Transgender Theory - Tumblr Posts
So me and my friends have had an ongoing discussion on whether or not Kirito from Sword Art Online is transgender.
It's primarily a jokey thing based on some fun details like how Kirito has a female-only avatar in GunGale Online, that they feel more at home in an avatar than in their own body, that they were primarily reclusive and introverted, and got swept into a harem, and that in some of the newer SAO games you can customize the protagonist (make them a girl) and still be Kirito.
But like. I was playing one of the really old SAO games for the channel since I needed videos for this week and like.
Well.
The quote will speak for itself.
"Kirito… I was born Kazuto Kirigaia, yet that no longer feels like my name. Deep down I feel like I've always been Kirito, and I've abandoned that old self."
Get this bitch some estrogen NOW
FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT.

I've been looking all over the internet to find someone else who thinks Deku is a trans girl. Can you share exactly why and what caused you to headcanon Izuku as transfem?
between my thoughts on Izuku Midoriya (theyre transfem), Kazuto Kirigaya (theyre transfem) and Amano Yukiteru (theyre transfem) I think realistically if you put me in a room with an anime protagonist theyll come out on estrogen

YO SHE GOT BOTTOM SURGERY?!!
Good for her! Good for her.
All the images of Kirito dressed fem I’ve managed to gather so far!

That’s the thing that kills me! Kiri never slipped up with her acting femme with Sinon at first, it all came to her very easily and her main reservations were not liking the negative attention from the men around her and not being honest with Sinon! The moment she realized Sinon was in a situation she wouldn’t have otherwise agreed to if she knew, however, she revealed the truth. My girl…

I love her so much she looks so cute here
hey hold the fuck on is kuroyukihime actually star king?
-timeline lines up
-she's a machine child whose fluctlight got fucked with
-the name "black king"... you mean like star king but you can't see the stars?
-dislikes having blade arms in her black lotus form... subconscious trauma to quinella's construct?
-if anyone is good at handling accelerated time it's star king (including the cheating; incarnation?)
-wouldn't be the first time her memories got sealed away. she already had a second childhood, so a third one is fully on the table
not sure where im going with this but it works out weirdly well
Oh yeah I'd love to hear what you have to say about Kirito and Kuroyukihime
*cracks knuckles*
ok so kuroyukihime's *backstory* has been a hotly debated mess since day one, right? and for a long time people assumed she was kirito and asuna's daughter
except this became less and less likely as the story went on, and then *volume 23* came out
which is where we learn this:

*OH*
she's artificial
she's an experiment
and crucially her mind is in fact, an artificial soul that got overwritten onto the brain of the artificially grown baby (who for some reason got the same birth(?)day as asuna, which also seems to be relevant)
ok so we have a character who's kinda similar to kirito personality-wise, and whose combat avatar is like the platonic ideal of a dual-wielder. she *is* the blades when she's fighting, and the moves she uses literally have the same names as the sao techniques used by kirito (including some exclusive dual-wielding ones). note that the sao incident is mostly classified and also happened over 2 decades ago at this point
now let's go even further back: the alicization arc;
-it *starts* with kirito's second childhood in rulid, in the underworld. the entire premise hinges on the fact that *souls can in fact be reverted back in age and memories can be sealed away*
-it *ends* with kirito erasing all their memories from the 200 accelerated years they were stuck in the underworld, except no, *the star king fluctlight copy of their soul still exists*; and it still exists up to the latest volume of sao but nobody knows where it went
so let's add all of that up shall we!
we have here a character who had her brain overwritten by an artificial fluctlight of unknown origin at birth, with the caveat that fluctlights can be age-reverted and memory-sealed (basic necessity otherwise the alicization arc couldn't have happened, the tech is canonically not only present but over a decade old at kuroyukihime's birth), all the while a certain fluctlight copy of kirito is missing, and it's just the specific one who happens to have 2 subjective centuries of experience with both acceleration and incarnation
also add to this that the name "kuroyuki"(<hime is a title) and the name "kirito" have the *exact* same relation to the respective character's legal names
kuroba sayuki vs kirigaya kazuto; literally just the first kanji of the family name and the last kanji of the given name, they both thought of this independently
so yeah, kuroyukihime is a fluctlight copy of star king and im not kidding
(her avatar is called black lotus btw. you know, really hammering in the reincarnation theme)

^that's a kirito-isotope
it all adds up
this is a genuine theory, im not doing a bit
the magus situation, or, "ak remembers log horizon exists and it exacerbates the brainrot"
(gonna be a long one)
so to the surprise of absolutely nobody i did in fact watch log horizon at one point in the past, and also tried reading the light novel but never ended up finishing it. my opinion on it is mostly "solid and had good potential, with some unfortunate quirks to how it's written". the anime is better than sao's, but the novel is worse
this isn't what this post is about
it's instead about a certain *spinoff manga*

the fuckign west wind brigade manga in all its janky beauty. it's a story that takes place in parallel with (and overlaps with) the main story while focusing on different parts of the world and a completely different cast of main characters. it tends to be somewhat more light-hearted than the main story (but not by a lot)
it's also technically a harem story, but in the same way UQ holder is, which is to say that soujirou seta has that touta konoe charm that makes me go "yeah i fully get it this guy is impossible to hate"; he's more the guild dog than the guild leader half the time (affectionate)
*anyway*
spoilers for the west wind brigade manga incoming
so the afformentioned soujirou seta (middle character on the manga cover) is in fact the very first person to die after the catastrophe, and in the process he proved that even after the world became real, *respawning was still a thing*
which suddenly made the prospect of pk'ing much less ethically daunting, leading to a massive explosion in guilds of bored disillusioned trapped people with nothing better to do starting to kill and loot en masse, as was already a massive plotpoint in log horizon proper. some are big guilds, some are smaller
and some are technically solo
which brings us, finally, to magus

*fucking magus* (affectionate?)
edgelord in a longcoat with the cringy speeches

but it's not exactly sincere is it? it's all forced, constantly like he's talking as much to himself as to his "audience"
like he really *wants* to believe what he's saying
"it's all a game anyway, i can do whatever i want! definitely! right? RIGHT?"
it is, in fact, a coping mechanism

because to admit it's real would mean it matters. would mean you're not actually hidden away anymore. no walls to hide behind. no mask
because it's all mask
it was the whole time
because it's easier that way
the persona and the longcoat an the fancy explanations for why it's totally correct and real, trust me! definitely not fucking desperate over here, no sirree!
it's the beater again. there's a beater in log horizon but you never meet them in the main story. because for this beater, the game doesn't end because it's over. but because they finally admit to themself it was never a game to begin with. which was of course the only way out, because log horizon doesn't have a win condition
if you can't "win", you need to stop playing

but that's not quite the whole story, is it?
because you know how it is with beaters
there's always a little footnote at the end
this funny little common thread that all examples ive found so far seem to share

yeah there's a massive very explicit gender angle to all of this because it's just part of the package at this point

and that is how magus' redemption arc also has her turning into a girl
it's frankly amazing, the thematic parallels write themselves, it's so delightfully on the nose!
this whole thing is in fact one giant transgender allegory that's barely an allegory at all
the "edgy longcoat-wearer with terrible coping mechanisms" to "cute akward goth girl" pipeline is real
the seed engine gender situation
(i found a fascinating little tidbit that massively adds to an earlier observation re: the transfem kirito situation)
ok so *about volume 5*
ive already talked about the whole situation with alo having manual character gender choice while later games such as ggo use brainwaves, and the implications this has for character generation

^volume 3 (note the word "chose")

^volume 5 (egg-cracking character generator)
and the fact the avatar from the former got converted to the latter game with the knowledge that the gender was almost certainly a "stuck" variable when the ggo engine got to work on it

^also volume 5
ok so all of this is established stuff ive posted about before
but id go a step further actually, specifically because of a certain little inconsistency i found
ok so, when the guy tries to buy the account for the rare avatar-type, right, there's this exchange

^the sheer reaction here; this avatar type is *extremely* rare

^and then this exchange; but hold on! that doesn't line up with what's said 2 fragments earlier!
and indeed! the account *isn't* 3 years old at all! it's not the sao one, it's the alo one!

^end of volume 4! it's not the original account! its only playtime is the time she played in ALO! it's only a couple months old!
so why the rare as fuck avatar?!
well!
i theorise that the M-9000 type avatar is a failsafe, specifically for converted accounts from manual-gender-choice games that don't align with the brainwaves
it's not a "reward for playtime" at all, its rarity comes from how weirdly specific the generation criteria are
it's an avatar literally *only* transfem eggs from converted accounts get!
it's been right there the whole time hidden between the lines!

^dense fucking egg
