Prompt 8: “Why weren't you there when I needed you?” With Nene Kusanagi warnings: might be ooc, idk if i captured the angst. a/n: thank you for the request! this was fun to write, i won't lie.

It had been countless days since you had talked with Nene. All it had been was, “Emu this, Wonder Stage that.” You were sick and tired of it.

“(Name).” She said, opening the door to the rooftop.

“Nene.” You replied, a gloomy look on your face.

“Are you alright? You look tired. Have you been eating enough lately?” She asked you, stepping closer.

You took a step back. “We need to talk.”

“I know, you told me. What about?” She cocked her head, smiling softly. “I’ve missed-”

“I think we should break up.”

She looked mortified. “What? I-I… I still love you, I… Please… What did I do wrong..?”

“Why weren't you there when I needed you?”

She breathed in a small gasp. She seemed to be holding back tears. “Y-you don’t understand… I wanted to be there, I really did… But things just got really busy, and… Y’know… I just didn’t have time…”

“Save it, Nene. Please.”

“No!” She snapped. “Even if I wasn’t able to be there for you then, I want to now! So please, please, (name)... Give me just one more chance!”

You found yourself unable to stop tears as the words left her lips, so Nene knowingly opened her arms. You crashed into her open arms, starting to cry softly. “I-I’m sorry, Nene… I didn’t realize-”

“Save it, (name).” She said in a soft, shaky voice. “I’m here now.”

Silently, you savored each other's presence, and your relationship survived another day.
