Element Study 1: Air And Art
Element Study 1: Air and Art
Each week I’ll be putting up a study of two elements, a natural one like air, and an abstract one like art. These are what I discussed just this morning with my delightful students! So I hope you like them.
1. Air
Air has many different uses, and I personally use it in almost everything I make. This element is one of the ones I’m most attuned to, so I do tend to favour it over other elements. Hence why I’m starting with it.
Air is an element related to communication, curiosity, freedom, and intelligence. In weapons, air can be used in ranged weapons to give projectiles perfect aim, in melee weapons to give them lightness and ease of movement, and in both of these types of weapons to boost the user. It’s also possible to use air to fly, but it takes a high level of practice to learn how.
When it comes to assistance, air is extremely helpful. It can be used to assist focus (curiosity and intelligence), break you out of a panic (freedom and breathing), track certain objects (curiosity), and deliver excellent public speaking or debate (communication).

2. Art
Art is an interesting abstract concept, and while we were exploring it we figured out its main uses were extremely similar to air. Communication, curiosity, freedom, and intelligence were very high up there.
Although, when we played around with it a little more, the art element enhanced any emotional energy we tried using. Any kind of sadness ball became strong enough to make sensitives cry upon opening them, putting art up there with water in terms of emotional strength. Although I’d argue its enhancing effects are stronger than water can produce.
Some students pointed out that art can be used in weaponry as a martial arts enhancer, because martial arts is, in fact, an art form. I’m inclined to agree with them and as such I’m including it here.

Tea Extravaganza
I have been remiss people! I haven’t talked about tea, we need tea. Everyone needs tea, the whole world needs tea!
1. The Misadventure Tea! & 2. The Calming Tea!
Both of the tea recipes below work for each other, so don’t worry about which one you like better.
After every misadventure, you’ve cooled down a bit. You’ve removed any parasites, you’ve cleansed, bandaged up your worst wounds, reset your wards, and you’re chilling in your workshop sorting through your magnificent finds.
First though, it pays to use a little tea recipe given to me a while ago which I always have my students drink, either an astral or a real world version, after each crazy escapade. It cleans the gunk off, and it restores a little energy.
The Recipe (per cup)
-Teaspoon of Diced Ginger, or 1/4th Teaspoon of Dried Ginger -One Cardamom Pods (two if dried) -A Little Bit of Cinnamon (Optional)
Put the ginger and cinnamon in a cup, add hot water, then add the cardamom pods and you’re good to go!
The Recipe (per pot/cup)
Simply put, a really good Lapsang Souchong or a nice smokey oolong can absolutely make your day a lot nicer, it always works for me, and I personally down it by the gallon after adventures.
3. The Sleeping Tea!
Sleeping teas! A lot of people, luckily not including me unless you count when there were partying idiots under my balcony for five weeks which is when I developed this tea, do.
The Recipe (per pot)
-Two Tablespoons of Rose Petals -Two Teaspoons of Passionflower
This one won’t taste as nice as the calming tea, but the passionflower works as an ingredient in it.
4. The Thunderstorm Tea!
This is a weird name for a tea I brewed by using my intuition, I wanted something special when I woke up in the middle of the night during a storm, and I actually stayed up a while longer afterwards, love storms at night.
The Recipe (per cup)
-Juice of One Lemon -Little Bit of Sugar -Mint -Rose Petals
That’s all for now folks!

Q&A For Entities
@cutesthoot Brought up some good points so I’m answering the questions here!
1. Fighting and Imagination
This was originally made as a reaction to people running into spirits during bilocation. So the fighting is specifically fighting using your energy/energy body/bilocation mini-you. Throwing a fit with your physical body may make the spirit leave if it’s just hanging around, but it probably won’t do anything in the end.
To see the thing you’d probably need to sense its location using energy, or if you’re bilocating then just use your astral senses to your advantage.
If it’s really leaving then you’ll know because of these reasons: 1. No attack is happening to you. 2. The area’s energy has changed. 3. It’s really hard to project so hard an attack appears not to be happening, so the chances are if you can’t feel anything then it’s gone,

2. Extreme Caution
Extreme caution basically means treat the entity like you’ve just met one of the traditional British fae. Be respectful, don’t agree to do anything, don’t give it any power over you, make sure every move you make is tactical. Keep an escape plan ready.
Make sure you have the upper hand.

3. Legitimate Concern or Drama
Honestly it doesn’t quite matter if it’s a legitimate concern or not. The diplomacy will often cover that as asking the entity to leave weeds out benevolent from malevolent better than most other methods.
If you really want to learn more about entities and work with them, I’d suggest finding an actual energy worker. I’m not that experienced with any entities other than ones that are planning to hurt people, so I got a lot of this information from a friend who I’m pretty sure isn’t on tumblr.
For Cutesthoot, I’d be super happy to have you on my main teaching server, The Salem Coven. Run by my good friend @brookiethewitch I hope to see you there!

Elly’s Research Log
This is the first instalment in what will end up being a very long series of research log pages. Here I’m mainly going to be documenting my attempts at creating different and interesting energy items, as well as interesting things I find in books around the astral. Maybe some things I find around too, here’s stuff to start off with.
The first part of each check is directly transcribed from my notes, so bear with me.
1. Pure Love
-Attempted to create the core of the energy using musical resonance, sadly this failed, couldn’t isolate the emotion.
-Attempted to create the core using my own feelings of love, unsuccessful, turns out I’m bad at using my own emotions.
-Tried to find a plane of pure love, failed, found a happiness realm instead. Happiness isn’t hard to make.
As you can see nothing is working, leading me to try and figure out something else to do, I made an idea, needs to be tested.
Combine the energies of two people that are in true love, then pull out the parts of the love that overlap. This should make a ball of extremely unstable emotion which I can then coat in order and chaos to make a ball of pure love.
2. Old Coins
-Found another coin, another of the round ones with a square cutout and different dot patterns.
-Magical signature leads in circles, need to figure out how to kickstart.
-Not electricity, maybe metal? Can’t use metal very easily, need to get an assistant.
-The chicken likes to chew on it.
3. Pure Emotion Realms
The book on realm physics is a bit wild, but the more interesting parts are the effects of reality bending areas of sentient space known as Pure Emotion Realms. There’s not a lot of information in other books, and this one is the personal guide of an explorer like me. I needed the entry on the Fear Realms the other day, but that’s another story.
Pure emotion realms are difficult to find and even more difficult to get out of, they try to keep you there, kill you there, or send you mad there. Honestly it could be malevolent or benevolent or even neutral intentions, but they do want to do something to you, and it often happens in a heavy handed way.
A small excerpt from what I could translate: “...realms appear more often if you know where to look for them. It’s best (good? happiest?) not to look for them, they’re not good to be in.”
Astral Travel Guide
The rules of astral travel differ from person to person, but here are the ones which’ve saved my life over and over again.
1. Trust Nothing
It’s not that everything’s out to get you, it’s that the entities that are are clever. Demons, dragons, angels, bird people, astral winds, other witches, disguised entities, astral hitchhikers, parasites, fake gods. So many things could attack you even in places that are safe. So keep your wits about you and keep your guard up, think of it as travelling through a jungle, like the Amazon. It’s beautiful and filled with wonder but there are also all manner of dangerous things.

2. Use Your Best Senses
Your astral senses, although the majority work the same as your physical ones, usually have very different usefulness. Someone who can see perfectly well normally may have scratched or useless sight in the astral. The important thing to do when it comes to this is to use the senses that do work instead. Time spent on trying to make some astral senses useful is time not spent on practicing your best senses. Anything can be made useful, from taste and smell to emotions and proprioception. You just need to figure out a way to use it.

3. Always Be Armed
The astral is a beautiful place, but not everywhere is safe. So it pays to be armed somehow. Energy constructs and spirit charms are usually really good methods of protection, but a lot of work in energy is required before you can start energy constructs and spirit charms only work if you have the required items, such as bones of whatever spirit you want to summon. Energy constructs can be designed for extreme power, and spirits can protect you without you needing to control them. Another option is to alter your body within the astral to be a better fighter, but this is a lot more difficult and potentially dangerous, so it’s best to start with energy and spirits. Also it pays to have shields up to keep out unwanted energy and parasites.

4. Always Have An Escape Plan
Whether it’s full dive or bilocation, it’s always a good idea to have an escape plan. If something big shows up and you’re not able to handle it, either go back to your body or somewhere safe, but make sure you absolutely can reach whenever you want in an efficient and safe manner. Be it portals, constructs, or even magic ice skates. Make sure you can get out fast.

5. Have A Friend
Having a friend with you can make you safer, and sometimes is just more enjoyable. I’m usually a rather solitary traveller but for those who aren’t used to having to fight, or just want to have some very good times with a friend. Then it’s a good idea.
