Young Pessimistic Human, Old Optimistic Elf

All too often, I see a young, optimistic human paired with an old, pessimistic elf. The human teaches the elf how to live with joy in every day, and the elf teaches the human how to keep themselves safe.

This is all fine and dandy, but I'm a little bored with it.

Why not a young, pessimistic human who's stuck with an old, optimistic elf? A human who's suffered tremendously in their short life tethered to an elf who has been more or less sheltered. Let the human teach the elf how to not die. Let the elf teach the human to find the beauty in the dark.
