Ray seems a lot like me haha, we both would need and love if someone could cook for us pfft. (Especially since we’re both pretty much hopeless—but we have other redeeming qualities other than the kitchen?)
Ooh, I love the found family trope I sense here! And I think it’s really interesting how both their “found” homes revolve around nature, as if they chose to alienate themselves in a way. Can I also ask why their homes seem to be so far away?

15. Are they a terror in the kitchen, able to make spaghetti, or a competent cook?
Ray isn't good in the kitchen. She can heat things up but that's about it. En can look after himself, he isn't a master chef but he gets by.
6. Do they like being reminded of home?
It depends on which home we're talking about. Neither Ray or En likes being reminded of their childhood homes. Their childhood was anything but pleasant. However, the homes they both found themselves, those places are their sanctuary. Ray lives in a house out in the woods with Zander, Mylo and Max and Milena, it's out of anyone's reach, away from the prying eyes. She loves it for the times she pushed Max into a puddle, for the times she tried to teach Mylo to shoot an arrow and failed, for the great snowball fights, for Milena's cooking. En has a house up above the mountains where clouds look like the ocean was waving under his feet. That place is sacred, only his two best friends, Natan and Zoya have been there. It's their safe place, for all of them.

i was offline for a few months, unfortunately. during the break i was slightly productive outlining until i moved (twice) and now i'm finally adjusted!

STOP. RAY DIED TWICE?? so many deaths and broken relationships- that will definitely do a number on you. i'm excited to see how these wounds take on, either by developing or by the ocs getting over the trauma. it's always interesting to see characters who struggle to get over another's death: there's that kind of conflict or tension between their other relationships created that really makes the development worth it!
it's so interesting to see Ray grapple with being a leader (essentially getting her shit together) and dealing with her loss. especially if she feels like she's replaced him in a way when he died for her! this combination of emotions definitely will send anyone spiraling. ahhhhh wait now i want to read this! if you ever have a snippet of ray unable to figure out her emotions (or letting it get the best of her) please send it my way!

I'm going to answer these for Fire and Ice (AU what isn't an AU anymore but I'll answer your other ask later and gush all about it)

Oh, there are so many, it's hard to choose. Ray died twice, that's quite defining. Ray's love, Enlil died to save her.
Kein's wife died and he wasn't there to save her because he was chasing fame and was trying to get himself a name.
Zoya broke Zander's heart and that changed his whole view on relationships. The affair with Zander also carved it even more into stone that Zoya wouldn't want to be vulnerable with anyone.
Morgan's mother is Fae and she left Morgan and her father as soon as Morgan was born.
⏳ anti-hero : what insecurities do your ocs struggle with?
Ray doesn't think she'd ever be as good of a leader as Enlil. This also leads to her constantly thinking she should have been the one dying that day. Sometimes she wonders if maybe she's evil, that she has too great of a power, that she leads everyone into damnation because hell, she's just a human girl after all, a thief, an assassin but not a queen.
Kein thinks he's good for nothing but killing. He's just a soldier, he kills and that's it and for a long time he hates that but then at the darkest hours he embraces it whilst despising himself even more for it.

I'll bring this over here. I'm sorry you had to move twice! I hope everything is settled now for you and you can relax. Glad you could be productive even during that time period though! All my respect for that for real.
Now for your questions about my current WIP... So Fire and Ice at first was the AU of Shadow and Whisper but now it actually stole the place of the original story so it is the main WIP now.

Yes, Ray died twice and then some... I mean, some couple of times almost. And yes, Kein's wife also died, just like Ray's partner. The worst part of their situation is that Ray looks nearly entirely like Kein's late wife and Kein is the dead ringer of Ray's dead boyfriend. When they meet, both still deep in the agony of their mourning, seeing each other is like salt to their wounds.
On the other hand, they share very similar struggles even besides the loss of their partners. Kein's wife was a queen and so he was king but when she died, he gave up his crown. He said it was temporary but now he has to face the consequences of that decision. Meanwhile, Ray is struggling with the responsibility of being a queen without title, being a leader, taking over someone who's spent their whole life getting ready for the role of a leader.
It's all a mess for both of them and they deal (or don't) in different ways. Kein drinks a lot, loses his way. Ray stops talking and basically puts her life to learn everything her partner knew so she could make his death not be in vain.
It's all a mess and you're right, this gives such opportunity for character development in so many ways, one of the reasons why I love putting them through so much.
