Non-Conventional Zombie AU - BASIC LORE
In this AU, John's mental breakdown consisted of stealing a serum he wasn't supposed to know about from Jill's clinic. Inside the vials he stole is a virus that will turn people into zombies that can be controlled by a person with a separate, more powerful serum that John injected himself with.
The serum can be taken in any form; inhaled, ingested, injected, or soaked through the skin. All of the serums are relatively unstable and unfinished, but Jill and her staff were unable to stop John from taking the beta-testing versions of the viruses. They are modified from certain fungi and parasitic creatures found in nature.
Each trap turns the people inside of it into zombies, regardless of whether they survive or not. The ones that die in the trap are usually rougher and aren't as articulate as the others. It takes them time to come back to their bodies, and it takes them longer to remember how to use them.
John is slowly turning into more and more of a decrepit corpse as time goes on and is weak and unable to move much of the time. He has carers in the group and leans into their help often. Lawrence doubles as a carer and a trap-maker, though he is better at the former.
Logan, Amanda, Lawrence, and Mark are all his core group of apprentices, but he has also picked up many others.
