And he smiled and smiled and smiled, until his face hurt and his soul wept, and he wanted to take hold of his stuttering heart, that felt scarred and raw and bleeding, while inside he was being ripped apart, piece by piece, decaying hands of rotting flesh taking hold of him, pulling him down, further and further away from the light…

Gather

- - -

Wei Wuxian let himself fall to the ground, ignoring the pain in his knees upon impact. Without hesitation he reached for Lan Wangji, pulling him close, into his arms, pressing him to his body, holding on tightly. His wings rose automatically, creating a protective wall around them, Lan Wangji’s own wings twitching in reaction to the light brush of leathery skin and bone against them.

“Step away, Wei Wuxian!”, one of the cultivators before them demanded, lifting his sword and pointing it at them.

Wei Wuxian bared his teeth in a cruel smile, letting the Yiling Laozu out of the dark, twisted cage inside of him, felt him take deep breaths of resentful energy and let it rush through his body, until a red tinge to his vision told him his eyes had changed their color to a deep, bloody red. His wings quivered in their position, the resentful energy making them seem much bigger and menacing than they were.

“You want him?”, he replied, hearing the dark, rumbling undertone in his voice and noting with satisfaction the terror that began spreading over the cultivators’ faces, “You can have him. Over my dead body.” The resentful energy began gathering visibly in the air, building up to coiling bands, that twisted around him like snakes, while his arms pulled Lan Wangji in even tighter.

“You come any closer and I will rip you apart, body and soul, until there’s nothing left of you but ashes.”

(I had planned on submitting this to fytheuntamed’s fall fest, but I just couldn’t get the colors right and didn’t. Now, I decided to f*** color and here it is, because I invested too much time for it to go unseen. Hope you enjoy!)

So, some of you may remember my fanart and fanfiction for fytheuntamed’s Untamed Fall Fest 2020: Golden, which I posted now pretty much exactly a year ago, and, guess what, I made a second part!

You don't necessarily need to have read the first part, if you just want to enjoy the art, but for better understanding and if you want to, I'd be happy to have you take a quick look at it.

Also, the story here is just a preview, if you want to read the whole thing, visit this story on my Ao3-account.

So, Some Of You May Remember My Fanart And Fanfiction For Fytheuntameds Untamed Fall Fest 2020: Golden,

Carnage of Red Shadows

---

"There you are. For a moment here, I thought you wouldn’t come at all.“

The voice echoed through the whole room, as if the owner had screamed, even though his tone was calm, nearly bored.

Lan Wangji’s head jerked up, to find a figure sitting on the throne at the other side of the room.

Silver eyes locked onto his and he nearly forgot how to breathe.

He knew those eyes, he remembered them, remembered them looking at him teasingly, with a shining glimmer inside them that made them look like stars.

"Wen… Wen Wuxian?“, his brother asked in an uncertain tone.

"In the flesh“, the other man replied with a careless wave of his hand down his body.

And Lan Wangji wished he hadn’t, because his eyes followed the movement, lured by the soft tinkling of the chains and rings on a pale hand, and fell upon the body that he wished he could have forgotten.

Again, it was clad in less garments than would be considered proper, the legs barely hidden behind skirts layered upon one another, littered with golden gems that blinked and glittered in the firelight. The outermost skirt was made from a translucent, flowing fabric, dark like smoke, teasing with the silhouette of a pale, creamy leg, pulled up onto the throne, while it’s counterpart was naked and out in the open for everyone to see. The inner skirt was blood red and covering just enough remain the bare amount of decent, while the chest was just so covered by fabric in matching black and red.

And again the man was draped in more jewelry than even Jin Zixuan out on a special day. An elaborate headpiece sat on top of his hair, red gems sitting in delicate strings of gold. Long golden chains flowed down his back with his shimmering hair, clinking softly with every movement of his head. More golden strings were strapped across his chest and even more connected the chest piece with the bracelets on his arms. His neck, wrists, upper arms, thighs and ankles glimmered with golden bands.

But the worst of all, worse than the revealing clothes and the enticing gold all over his body, was his face. Not bare with the faintest traces of lip stain like the last time Lan Wangji had seen him, his eyes were surrounded by red shadows this time, like he had only seen some wealthy women wear or those of less appropriate professions. Little flakes of gold flared up with the smallest movement, clinging to the skin around his eyes and even to his lashes.

The silver eyes looked even brighter and at the same time nearly threateningly sharp, sending shivers down Lan Wangjis back, as did the dark red lips with the same golden shimmer, pulled into a tiny smirk.

Just like the first time he had seen the mystifying figure that was Wen Wuxian, Lan Wangji was mesmerized. No matter that seconds ago he was ready to fight for his life and sect and was surrounded by foul-smelling, rotting bodies, he was unable to take his eyes off the man, his heart beating fast and loud in his ears. Everything about him, from his dark, flowing locks, to the pale, creamy, soft looking skin, to the tantalizing gold and jewels creating an aura of superiority and unimpeachability, to his captivating eyes, fascinated him on a level no person had ever reached before. Even without ever being any closer to this man than this, separated by a whole room, even with just a look, he took hold of him, touching places inside him no one has ever been able to touch.

He felt hot and cold at the same time, felt the desire to go over and take a closer look, run his hands over his skin, to see if it was just as soft as it looked, and at the same time to just stand there for eternity and be allowed to never take his eyes off him.

His feelings, that he had such a tight hold on since he could remember, were running wild and free through his body, making it react in ways he hadn’t experienced before, making him feel uselessly off guard, making him unable to think clearly, to actually grasp the situation. They were warring against his head, that was urging him to gather himself and actually pay attention to what was happening around him.

The sound of a sword meeting stone finally ripped his focus free in a jarring way, that felt a lot like cold water being splashed onto him. With a miniscule shake of his head and gripping Bichens hilt, until he had the feeling it’s impression would be forever pressed into his palm, he managed to rip his eyes away and focus them back onto the piles of corpses.

Just looking at their dead eyes and some still sluggishly bleeding bodies was sobering and he felt his senses return to him, together with the overwhelming stench and the sounds of people retching behind him.

"How do you like my welcome present?“, Wen Wuxian spoke again, this time with a wave into the room to encompass all the death inside it, "I thought it might satisfy you.“

The glint in his eyes made them look nearly eerie.

Meaning of 陈情 Chenqing

This is going to be a rehash of the old Taming Wangxian footnotes, but I’ll be adding a little more.

The term 陈情 Chenqing has two meanings.  The first would be to reminisce past relationship (former friendship), and the second would be to provide a full account of (an issue).

Meaning Of Chenqing

To gain further context about this term, let us look at where it originated from.  It was first originated from Wenxuan (‘Selections of Refined Literature”) compiled by 萧统 Xiao Tong, the Crown Prince of the Liang Dynasty.  In the Wenxuan, there is a segment called the 陈情表 Chenqing Memorial (to the throne), which is a letter written by Li Mi, a scholar of the Western Jin Dynasty to the Emperor Wu of Jin.  The Emperor Wu of Jin had employed him to work in the palace stables but Li Mi wanted to take care of his elderly grandmother.  His father died, his mother remarried and he lived with his grandmother.  So he wrote this heartfelt letter about his family circumstances and the hardship that he’s facing.  (It’s basically a resignation letter lol). The story didn’t end well and he was removed from his post, defamed and he died at home.

This term is also used in the modern context of confessing before a court.  Hence, a 陈情 Chenqing is almost like a plea of sorts.  It fits so well as firstly, Wei Wuxian is essentially treated like a criminal throughout the entire book and everyone in the series expects a “confession” from him.  The confrontation at Nightless City was almost like a court that wanted to trial him.  And secondly, from the historical context of the word, it could have hinted that it wouldn’t make a different no matter what he said and he wouldn’t have ended well.

陈情 and 随便 are commonly thought to depict the shift in Wei Wuxian’s character. 随便 (suí biàn) represents his youth; he is carefree, relaxed and without worry.  陈情 on the other hand, is a depiction of his loss and loneliness. Chenqing was created from his time in the Burial Mounds - it’s a turning point for him because at this juncture, he had no means to give his own account or prove his “innocence”, simply because he has walked the demonic path. He’s unable to tell his loved ones that he lost his jindan, and as much as he misses his past relationships, he’s unable to relive them because he’s labelled a “demonic” Yiling Laozu.

An interesting titbit can be found in the title of the Untamed, 陈情令 (chén qíng lìng). There are two possible interpretations to this.

(i) The main focus of the story is on Wei Wuxian and his character growth, hence placing 陈情 in the title puts the emphasis on him.

(ii) 陈情一曲令天下 (chén qíng yī qū lìng tiān xià) - According to a forum, the producers have  used this line to describe the drama’s title. It can be translated to, “a song from Chenqing commands the world”, aptly depicting Chenqing’s power.

Just got him August 22, at 8pm

He’s cute BUT so fragile

Look at the hair tie and the hair piece. So many slender parts. I fear breaking them while changing the parts!

Look at the last pic- GSC advertised a moveable hair piece but I assumed it’s only the pony tail. Turns out it’s the hair at the ears area- its jointed and I see something white in between. No idea if it’s removable as i might have to break it to find that Out!

He’s only my second Nendoroid after Levi from Shingeki no Kyojin and he’s way more complicated to dismantle to remove the plastic protective sheets.

All Nendo come with this parts list in the instructions manual and for 1068 they all look similar. At least with Levi I could tell coz the hands were visible and so by the position of the thumb I kenw what arm part went where. But 1068 is difficult because of his pose- basically he’s supposed to be putting his hands on his hips or something but the hands are hidden in the sleeves so no thumbs..

Levi also has one arm and one hand but I think this design is for the newer nendo so it took me too Long to figure out the arms parts were seperate and then figure out how to remove the sleeve etc how to reattach arms with his hair in the way without breaking everything

Tried to pose him but everything (arm/hip/fringe/ponytail) kept dropping off the main body as its pretty hard for me to attach parts With the hair in the way. Took me an entire hour to set up the figure and at least ten min to pose him
