I was in Barnes and Noble last week to buy Dune Messiah and it was a genuinely upsetting experience (read: capitalist hellscape). I had a look at the YA section while I was there, which is currently dominated by "As Seen on the Netflix series" and "Popular on TikTok."

Look, I love a trope-y romance novel as much as your next Miss Fandom Trash but it's honestly gotten to the point where it's pushing out actual literature.
