Talk about when Lucette finally, truly saw Artorias as her dad

Oo, that’s a good one. I would say it wasn’t like a definite moment that you can point to. It was very gradual and subtle. It took almost a year, about 9-10 months of them being together, for her to start seeing Artorias as a father figure. At first, she saw him as a protector. Since that essentially was what he was to her.

Then as they get closer Anor Londo, Lucette start unconsciously doing mannerisms and habits she would do with her bio dad with Artorias. Such as grabbing his hand when walking, asking him for stories, sleeping curled up next to him, etc.

Whenever people asked if he was her father, she would just say yes because it was too long to explain. And she would feel a tiny surge of pride whenever someone told Artorias how sweet and adorable his daughter is.

Then they arrive at Anor Londo and when Artorias introduces her to Gwyn and the entire court as his daughter without hesitation, the way it comes out so naturally, she feels a larger surge of pride. It just makes sense. Feels like

I feel like the final part, when she actually physically calls him Papa for the first time is when they’re having a family portrait being painted and she sees it for the first time and says “I look so pretty, Papa!”. And she sees nothing wrong with it. Neither of them do. It just fits right.

"Papa, are you ever...disappointed in me and how I turned out?"

Artorias blinked. His mouth might as well have been held ajar by how taken back the question had him. What a fool he was being, he had a duty as a father to fulfill. “No, starlight. No. Never!” he assured her with a tone that hinted that the words had left some personal wound. Without a second thought, he ushered her into a tender embrace, his arms comforting and warm around her. He peeled back to look her straight in the eye. Fingers coaxed a lock of hair behind her ear, a habit he quickly formed in her early years as a show of affection. It was all he wanted her to feel: loved and adored, for that was all she was to him.

"Papa, Are You Ever...disappointed In Me And How I Turned Out?"

A dark cloud of doubt crossed his features. Not meant for her, but for himself. “Did I... do something that would make thou think’st so?”

"Am I... a good father?"

Lucette’s blue eyes widened at the question, before her shocked expression shifted into a gentle smile, placing down her cup and hugging her father tightly.

”You’re the perfect father, Papa. I cannot imagine anyone else taking your place. I’m proud to call myself your daughter. How could anyone hope to compare?”

Here she hesitated, tapping her fingers against each other as she released him, before speaking again.

”I know I’m not the easiest child to raise. I’m not blind to my faults. But despite that, you never faltered in raising me and never made me feel ashamed of you nor myself. I can only that when the day comes that I am married, that my husband is as good of a father as you to my children.”

Do you do the "intimidate child's romantic partner" talk or do you have full trust in them?

This is in direct reference to a conversation I have had with @kingarise , where Artorias is Lucette's adoptive father.

"I have a ritual when the time comes."

"I invite to my chambers those that seek my Starlight's hand in marriage. I confess: there is no dowry, no reward to have my daughter. To have my blessing, they must kneel before I, her father, and beg for my permission. Men can be prideful 'till foolish, ungrateful of their blessings. I have been refused, and in turn, I gleefully deny the right to marry. My lineage will not be tarnished by pigs. Only one man has proven himself for the sake of my Lucette. I readily welcomed him in my family and his presence is adored. I have never seen my daughter happier and their union brought me to tears."

Lucette wiggled happily as she was picked up in her father’s arms, wrapping her short arms around his neck to hold on. The smile she had on her face however faded away when he spoke.

“But I haven’t done anything bad, Papa. And I promise I won’t get into trouble, I just want to explore. Sif can come with me too.”

The child’s nose wrinkled as he spoke of not being liked by everyone. The idea confused her immensely.

“But everyone likes you, Papa.”

A smol Lucette tugs Artorias’ clothes and asks “Papa, why can’t I walk around the castle at night like the other kids?”

It was a difficult question. Artorias knelt down. Gigantic hands ( in comparision to the small body of the child ) tucked themselves beneath her arms. Lucette was lifted with ease and held close--- affectionately, lovingly. He was tender in response to her question, a ghost of a smile barely on his lips, as he spoke to her in a hushed tone.

He did not know how to phrase it, but his daughter deserved better than his silence. So, he spoke with some caution, taking the risk that he might utter an error. "These halls were meant for Gods," he began, then internally cringed. She is going to think lesser of herself, she is going to feel out of place. Quickly, he changed the direction he intended. "'Tis the held belief, at least, by my kin. 'Tis not a matter of trust in thee, Starlight, but the trust I have for my kin. I am not close to everyone in Anor Londo. I fret... what may happen, if by perchance, thou disturb'st one who is not so kind."

Tiny, sweet Lucette had been wandering around the castle, exploring the place she and her Papa called home. She didn’t have any friends yet, so she had to play by herself. It was quite a lonely thing to do.

But she was learning a lot of fun hiding places and passageways that took her all over the place.  Eventually, she got bored of exploring dusty places and decided to go down to the forge. She remembers how Papa told her that his giant sword was made there and wanted to go see. Her dress was a bit dirty, but she knows the Giant Blacksmith wouldn’t mind.

As the little human ran down the hallways, passing numerous towering courtiers and knights in gleaming armor, she wondered where her darling Papa went. He told her that morning that he had some errands to do and that he wouldn’t be gone too long. It had only been an hour but...she missed him. To a child, an hour felt like forever. She didn’t like being left by herself for so long. It reminded her of the same feeling she felt when she had been stuck in the forest before her Papa found her.

Lucette skipped in through the giant doorway into the forge, only to gasp in delight at seeing who awaited her there.

“PAPA!” She shouted, sprinting into his arms, giggling as he picked her up and hugged her tightly. Her Papa was so tall and very big and gave the best hugs all the time. She always felt warm and safe whenever he hugged her. Like nothing could ever get her.

“No trouble, Papa. I was ploring around the castle and wanted to see the Forge. I wanna see how a sword is made!” She answered her father’s question with a grin.

Her small chubby face frowned in dismay when she was told that her father’s sword had gained a chip in it. To the tiny child, it was confusing. How can a sword that big get damaged?

“A chip? Is that bad?”

Lucette waved back at the Giant Blacksmith, a grin appearing again on her face at the offer of being allowed to watch. She was in awe at how small the sword looked in his hands. He was really big.

“Yes! Yes! I want to watch!”

“Ahh! Little wolf girl. Knight friend here too. Come in,” the Giant Blacksmith suddenly greeted, waving an overly large hand at the doorway to the forge. Artorias spun on his heel, not only for the sake to equally greet the unexpected guest, but also because ‘little wolf girl’ only meant one person to the knight as far as he knew. Lowering his gaze, his suspicions were quickly confirmed. His heart fluttered as his chest expanded with a delighted gasp, both with intrigue and adoration.

@kingarise

“Starlight!” he exclaimed with open arms as he rushed to kneel in front of her and effortlessly pick up her tiny frame to pull her into a squeezing embrace. Had he just seen her a mere hour ago, her presence a frequent occurrence in his life as she was his daughter, thus there was no need for excessive love as if the occasion was anything special? Yes, but Artorias cared naught. His heart was a large one and the love he had for his Starlight pulsed strong in his veins. It could not be helped, nor did he want to correct this habit of his. Lucette would know and experience Love— every day, every chance, Artorias had to express it.

“What bringest thou to the Forge? Certainly no trouble, I hope,” he began to question as he set down down. Fingertips tugged as the fringes of her dress, tidying up her appearance after the hold had ruffled it. “Hast thou grown curious of thy father’s armanents? My dear friend here works on my sword, it had’th received a most unfortunate chip in its glorious edge.”

At the mention of ‘dear friend’, the Giant perked up and waved once more. “I forge. Make shiny again,” he simply spoke as he gestured towards the characteristic blade of Artorias currently carefully held in colossal hands. “Little wolf girl watch? Make happy me.”
