“Support”

Another thing I hear all the time (typically as an offhanded way of justifying their genocide or need to have cultural change imposed upon them). is “tHe JeDi SuPpOrTeD a CoRrUpT sYsTeM”, that therefore by “supporting” the Republic the Jedi are intrinsically flawed and should be forced to change (or deserve genocide).

Do they really “support” a corrupt system?  The Jedi are constantly critical of the Republic’s conduct, they aren’t happy with how things are going.  Also-and this is an incredibly simple distinction seriously what kind of idiot can’t pick up on this, but the Jedi are not the Republic’s government.  The Jedi are under the Republic’s-more specifically the Senate’s-authority, they are duty-bound to obey it and they have no say in how it is run.  The Jedi specifically reject such roles of authority, they do not want, and even believe they don’t deserve, to rule over people.

Also here’s something the people wailing on the Jedi’s “support” of a corrupt system never address:  What is the alternative?  What other system of Galactic governance should the Jedi align themselves with?  (also think of the implications, instability, and potential disasters that could stem from a Jedi order constantly hopping from one government to the next whenever they feel like the current one is not up to code)  At the time of the fall of the Republic there was only one other Galactic power, Hutt space

And don’t you dare suggest “jUsT lEaVe ThE rEpUbLiC” because that is fucking stupid.  Oh, the government doesn’t meat your standards?  Well logically the best thing to do is refuse to be a part of it and therefore refuse to try and change things for the better.  The problem is still ongoing, but your arbitrary holier-than-thou morals are secure and you didn’t have to actually do anything.  But also, and people really need to get this in their fucking heads, the Jedi can’t just do as they please.  They act with the Republic’s consent, they have to ask for permission, their authority to act in a situation comes from their place as representatives and defenders of the Republic, the Jedi are not vigilantes.

And now comes the part where people go on about how the Jedi should just change the government.  Again, the Jedi are not vigilantes, they are not the government, and they are not a legislative body, they can only do so much.  And there are only 10,000 Jedi (of all ages) in a Republic that has more planets than that and a population in the Quadrillions (low number).  To give an idea of the numbers we’re looking at, if you put the Jedi on Earth that’s 780,000 people per single Jedi, and that’s just one planet!  And why do the Jedi have to be the ones to fix the Republic’s corruption?  Why don’t all the leaders, senators, politicians and common people have a responsibility to hold the system accountable and change it when it needs to?

And last we have this, in spite of corruption, the Republic still is the best government in the Galaxy.  Its Democratic, its not conquering the Galaxy, slavery is illegal, it wasn’t designed as a means of dominating the Galaxy by an evil cult of edgelords, and it lasted for thousands of years, whereas every other Galactic government caps out within decades at most.  The late Republic definitely had flaws, but that no reason to leave it, throw it away or not try to make things better.

HEARTSTOPPER SPOILERS

Obviously heartstopper was amazing as usual but i really wish the season had been longer, i really feel like we didn’t get the time to focus on anything but charlie

Obviously his story is so important and im glad they told it so well but i feel like even nick was pushed to the background a little, i know we had a few moments where other characters told him it was okay if he was finding it hard but it really didnt feel like we got the chance to explore that

Im also kinda bummed we didnt see more of the side characters. Somehow tao has skyrocketed it to being one of my favourite characters now so that was cool but wish we had have seen more. I really wish we could have seen more of tori and what she was going through and maybe see her and nick interact, i feel like shes a fan favourite but yet she has so little screen time. Its great to see isacc telling people hes aro ace and im happy for him but i still have no idea who he is besides someone who likes reading. And i feel like we got all tell and no show with darcy coming out as non-binary and imogen as a lesbian?

I just really wish Netflix would bring back 20 episode seasons so that we could properly explore all the characters

stan is the only member of the pines twins^2 to never make a deal with bill and i think he needs more credit for that.

ford makes, just, so many deals with his demon boyfriend

dipper literally trades his body to bill in sock opera

and while i will die on the hill that it was never her fault, mabel is tricked into making a deal with him for weirdmagenon.

but stan never gets tricked. the only time he comes close was when he was pretending to be ford but that was with the sole purpose of getting bill erased. never does bill get to him or twist his thoughts. for being the "dumb one" he's surprisingly rational in this was.

nobody matches bill intellectually, ford's fatal flaw is that he thought he did, and the pines family wins because they have an emotional core that bill never had (the power of sibling bonding saves the day and i love it) but ill go out on a limb and say that out of everyone, stan is the only one to match bill's street smarts.

bill's a master manipulator but stan is a professional con-artist with no respect for the law, you tell me who's coming out on top.

stan successfully faked his own death, ran a business for 30 years, taught himself some sort of advanced engineering to repair the portal, evaded local, federal and international authorities from the age of 18, and did it all without any support.

and going back to when he pretends to be ford to get bill to enter his mind, that scene makes stan the only character to ever outwit bill.

anyways this has been a stan pines appreciation post, thank you and goodnight

As I outline my DBDA s2 (that I am actually really excited to write despite wishing I didn't have to), I can't help but being extremely angry on behalf of the cast.

Like, I'm managing to bring myself and hopefully others some closure in a written format, but NOTHING I can do is comparable to actually seeing George, Jayden, Kassius, Yuyu, Lukas, Ruth, and the rest of the gang bring it to life.

They're irreplaceable. They're an essential part of this story.

And it's absolute bullshit that they won't have the chance to portray these characters, who they did SO WELL at building up, again.

I am so angry for them.

This is lowkey why I wouldn't be completely satisfied with a comment or a script-drop either, though of course I would prefer those things to nothing.

The performers make this show what it is.

there are genuinely a lot of shows on netflix (and other streaming services, but the main one I'm talking about is netflix) that i would LOVE to watch right now, but i can't help but wonder why i would bother? they are probably just going to cancel it anyways, and the ones they don't cancel (umbrella academy) have some of the worst endings

cancelling dead boy detectives hit me harder than any other cancellation or ending and i really don't know what to do about that.

Part 500 of me yapping about some guys !!!!

Ahhhh I love to interpret Henry Emily as a fun dad and a nice and genuine guy because I just. I need that, I need a good dad character bro or else I’ll die😭😭😭 ahhhhh!! Also just thinking about him being a bit of a contrast to William, but also like. One of the only people in the world who would like, die for Will. That’s his crush best friend. :). :) oh buddy…

But then after Charlie dies he like loses it. Not ‘I’m gonna go insane and murder several kids’ like his counterpart but rather internalizing feelings of guilt and sadness and all around just not having a good time. A terrible time even. Living is a struggle. Alcoholic, shut-in, just no where near the guy he once was. I love that so much. Also just on a fucking REVENGE QUEST against his weird old terrible friend, and that being the only thing inspiring him to keep on living. My GOD!!!!! Yes

My dumbass could write a whole essay/yap session about my ideas for this character in my own little universe idfk

Also just. cool uncle Henry🫶 (bonus points if scooped Mike just lives with his cool but really sad uncle, and that helps the both of them…just having each other. I’m foaming at the mouth)

i agree so much with ur post abt bellamort omg for me it’s like, they r very compatible to the point they feel like a healthy fluffy couple/ship, ironically 😭 whereas with lv x fem!harry, there will always be an inherent horror and power dynamic that comes with their age difference, opposite sides, their gendered identities and many more

EXACTLY anon you got it spot-on!! like, logically, realistically, bellamort is no where nearr healthy, but compared to harrymort, it's healthier by a landslide!!

and like, bellamort are super good together, and voldemort has no reason Not to dislike her advances on him, and that, to me, is slightly boring yk? and since bellamort is already canon to a large extent, there are only so many headcanons you can make up with them. their dynamics with each other have a solid foundation. whereas for harrymort, there is wayy more room for exploration and headcanons. this is not to say that i like ooc depictions of harrymort (which, let's be honest, is what has taken over the tomarrymort fandom). i just personally think harrymort (with fem!harry) is more interesting.

To expand on Lucifer's neglect more

Yes he loves Charlie dearly, yes he showers her with his love and affection and semi-approval ("it's uh...got a lot of character!") when he sees her after all these years for the first time, yes he is desperately trying to switch back her reliance on Alastor to reliance on him- all these feelings are real and strong when she's right in front of him

To Expand On Lucifer's Neglect More

-but when she isn't he is back in his own little world and rubber ducks. When he doesn't see Charlie in person she becomes white noise to him besides fleeting moments of courage and pining he gets to try and connect with her again. These are the moments where he regains a bit of clarity on just how fucked his family situation is.

He knows he has to maintain his connection with her somehow while also battling his own depression and urge to isolate and block off the rest of the world. They're in limbo of whether or not their relationship will finally be unrepairable, also expressed in how him and Lilith are not fully divorced, but still separated, with him still clearly loving her bc he still wears his wedding ring.

To Expand On Lucifer's Neglect More

I love him, I think his love for Charlie is stronger than anything in his life, and I know he'd do anything he could for her (besides the one thing she asked which is very unluckily directly connected to his trauma)

But it's true that he doesn't listen to her, doesn't keep up with how her life is going, and has remained estranged from her as a child through her adult life for years for whatever reason (smtg implied through this flashback we don't understand yet, and/or his mental health issues)

To Expand On Lucifer's Neglect More

For Charlie at this point, she's not a kid anymore, so just getting a call from him once in awhile is not enough if he still isn't addressing any of the issues that have built up between them, which has made her susceptible to being tricked by Alastor's empty words of praise and bonding

During Hell's Greatest Dad he isn't trying to address anything she's told him to, just trying to fix the surface level physical issues with the hotel to satisfy her- she looks uncomfortable the whole time he's trying to give her a sales pitch while smiling at everything Alastor says bc he is getting to her emotional needs, bc the bastard sees right through the father-daughter pair's issues

"I have angel powers! I can give you mountains of expensive things!"

"I'm always here for you! I'm so proud of you and all you've accomplished! We've grown so close bc I've always been by your side (unlike a certain someone 😇🐍🍎)"

He's excited when she asks him to come over, and we're excited for him to finally see his daughter he seems to love so much who doesn't talk to him, but from their conversation it is very much shown that Charlie is the one who has been more desperate to remain connected to him. She always updates him on her life when she can and asks him if he's paying attention to her- which he doesn't. Leading to her disappointment and/or annoyance with only jobs for her or random calls where he talks about smtg irrelevant.

To Expand On Lucifer's Neglect More
To Expand On Lucifer's Neglect More

I am a Lucifer stan through and through, but it is undeniable that he has not been a good dad despite being a good person. Now he's stepping up and reconnecting to Charlie again as she's fully accepting of him which is sweet.

To Expand On Lucifer's Neglect More

It's also nice to see that helping Charlie and reconnecting with her is what brings him true happiness in life- bc of his anxiety and trauma he avoids the thing he knows deep down is the underlying cause of his unhappiness- his distant family and confronting their fractured relationship

To Expand On Lucifer's Neglect More

So now that he's addressed a major part of the root of his depression, he stopped isolating himself, is being active, and given himself smtg productive to do, so his anxiety is down :)

To Expand On Lucifer's Neglect More

Helping Charlie addressed how broken hearted he was over his family splitting, and restored the faith in humanity and good he lost after he was banished from Heaven and failed to redeem sinners when he tried

Shshsjdjdkfk I just love the characterization we get in just 2 23 minute episodes, even though the pacing is undeniably insanely fast and I would have preferred more time to marinate in it- but what can you do about capitalism vs. artistic freedom

Soooooo some thoughts of the NSFW variety when it comes to Levi. Nothing graphic, just things that I’ve been mulling over

I personally can’t see Levi as this super harsh, degrading Dom type that everyone always depicts him as. If it’s your thing then it’s your thing but it just feels so antithetical to who Levi is and his past experiences.

For one thing, Kuchel was forced into prostitution in order to provide for herself and later her son as well. A profession that is rarely safe for women. And I highly doubt her clients were very kind with her. And I’m sure, despite Kuchel’s best efforts to shield her son from the nature of what she had to do for them to survive, there was no way she could keep everything hidden from Levi and I’m sure it deeply affected him. Levi, unfortunately, at a young age learnt first hand how brutal and cruel men can be towards women for their own gratification.

Also, in the No Regrets manga, I think it’s why Levi went so far as to, presumably, kill a group of men who beat up Isabel and cut her hair and left her a sobbing mess. Levi clearly cares for Isabel as though she were a younger sister and I think it just got him seeing red. I just firmly believe Levi cannot and will not tolerate any harm towards women. In general I see Levi as kind of “old fashioned”, but those are headcanons for another time.

I personally feel like Levi views physical intimacy as a deeply personal thing, maybe bordering on spiritual. For one thing, for him to even GET to the point of being intimate with someone means he already has to trust them with his life and to actually love them. If anything, I think Levi would be more of a service Dom, if we’re going to use that terminology.

Levi’s main focus is and always is going to be his lover’s pleasure. He genuinely enjoys knowing that his partner loves him and trusts him enough to be vulnerable enough to be physically intimate with him. He’s attentive to his partner and the slightest hitch in their voice or tensing of muscles will get him checking in with them, making sure they’re okay.

And I think what’s vital is that Levi makes damn sure that his partner knows that this can stop whenever his partner wants. The idea of going too far and violating the trust his partner places in him makes him feel vile; no better than the men who would “visit” his mother.

I just can’t imagine him being into verbally degrading his lover, or hitting them or belittling them or what have you. Levi, when he’s being intimate, is all about the praise and the affection and tenderness; in his mind this is another means of physically showing how much love he has for his partner, in a way words never could or can for him. Even if things get rougher, there’s still that core there of him focusing on his partner’s experience over his own.
