this is innocuous until you remember that sirius probably reread this at some point during ootp, that while he was under house arrest he probably came across this reminder that james had been dealing with the same circumstance: locked up away from the fight.

brave loud brilliant beautiful james, who snuck out as prongs when he could and who waited to see sirius again, maybe running under the moon again.

reading this it’s clear that the one person who would have understood sirius in ootp was james. the one who always, unfailingly, eternally understood sirius was james potter – and he was gone except for memories and photographs and faded ink.
