Sundays were meant to be boring. Uneventful. You neither liked nor disliked them; they were simply there, suspended between Saturdays and Mondays like a piece of dust floating aimlessly through the wind. It was the one day in the week that required hardly any thought at all- just sleep in, buy groceries, and catch up on chores or your favourite shows, that was all. No surprises, no hard work. You hardly ever broke out of that routine of doing nothing, and if on the rare occasion that you did, it was usually because of some external force that was beyond your realm of control.
So when you received a strange text one particular Sunday afternoon- a simple two worded message from a number not recognized by your phone- you immediately knew that somewhere, somehow, the equilibrium of the universe had been tipped precariously, and that, in turn, was going to throw everything you had known to be true off balance.

Part 1
A gemstone is defined as a mineral crystal, typically cut and polished for purposes of fashioning jewelry or other like adornments. But for you, it was defined in terms of wealth: the rich gleam of scarlet, the heavy monetary and aesthetic weight. The ruby that lay in your palm was a classic beauty, and the sight of it, coupled with the lingering exhilaration that still roared in your ears, filled your chest like a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. “We did it. We actually did it! I can’t believe we finally have the Cobra’s Eye.”
Jungkook scoffed as he flopped down onto the couch beside you. “Of course we did. Why, were you doubting us?”
“Don’t get cocky,” chided Yongguk from the entrance of the garage. He set his tool bag on the floor and shook his head at the younger man. “The second you become overconfident, it’s game over. A big ego makes it easy to get caught.”
Jungkook waggled his brows in a provocative leer. “Maybe for you, old man. Are you forgetting about that time the cops almost barricaded your van?”
“Whose fault do you think it was that my wire system malfunctioned, punk?”
You watched the two of them argue with each other in amusement, momentarily forgetting about the eighty-five million dollar stone encased in your fingers. You were so distracted by their bickering that you didn’t notice the black sleeve and lithe digits snaking over your shoulder- at least, not until they plucked the gem neatly from your hold.
You twisted back to see Yoongi turning the Cobra’s Eye over in his hand. “Not bad,” he said after a few seconds of inspection. “Maybe not worth two weeks of planning, but Mino will be pleased.” Although his words were nonchalant, the upward curve of his lips suggested otherwise. He was a difficult book to read, that Min Yoongi, but even he was still human, and therefore not quite immune to the immense satisfaction that suffused the room.
