This was originally a doodle I did during church with no pose reference (which, I’d like to add, I’m very proud of because it’s a weird perspective and it’s two people interacting and it actually turned out alright for once) and decided I really liked it, so I colored it.

And then proceeded to realize it reminded me a lot of this drawing I did two years ago, and it made me happy cuz I feel like I’ve actually improved which is nice.

Anyway. Yeah. My scrunklies which I love very much. Working on filling the rest of the page they’re on now.

So today, after having been horsing around with my brother; being the absolute feral little gremlin that I am, I scuttled off and he called after me “Don’t you come stick your face in my window-” (there are windows inside the house between his bedroom and the living room ‘cause it used to be a porch) So naturally, I decided to come stick my face in his window, but with my techno mask on for extra shock factor, y’know? Except I thought he meant the outside ones. I didn’t feel like putting real clothes on (I was in a sports bra and pajama shorts), so I went out wrapped in a blanket- all you could see was the mask and my feet.

I start walking up the side of the house to get to his room, and this pickup slows down in front of our yard. There is no other reason I can think that they would have slowed down other than them having seen me- and I was in plain view from the road. And I’m just highly amused. That I probably just significantly confused one of our neighbors. And that this is what they would have seen.

Relative size reference and anatomical ramblings below cut.

Here’s a vague size comparison thing for all of them. And a human for perspective

I really, desperately want to make an illustrated guide to my merfolk lore, because it’s extensive and I’m really proud of it. But that sounds slightly overwhelming, so idk, but here are some random scraps that pertain to these four. My fish mers aren’t allowed to have hair; they have a variety of different fins on their head to mimic it instead. Oviparous fish (e.g. remora) lay their eggs and their mer counterparts do likewise, and therefore don’t have nipples and/or breasts. Eggs of ovoviviparous fish (e.g. manta ray) hatch shortly before giving birth and do not consume anything resembling milk, so their mer counterparts do not have nipples and/or breasts. Viviparous fish (e.g. lemon shark) essentially nurse when in the womb, so their mer counterparts nurse after having given birth and have nipples and/or breasts. Mammals (e.g. monk seal) are self explanatory.

Also most animals hatch or are born with navels, because even in eggs, there’s a cord from the embryo to the yolk sack. Oviparous and ovoviviparous creatures just tend to be better at healing the scar. However, I’ve decided that mers are not as good at healing the scar, and thus, have bellybuttons.
