Happy birthday Bob Amsberry!
Born on 2nd of June 1928, Bob found fame in the Oregon area as Uncle Bob on his 1954 KEX radio show Uncle Bob’s Squirrel Cage.
In 1955 he joined the cast of Walt Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club as the third adult Mousketeer alongside Jimmy Dodd and Roy Williams, contributing songs and sketches, as well as performing on the show. Bob appeared on the first and second seasons before his untimely death in an automobile accident in 1957, age 29. As a result, Mr Amsberry is, in many regards, the forgotten Mousketeer.
His posthumous credits include vocal performance in the Disney animations Paul Bunyan (Les Clark, 1958) and Sleeping Beauty (Clyde Geronimi, 1959). Little information on Bob is available, but by all accounts he was very popular among the young cast. On the anniversary of his birth I would like to remember Mr Amsberry and his contribution to one of the most popular and groundbreaking children’s television show of all time.
