Soultember Prompt 1: Red String Of Fate

Soultember Prompt 1: Red String of Fate

Fandom : The Dragon Prince

Waring: Canon Character Death

Summary: Harrow didn't need Viren to tell him his wife had been killed by Thunder, he already knew she was gone.

Queen Sairi was the love of King Harrow's life. They were bound together by fate. When they walked, hand in hand, a red string hung down slightly from their pinky fingers. No matter how difficult life was they knew they had each other.

When Viren told Harrow that there was a way to save the people of Duren and Katolis from the death that would come with the horrible winter, he felt it was the only solution. Maybe it was.

Despite Sarai's protest, a few soldiers and the leaders of the two kingdoms left to retrieve the heart of the titan.

Harrow was unsure when the fight began if they would emerge victorious. When the titan fell everything was worth it. The uninjured assessed the injured and they were ready to go.

It was a selfless mission. But sacrifices must be made to save a kingdom. A few people for tens of thousands seemed only far.

Then he appeared. The king of the dragons was angry. Why were humans on his side of the border? What did they need and what did they destroy?

When the queens of Duren fell, it felt like the whole world shook for just a moment. Then Viren tried to by them time. The head mage was a strong man but without him the sacrifice of the queens was for nothing.

Sarai was a strong women. There was no doubt in Harrow's mind that she would return to him. The string that held them together would shorten as they took hands once more. They would return home and would dance in their room, watching the string as they tried to tangle it around themselves, just to see if they could.

Harrow wanted her ride away. He looked at the tine red line that never let them play a fair game or hide and seek and smiled.

As the soldiers approached their side of the border the king felt his finger start to burn.

    Snap.

Harrow felt a sharp pain in his pinky finger. The long red string that once connected him to his Queen had broken.

This couldn't be right. Any moment now Sarai would come back up the hill, back to him. She had to. Harrow wasn't sure he could do this without her. He wasn't sure how he'd live on or how he'd explain to his sons what happened to their mother.

The string tied itself into a neat bow, the excess hanging maybe an inch off of his finger. Harrow's heart felt like it stopped beating. Sarai was gone, his love was gone.

Viren walked up the hill, confirming the news. Three mothers had died that day. The mage looked at Harrow's hand, a red string now visible, "I'm so sorry."

Harrow said nothing. Tears fell silently down his face. They fell to the ground as others went to retrieve the three bodies from the field.

He fidgeted with the short tail of the string unconsciously as the three women were brought up the hill. The walk home felt shorter and longer than it had felt before. Harrow wouldn't remember most of it.

It was fate for the two to fall in love. Who knew fate could be so cruel.

AI-less Whumptober Day 8: Panic Attack

Fandom: Miraculous Ladybug

Summary: After a bad day, Gabriel loses his temper and throws a vase at Adrien. Adrien realizes what happened the next day at school and struggles to stay calm.

Adrien couldn't focus. Even though he always liked history, not even that could keep him distracted. He started at the board but took no notes and didn't listen to the teacher.

The night before had been stressful and not just because of the akuma attack. It was what came after that made things so much worse.

The akuma had been simple. With the power to create monsters out of light, the victim had blinded the heroes for a while before they found away around it. The attack had started right before dinner and ended about 1am.

Even simple things can take a while to fix. Ladybug and Cat Noir said their goodbyes and both headed home.

When Adrien had arrived home he heard crashing from downstairs. Despite Plagg telling him not to check it out, he walked down the stairs. His footsteps were silent against the ground as he made his way to the ground floor.

There was another crash. The child made his way to the source of the noise and gently opened the door to his fathers study. Gabriel held a smaller vase he had recently gotten because he had 'knocked over' the old one.

    "Dad?" Adrian asked softly.

Gabriel sharply turned to look at him. Before Adrien could react there was a vase being hurdled in his direction. He tried to move but ended up being hit in the edge of his shoulder. The glass broke against the wall as the man shouted at him to get out.

Adrian grabbed his shoulder and the door handle with his other hand. He ran out of the room, trying not to slam the door. He heard Gabriel call for him but he didn't care.

When he got back to his room he looked at Plagg, "you were right."

The bell broke Adrian's thought process for a moment. He looked at his non-existent notes and sighed. Placing the notebook back in his bag he looked at the time. It was almost the end of the day. He had one more class.

As Adrian put his bag in his shoulder he winced. Wrong shoulder. He moved it to his other arm and got ready to leave the class. Nino stopped him, "you okay?"

"Oh yeah! I'm fine!" Adrien smiled.

    "Okay." Nino sounded unsure.

Adrien made his way to his next class. He sat down and pulled out his notebook. The room was almost silent. There was nothing to protect him from his mind, nothing to fill the void.

After the boy had entered the room, he pulled off his shirt to see the damage. He was much calmer than he felt he should have been.

"What happened?" Plagg asked, going to grab some bandages from Adrian's bathroom.

"It was my father. He was destroying stuff in his study." He took the bandages out of Plagg's little hands and went to the bathroom to grab a disinfectant.

"Did he throw something at you or something?" Plagg followed him.

"Yeah, the new vase he got." He grabbed the spray from the cabinet and opened the cap. He sprayed it on his skin and placed a few bandaids on. He threw away the trash and changed into his pajamas.

    "Are you okay?" Plagg asked.

"Yeah, just surprised." He laid down and fell asleep.

Adrian wasn't sure why he had been so calm the night before. It didn't make sense. Why did this have to bother him now? He looked at the paper that had been placed in front of him. Then back at the time.

Thirty minutes stood between now and when he would be going home. Adrian didn't want to go home. How would his father act? Would he apologize? Would he tell him to be quiet about it? Would he even say anything?

As the questions ran though his mind his breathing started to speed up. He couldn't think straight. Adrian looked down at his paper and noticed he couldn't see straight.

Plagg leaned against him, trying to calm him down.

Adrian felt like he couldn't breathe, the questions still circulating in his mind . Would this happen again? What would have happened if he hadn't gone downstairs, hadn't left the room, hadn't moved?

Tears fell from his eyes as his fellow students realized something was wrong. His breathing was out of control now. He brought one hand up to his chest. The teacher got on the phone and called the nurse.

Alya who had been sitting behind him jumped off of her chair and came to his side. "Adrian? Are you okay?"

The answer felt obvious, still he tried to shake his head yes.

"Breath" she tried to comfort him by placing a careful hand on his shoulder but instead he flinched, shrinking away from her touch.

"Did that hurt?" She asked, the concern in her voice growing more and more evident.

Adrien nodded. The teacher led them to the hallway where Alya reassured him that she could take care of him.

They stayed in the hallway for a while. Adrian pressed his back to the wall as he shook. He listened to Alya talk to him but couldn't understand her.

    "What's going on Adrian?"

"I don't, want to go" his breath caught in his throat and he coughed. He felt sick. "home."

    "What happened?"

"It's fine-" he leaned into her, grabbing her shoulders to stabilize himself. "Really, it's fine."

"No, it's not fine. Alya rubbed her hand over his back, trying to calm him down. She let him stay there and cry for a while.

As his breathing began to even out, he moved to look at her. She looked so, scared. "Are you okay?" He asked, voice still shaking and tears still falling.

"Yeah I'm okay. I'm just worried about you."

"I'm fine, a few things just piled up, that's all." He wiped the tears off his face. Alya handed him a tissue which he took. The two stood.

Alya held her arms out for a hug. Adrien quickly expected it and they stayed there until the bell rang. She went into the class and grabbed their bags. She handed him his and walked him to the outside of the school building.

"Are you going to be okay?" She asked.

Adrien paused before answering. "Yeah, I'll be fine. Thank you."

    "You sure?"

    "Yeah."

"Call me if you need anything?"

"Okay." Adrian walked towards the car. He sighed as he got in. Plagg hung close to him, trying to help keep him grounded. The boy stared out the window, unsure of what to do or what was next. At least he had Plagg.

AI-less Whumptober Day 2: Exhausted

Fandom: The Dragon Prince

Summary: Ezren and Callum are exhausted.

'King Ezren do this, King Ezren do that.' Ezren was starting to get tired of it all. He loved helping the kingdom and it's people but he was only an child. A child going to bed long after his bed time.

The child walked into the thrown room. It had only been a few hours since he had last been there. Opilei welcomed him as he sleepily sat down on the throne.

Ezren was tired. There was so much to do and so little time. He still didn't understand everything he needed to do and it had been two years since he'd become king.

It had been two years since he had been able to really sleep. He never really felt like a kid anymore. Ezren felt more like a young adult. Between being a piece keeper, a king, and a therapist l; trying his best to fix his family's problems, he really needed a break.

"King Ezren, it's time for your meeting with Queen Janai" Opeli spoke.

The child nodded. Janai had made the decision to come to Katolis even though Ezren had offered to go to her kingdom instead. He figured Amaya had wanted to come visit so the two came instead.

Peace was setting. It was hard work, but good. After his meeting with Queen Janai he had paperwork to do then he needed to approve of a few things to do with the schools of the kingdom. After that was a few royal errands, then  lunch with Callum.

Callum was the only one who really understood the struggles that Ezren was going through. He was tired too. They helped each other and held each other close.

After everything they really only had each other. The only blood family they had was each other and Amaya and Amaya's life was no longer in Katolis.

'She must be tired too' Ezren thought. Peace isn't easy to keep. Amaya and Janai were making history just by being together.

Queen Janai walked in. General Amaya and Commander Gren followed. Some guards stopped outside. The meeting lasted an hour. They talked about Katolis's aid in rebuilding and about defence.

At lunch Ezren practically collapsed into Callum's arms. He was exhausted and overwhelmed. "It's a lot, Callum."

"I know Ez. It's going to be okay."

And Callum held him. He held him until he fell asleep. He rocked him back and forth gently in the chair they rested in. They sat outside at one of Ezren's favorite restaurants, clouds coming in.

They were exhausted. A teenager and a tween held two of the top ranks of a kingdom. The kingdom that their father used to lead.

Callum stopped rocking. He just held him tight, knowing that this would only help for a while. Holding him here, letting his rest, would set him back on everything he needed to do. But would he do it right being so tired? The mage didn't know.

There was only so much that they could do now. Right now, with the coming rain, Callum wouldn't let go. He would wait for Ezren to wake up and pray that he felt better. Maybe, just maybe he could go back to being exhausted tomorrow.

Soultember Prompt 2: Soul Freckles

Fandom: The Dragon Prince

Ship: Rayllum

When kids are young, seeing shapes in freckles is playful. However when the kids started to get older, they began to be told that somewhere written on their bodies by these little specks of color, was a hint to who their soulmate was.

Rayla was always confused about the freckles on her collarbone. She knew that they would lead her to her soulmate but she couldn't figure out what they meant. They made two backwards Cs with a line at the bottom.

Callum never understood his freckles. They resembled a full moon. He used to think it was just a circle until he traced the dotted lines inside of it.  The pattern rested on his collarbone. He wished to know who this mysterious stranger was who he was bound to by fate itself.

The moon shape always worried Sairi and Harrow. They tried to not think too hard about it or to let their worry get in the way of Callum's excitement and detective work.

Callum never understood their anxiety, why would his soulmate make them so, scared? Worried didn't quite seem right.

As time passed on, Rayla and Callum grew up. Callum became a big brother and lost his mother. He started training with Soren and drew as much as he could.

Rayla trained to be an assassin with Runnian. She lost her parents to the battle at the Strom Spire, and now was on a mission to kill the king of Katolis.

Life takes you places you don't expect. A mission of death led to Rayla and Callum meeting. It led to a beautiful friendship and a prettier romance. As soon as the mage used Aspiro, Rayla understood what the dots on her collarbone meant. The idiot that she was traveling to Xadia with, was her idiot.

Callum took a little more time to understand. The hints were supposed to be small. There was a curl irony to meet your forever love on the day you lose someone so important to you.

"So, did you ever make out your soulmate mark?" Rayla asked.

"I think so. My mom and stepdad used to be really worried about it, but I think they would like her." Callum blushed, "How about you?"

"I think so." She smiled, "so what is it?"

"It's a full moon." He pulled his shirt down to show Rayla. "What's yours?"

"It's a spell." Mimicking Callum, she pulled her collar down to reveal her freckles.

    "Hey! That's Aspiro!"

Rayla giggled, "yeah, It is." The two were silent for a moment. "we should get going, gotta get Zym home."

    "Yeah."

Whumptober Day 2: "They Don't Care About You."

Fandom: Nimona

Summary: A story from when Ballister was younger. Todd never was nice to him, even when they were young.

Waring: Some violence

Ballister didn't want to be here. He didn't want Todd to be looking over him. He felt small even if he was only a bit shorter than him. He held him to the wall, not letting him do so much as move.

Boldheart looked past Todd to his fellow knights in training. They had never helped him before so he didn't really know why he tried.

Sureblade grabbed Ballister's face and forced him to look at him, "they won't help you."

Hands wrapped around the man's throat, "They don't care about you."

Pulling his arms up, Bal clawed at Todd's hands. He scratched himself but the marks on Todd's hands were worse.

The world started to feel strange. He eyed the other who had all gone back to what they had been doing but faster.

That's when he realized, they truly didn't care about him. Here he was being choked out and they would rather finish what they're doing then help. They would rather let him suffer then do anything at all.

They other trainees sure but what about Ambrosius? What about him? And the Director? Did she care? The queen? The one who believed in him from the beginning, the one who gave him a chance?

Did they pity him? Did they care? What would he do if they didn't? What if he was alone after all? What if Todd was right?

The world started to fade. Ballister tried kicking at Todd but nothing worked. As his vision blurred he stopped fighting so hard.

After a moment Todd tossed him to the ground. Leaving him unconscious on the dirty floor.

When Ballister awoke on the floor, alone, he didn't bother getting up yet. He lied on the floor knowing he needed to get up anyway. He stood and looked at the wall then to the rest of the room.

Meeting his eyes in the mirror felt cold and lonely. But he was lonely. Ballister walked over to the mirror and punched the glass. Then, with a bloody hand he walked towards the door.

No one had come to look for him. Maybe Todd was right he thought, maybe no one cared about him.

Whumptober Day 7: Rodio Silent/"Can You Hear Me?"

Fandom: Spider-verse

Warning: In the tags for story reasons

Summary: Jefferson gave Spider-Man a radio in case he might need to reach out, hoping he never had to. Miles was glad he had it.

When Jefferson learned that Spiderman was a young teenager he decided to give him a radio. He wanted to make sure that he was safe. If he needed nothing or god forbid the boy ended up injured while fighting a villain, it seemed to bring both of them comfort that knowing he could reach out.

It was a beautiful day. There wasn't a cloud in the sky. The sun shined over the city. It was reality calm until a villain decided to break that fragile peace.

Miles had been taking a science test when his teacher got a phone call. He stealthy took his phone out and looked at the news. It was time for him to go.

He walked up to his teacher's desk and asked to use the bathroom. She nodded. As he got close to the window in the boy's bathroom he heard the announcement that the school was going into lockdown due to a villain attack.

Spider-Man jumped from the window and headed to the scene. He webbed his radio to his leg. It was smaller than average policy radios, maybe the size of a child's walky talky. It helped Miles to know that if he really needed it he could reach out to someone.

The villain of the week called himself 'Pit Viper'. He was dressed in a green suit that had a scale pattern everywhere. His hair was black and his eyes seemed to be some shade of blue. He wore a black face mask that went down to his neck. He had a sword and a holster for a dagger.

"Plan to get stabby?" Spiderman asked when he arrived .

When the fight started, everything seemed fine. Every fight had its dangers. That was something Miles had expected already. As soon as he pulled the sword out of Viper's hand he felt that he had made a mistake.

As the clouds started to take over the sky, it started to seem like Spiderman would lose. But every time he got knocked down, he got back up.

Pit Viper unsheathed his dagger. He pulled a small vile from his pocket and slid the bottom of the knife open. He put the mystery vile in the handle. He closed it and smiled.

"Whatcha got there?" Miles said as he went to attack once again.

"You'll find out soon enough." Not long after, Miles got struck by the knife. It wasn't a large wound, just a small gash on his arm. Sure it hurt but it wasn't anything that would stop him.

Then he started to feel nauseous. As he webbed down the villain, the man started to laugh violently. "You might have taken me down, but it seems that you will fall tonight."

Spiderman grabbed his radio and informed the police that he had caught the villain. He stumbled off towards school. He didn't make it that far before he landed in an alley.

Miles fought to get his mask off before he threw up. He put one hand on the brick wall in front of him and the other on his stomach. His breathing sped up as he walked a little further in the alley, away from the sight of the city. He threw up again and slid down the wall, tearing his suit and skin.

The world felt like it was spinning. Miles fought through the fog and grabbed for his radio. His body felt like it was on fire and his head was heavy. He pulled the radio to his mouth and spoke into it. "Mr. Morales, are you there?" He asked.

"What can I do for you Spiderman?" He asked.

"I think-" Miles rested his head on the wall behind him. "I think I'm dying."

Jefferson looked over at his partner. "Where are you son?" Concern laced his words.

The hero stuttered out the street number.

"We're nearby" his partner said. "He's young, maybe you can keep him calm?"

Jefferson called for an ambulance over the radio then spoke to Spiderman again. "Help is on the way. I'm on the way. Just hold."

"I'll try" Miles said, shacking. He listened to his father talk to him and answered the best he could.

    "What happened?"

"Viper." He shuttered and tried to pull his legs to his chest.

"How are you feeling? What's happening?"

    "Like shit."

    "Language."

"Sorry." Miles's voice shook and it sounded like he was on the verge of tears.

"It's okay. Just hang in there." Jefferson sighed. He put his head in his hand.

"I'm scared" he whispered. He leaned over to his side and threw up again. Tears started to fall from his eyes. He was in pain.

    "It's going to be okay."

The world started to get blurry. "I'm sorry" he choked out. He threw up again. Miles tried to stand. He moved slightly to the side. His knees fell and he couldn't support his hands anymore.

"You don't need to apologize. Do you know what Viper did?" There was no response. "Spiderman?"

Fear struck into Jefferson's heart. He couldn't shake the feeling that everything was going to change. "Spiderman are you there?"

The radio rested in Miles's lap. He listened to his father talk but couldn't do anything to respond.

"Can you hear me?" Panic slipped into his voice like hot tea slides down your throat. "Son, can you hear me?"

Miles fought to answer. Yet the radio remained silent. He couldn't force himself to get up this time.

"Spiderman, we'll be there soon. Just hang on." The silents made the air thick and time slow down. It felt like he was moving though quicksand. Jefferson wasn't sure why he felt the way he did. He worked closely with the hero but it almost felt like his own family was in danger.

    Silence fell over the car.

Miles thought he could hear sirens. He felt like he couldn't breathe. The sounds of the city started to disappear, the wall in front of him looked foggy, and his body felt strange.

As soon as the car stopped Jefferson was out on the sidewalk. The ambulance hadn't arrived yet. "Wait here" he yelled to his partner.

As the man entered the alley he could smell the horrible smell of vomit. He walked passed it and found the hero leaned against the wall. He ran over to him.

"Can you hear me?" Jefferson looked at the hero's face. "Miles" he said breathlessly.

Miles tried to give him a smile.

"It's going to be okay Miles."

The teen started to fade in and out of consciousness. He thought about his life for a moment.

"Stay with me Miles!" He felt his father's hand cuff his face gently. "Miles? Can you hear me? Please say something!" He felt the hand move and an arm around his body. He listened to his father cry. "Please."

"You did good kid. Come on, your uncle wants to see you." Miles looked up to see Peter Parker looking at him. Not Peter B Parker but Peter Parker.

    "Wait but-"

    "They'll be okay."

    "Okay."
