with. When he's feeling sentimental about the past time lines or feeling down about his newfound mortality.
This man needs approval, especially after the battle with titan Shang Tsung, as timekeeper and protector of earthrealm. When training, you often remind him of how he is very much unlike Kronika, how his kind heart would never allow corruption.
And though you feel like your own words are often lacking, because your lack of knowledge in comparison to him, your words mean more to him than you can imagine.

In the end the training by him isn't done as a means to upset you, but to make you stronger. His mind is more at ease knowing his dearest is capable of protecting themselves if he is not there.
And though he prides himself with always being by yours side, the training does more than just ease his mind.
