Was Gonna Do A Part Two But Angst Is Always Good As It Is - Tumblr Posts

if it was up to you, you would tweak your ideal birthday dinner. while it was the way you wanted it to be for the most part (you got to spend a wonderful evening with namjoon and the others at a nice italian restaurant) there was just one problem. sitting right across from you was jungkook and his new girlfriend. scratch that, his new girlfriend that you did not know about.
after spending two years pining over jungkook, you had planned to confess to him tonight. after they were on tour for half a year, you thought it would be perfect to confess to him on your birthday. the funny thing is they’d all known about it to, the boys. you spoke to namjoon on the phone about it prior to the dinner, telling him how nervous you were to finally tell jungkook how you felt about him. it was astonishing to see how practically everyone around you knew about your crush on him, except him. he managed to miss the way your eyes held infatuation for him, or how you left lingering touches here and there. the boys knew you were whipped for him, but it felt like a slap in the face to you all because he kept the relationship hidden from all of you. you could tell the boys were shocked when she showed up, but mostly you could see the pity in their eyes for you.
“jinah and I met on tour. she’s the assistant to one of our designers,” jungkook says after sipping his wine. he delved into a conversation with his new beau but in all honesty you zoned out after you noticed how he looked at her with lovey-dovey eyes. you mindlessly twirled your spaghetti on your fork and attempted to focus your attention to hoseok who was sharing his experience with going to a dog park in one of the cities they toured in. to your left, seokjin’s laughter overtakes hoseok’s voice, and to your right, jimin finishes his meal, wiping his mouth with a napkin. watching your absentminded actions, taehyung, sitting across from jimin says, “y/n, you seem lost, all okay?” jimin shoots a stern look to the man, but it’s pointless because you’re on the hot seat. all eyes are on you and in a panic, you only look up from your plate to lock eyes with jungkook. he’s trying to analyze your gaze, but before he figures anything out you quickly flit your eyes on taehyung.
“just really glad you guys are here,” you say with a tight lipped smile. you pick up your glass of wine and take a sip to avoid answering anything else. everyone at the table knows not to say anything. well, all except one, as usual. “you know we wouldn’t miss your birthday for the world, y/n. your friendship means a lot to us.” jungkook’s words shoot you like a bullet, and you feel jimin rub your knee in an effort to comfort you. you turn to him and give him a small smile but he sees the sadness in your gesture.
after dinner, you stand outside the restaurant and ask the boys if they want to head back to your place just to chill; but before anyone could say anything, jungkook interjected. “actually, jinah and I wanted to go grab some coffee at a place across town so I will see you sometime later. oh, and y/n,” he approaches you, jinah standing closely behind him. he reaches into his pocket and pulls a velvet box, before stretching his hand out to you. you take the box and curiously open it and your eyes widen when you see a thin sliver chain with your birthstone as a pendant perfectly glistening in the light of the restaurant sign. “jungkook, it’s beautiful.” he smiles, bunny teeth and all. “I can put it on you if you’d like,” he offers and for a second you want to forget that jinah is standing there. you want the moment to be one you can capture and store in your memory forever, just for you. but the reality of the situation is that you snap your gaze towards jinah, who looks kind of uneasy. as it seemed like her boyfriend and his “girl friend” were getting too close for her comfort. you exhale shakily, “maybe not now. I don’t wanna keep you from jinah.” you see something flash across his gaze but you’re not reading too much into it. instead you just thank him for the gift and wave to them before they walk away and leave you all there.
“y/n, we’re so sorry that we ruined your night,” hoseok mumbles. “you guys didn’t do anything; you guys didn’t even know about it,” you say but how convincing do you sound? your voice wavers and your eyes burn. you shove the velvet box in your pocket, although you’re not too rough with it because at the end of the day, it’s a gift from jungkook. “we can still go to your place, if you want,” jimin starts, but you shake your head. “it’s fine. just take me home, I wanna be alone.” taehyung whimpers at your state; the girl who meant so much to them was sad on her birthday. “y/n, please don’t cry,” he says, and you don’t wanna cry, but you feel a tear slide down your face anyway. namjoon is quick to see it, so he approaches you to wipe it away before cupping your face. “no one deserves this, y/n, but especially not you.” yoongi says from behind him, “we’re always here for you, know that.” you sniff and look up teary eyed at namjoon. “I know you guys are. thank you, but I really just wanna go home.” they are slightly disappointed, you can tell, but they don’t argue with you. you all go to the black vehicle parked away from the crowds and jimin drives you home.
if it was up to you, you would tweak your ideal birthday dinner. you would have jungkook by your side, and you would go out with the boys and have a fun night. but things can’t always work out the way we want them to, they say. such is life, and that’s the thought that echoes in your head as you get into your apartment. you lock the door and immediately throw yourself on your bed, crying your heart out on the night that was supposed to be about you.
a/n: it’s been a while. thanks for sticking around
