What I think happened in the 5 years...
Du Sik got a job after university and there he grew closer to a coworker. The coworker's wife and kid (the ones in the photo) passed away and he grew more and more depressed. Du Sik was too busy working and couldn't really take care of his friend, and he committed suicide because he couldn't handle the grief. He returned to his hometown after and that is why he has no job and just goes around helping people, making sure everyone is happy and no one is lonely.

Y'ALL Netflix changed the rating to 15+ due to mentions of suicide, I think my theory is right!!

as new eps of hometown cha come out we can see why hyejin acts the way she does and says the things she says. the only reason she craves “materialistic” things is because she was poor, when you’re poor getting things like new shoes or clothes isn’t something that happens very often (at least not without worrying about tre price and debating the purchase) hyejin worked this hard fo finally have the freedom to not worry about money so i think she deserves to buy all the things she wants. also when she told dusik they weren’t on the same level or Whatever she said, being poor literally leaves a lasting impression on you hyejin literally can’t understand why dusik would work so hard to end up doing odd jobs like this. hyejin thinks being successful is having power & money because that’s what she was told/saw as a kid. anyway i’m just rambling i have so many thoughts about them.

i really love how dusik told hyejin’s dad that they weren’t actually dating it feels like in kdramas they usually just leave that misunderstanding until everything blows up or they end up together
ALSOcan we talk about how dusik and hyejin even before confessing we’re super tactile w each other like they weren’t hesitant to touch each other esp when they were alone. like when they were “arguing” in the kitchen when dusik brought ji pd to his house and then again when they hugged after hyejin thought someone was following her. it just makes me so Ugh and the frequency of the touches increased as they started liking each other more and more. in ep 10 they touched so much and didn’t even think much of it.
wait back to the start of ep 10 dusik knew the passcode to hyejins house so that means that she didn’t change it after she moved in so it’s still his birthday
y’all this ep was so Found Family IM CRYING the way they pranked dusik and hyejin so bad 😭
