Directed by a man named Václav Mergl, The Crabs (original title: Krabi) is apparently a 1976 short film allegory about the spiral-to-self-destruction risk of advancing weaponry.

The crabs are actually self-replicating machines created by the scientist, programmed to seek out metal, devour it, and then use it to construct more complicated and aggressive versions of themselves. This becomes a representation of both the nature of the arms race (extremely relevant to the time period when this was released) and species’ evolution by survival of the fittest.

I would highly recommend checking it out, the entire short is only about 11 minutes long and pretty charming :)
