Trolls AU - John Dory's Best Friend

AKA, my idea to give Branch someone to raise and love him no matter what and stay somewhat near cannon.

I was thinking in a twist of cannon one of John Dory's best friends is a female troll named Lily he has known since they had hatched. The two have always been together as their mothers were best friends as well, so whenever the adult would meet or need someone to watch the kids they would be stuck together. So over the years she started helping him out with being the oldest and the other brothers love her, going to her more often than John.

When they are teens and the Band is a thing, Lily is supportive but keeps trying to keep John grounded. Reminding him that yes he's the leader of the band but he is also their older brother and to take it easier on them. We all know that he does not listen to that advice so she tries to take care of the fall out from his words and actions.

One of the things they do is keep watch for bergens together, sitting near the top of the troll tree. It is one of the times JD fully starts to relax knowing that she has no expectations for him. It is in one of these sessions that life takes a turn and they touch enough to make an egg. JD doesn't remember it and Lily does not press him about it, deciding the discussion about the egg can wait until after the big tour with Bitty B.

The day after the disastrous opening show and the band abandoning Branch and their grandmother Lily comes by to see if she can help. Hearing the situation she is torn between comforting the baby and immediately marching out to drag the idiot of the eldest back by the ear. But the baby's need won out and she moved into the pod to help until the brothers came back.

When Grandma Rosiepuff got eaten, Lily was visiting another pod and came back to a distraught Branch. The egg had hatched by this time and the trolling was sleeping in her hair as usual, when she picked up the sad little grey troll reassuring him again that she would never leave him.

Though the next twenty years Lily always kept that promise, changing things for him and helping him build the bunker for the three of them to live in. Staying behind in the first two movies to make sure that things at the village were safe and running smoothly with Branch taking the turn to promise he would come back. And when JD crashes Bridget and Gristel's wedding you can bet that Lily has an earful waiting for him. He is not getting near the boy that SHE raised.

John Dory's Best Friend AU Ideas

Growing up John Dory was a fairy slow writer and reader due to dislexiya. So Lily would read their school book assignments to him as well as writing song lyrics for him. They also came up with ways to make it easier for John to read them.

One of the things that did not change over their sixteen to seventeen years of friendship is the way she would read to him. John would lay his head on Lily's lap and she would run a hand absentmindedly through his hair/ scratch his scalp. During the later Brozone years this was one of the only ways JD would become relaxed enough to fall asleep.

It became part of the brozone family's normality to have Lily be the one to calm/relax JD.

Lily was also one of the best trolls to take care of Branch. Her name was one of his first words and was happy when she looked after him. So when the others were busy/needed a break they would have Lily look after Bitty B.

Lily was also one of the only people who was able to see Brozone's practices before they were "perfect". She was also always sure to speak to/praise each of the brothers on their performances.

So far that's all the ideas I have for this so far.

John Dory telling everyone that Branch and Poppy should take their time and not get delustional.

Bruce/Spruce, "Says the guy who was doodling his joint tombstone with Lily at the age of sixteen and still hasn't asked her out over twenty years later."

*Brozone bros, Poppy, Viva, and Brandy all look at JD.*

Branch, "You did that?" He is shocked but doesn't know if he should be happy that Lily would be officially a part of the family or appalled because that's his mama.

John Dory stands still blinking for a moment before saying too loudly, "I need to go check on Rhonda, see you later!" And running away.

JD stressing about the band, bergans, and being the parent of his brothers.

Lily sees him, and decided to pounce on and tickle attack him.

Baby Branch tottles in and sees the tickle attack happening. Starts to tickle his brother too.

John Dory's Best Friend AU Story

I have started writing this fan fiction. I have four chapters posted to Fanfiction.net and Archive of our own as I write this. The story is called Fish and Flower by Jillian Fahey. Yes, the chapters may be shorter. I have a solid idea of three points of the story and how it will be an open ending. But actually getting the story to do things is not always smooth. It will be mostly focused on John Dory, his friend/my OC Lily, and Branch with the other brothers mentioned. I hope you check it out.
