Since you're the god of BL, who are your top 3 mangakas and your top 10 BL manga (cause top 3 is just too restrictive); for (i) ongoing and (ii) completed stories?

Thank you for being a generous soul and allowing me to name 10 top mangas each from ongoing and completed! But I still had to trim the list so much and it killed my heart every time I had to pick one favourite over the other. But here it is finally, my top mangas in no particular order:

These mangas got a sequel so technically they're still ongoing but since only 1 or 2 chapters of the new volume are out at the moment and I'm waiting to see where the story goes, I just put the first volumes in a different category.

As for my favourite mangakas, again this was a very difficult choice for me! Gosh, there's so many mangakas whose works I absolutely adore: Zaria, Scarlet Beriko, Suzumaru Minta, Yusen Atsuko, Ogawa Chise, Nekota Yonezou, Kanda Neko etc. but since I can only name TOP 3: 

Yamamoto Kotetsuko, Ichikawa Kei and Ogeretsu Tanaka. 

If you'd asked me this question last year, I'd have definitely mentioned Yoneda Kou. But lately, I'm not happy with her writing choices in Saezuru (making Yashiro "forget" Doumeki, having them go their separate ways) and Rainy Days, Yesterday, the only other new manga she's done in years, was not up to scratch imo.

Needless to say, this list is very subjective and based on my tastes & preferences alone. Did I mention any of your favourites? Is there any manga or artist that you’d strongly recommend me to try?

So I just finished watching the first tinker bell movie and I was wondering....

Why do the female fairies have boobs? Or the fairy race have gender?

Bc Faries are born and made asexually (the first laugh of a baby) and that seems to be the only way that a fairy is born. So why do they have gender or the parts that make or feed young if the faries are born already into their adult or at the very least a teen lives.

So , I reading this book for English and every time I look at it, I just wanna die. You will too once I tell you why this book it just tvjhbngfjgdthfj. (The book is called ‘48 Shades of Brown’ and it’s by Nick Earls, pub. 1999)

Reason 1. There are no speech marks (“” these boys). They are nowhere to be seen. It would be fine if I could differentiate between character by the simple ‘I said’ or ‘she/he said’ or “character name’ said’ but no there are only italics and no italics. The italics and no italics would be fine if there were only two characters at any given time but the 3 pages I have just read had 4 character talking constantly. Another thing that makes it hard to read the speech is that sometimes the author doesn’t even do paragraph breaks for speech so you need to go back a few times.

Reason 2. The plot is boring. The plot is basically Dan (MC) gets sent to live with his aunt and her roommate while his parents are in a European country, also he’s in year 12 (final year of high school). This plot would be fine if it wasn’t so boring, like I’ve read 2 and a half chapters of I think 16 and all that’s happened is that we find out Dan and his friend are perverts, Jacq (aunt) is in a band and is ‘cool’ and Naomi (roommate) and dumb and has bad choice in men. The only tension point is that Dan is worried about calculus. The reason as to why the book is so boring is that the author was about 40 at the time of writing the novel and his inspiration was that teens don’t and a realistic character to relate to. I think this deletes the purpose as people can relate to Dan too much which is the opposite of why people read books, most people read books to get away from reality not go back but from someone else’s POV.

Reason 3. Dan isn’t likeable. Dan is the most boring character to exist. He reads more like a 12 year old rather than an 18 year old. This boy goes off on long tangents about scenery and what people look like all the while being hypocritical towards his mother who does the same thing. He gets mad at his mum for calling him the day after he arrives to check on him. Dan is also a big pervert. Within the first 4 pages of the book we have him talking about what a privilege it is to hold a girls hair back and time just focusing on that (he does this because he himself was feeling nauseous). The then later that day listen to Naomi and her boyfriend have sex and then in chapter 2 he says listening to her undress was the best part of his day.

So these are the 3 main reasons as to why I hate this book. I’m sure there are other reasons that I can’t remember off the top of my head.

here have 10 pieces of writing advice that have stuck with me over the years

every character’s first line should be an introduction to who they are as a person

even if you only wrote one sentence on a really bad day, that’s still one sentence more than you had yesterday

exercise restraint when using swear words and extra punctuation in order for them to pack a punch when you do use them

if your characters have to kiss to show they’re in love, then they’re not in love

make every scene interesting (or make every scene your favorite scene), otherwise your readers will be just as bored as you

if you’re stuck on a scene, delete the last line you wrote and go in a different direction, or leave in brackets as placeholders

don’t compare your first draft to published books that could be anywhere from 3rd to 103rd drafts

i promise you the story you want to tell can fit into 100k words or less

sometimes the book isn’t working because it’s not ready to be written or you’re not ready to write it yet; let it marinate for a bit so the idea can develop as you become a better writer

a story written in chronological order takes a lot more discipline and is usually easier to understand than a story written with flashbacks

When I was young (I don’t quite remember how old I was) but I over heard my mum talking about getting an iPod and I didn’t know what that was so I cried myself to sleep that night bc I though that doctors were going to take my mum’s eye

My mum also recently told me that when I was in second grade and we were doing those reading tests that we had to read to the teacher. I apparently did not read it correctly but I read the sentences out of order and kept skipping paragraphs but when I was questioned about the text I answered perfectly

I was in my math exam recently and I kept typing the wrong thing into my calculator (trigonometry so the sin/cos/tan showing error) and I was there for 20mins before I realised my mistake

Did you ask him if he was alright? Should you just say hi? What if he doesn’t want to talk to you? Or what if he’s just waiting for you to speak to him?

“Steve.” You said quietly without thought. Steve lifted his head up and looked at you, a little surprised that you had spoken to him first.

“A-are you alright?” You asked and leaned forward slightly to make sure he could hear you despite how quiet you were.

• Rise (AU where Severus becomes the Hogwarts Champion for the Triwizard Tournament and doesn’t know what to do about it, but Lily’s his best friend again and James Potter’s actually being nice to him, so maybe this could work out? Amazing fic, and realistically depicted progression of relationships, slow burn, all that good stuff)

• The Tale of Severus Prince (AU where our boy Severus finally gets to grow up in a loving household with his grandparents, makes friends, and falls in love with James Potter :3)

• Gold and Silver Bound (very in-character, hilarious, I love this fic so much :3)

• Pretending (*sobs* tons of misunderstandings, miscommunication, mixed feelings, and seemingly unrequited love, sad ending)

• By Chance Checkmate (very in-character, sweet, a bit angsty in the middle, Lily as #1 Jeverus fangirl and Remus as #1 wingman, Sirius as Cockblock Extraordinaire, happy ending)

Kirishima Eijirou is a young college drop-out trying to live his life  and get by. That’s all he’s trying to do. But when his friends coerce him into sitting in on an Ouija session–in his own apartment no less–things start to get a little strange. It starts off small: banging from the empty apartment above them, clattering in the closet, things showing up in places they weren’t left. Then things get a little more intense. Eventually, Eijirou realizes that when his friends messed with the board, they had brought something through–and worse, as he does his research he realizes they never said ‘Goodbye.’

 The Bakusquad mess with an Ouija board without knowing what they’re doing, and whatever–or whoever–they accidentally summon is there to stay.
