Ok, just think about this angst scenario:

La Muerte fell in love with a human, but when her lover died, he went to the Land of the Forgotten, since his relatives did not want to remember his death and that caused him to be eventually forgotten over time.

La Muerte felt completely devastated, because she hoped to receive him with open arms in the Land of the Remembered, but he was forgotten and was in the land of Xibalba and she could do nothing to save him.

He will always live and be remembered in La Muerte's heart and memories, but she will have to live with the pain of never seeing him again.
